As for POWELL....well, he's being Powell. Most likely, McStain put him up to writing that moronic letter.Powell is distracting the press from his involvement in the Plame outing. (the letter worked just fine.)

Insane yes, but first and foremost, a politician who cares about nothing but his own ambition.

Is the Rose Garden considered a formal setting for a news conference? I'm trying to think of the annoucements that have occurred there.

I think McCain's potential candidacy for president is the reason for his behavior.I'll choke to death on my own vomit before I'd vote for McCain. Never, ever will he get my vote for anything. I don't care who's running against him and his VP Bin Ladin.

If you think that AQ and other terrorist organizations will leave the US alone if we convert to Islam then vote Democrat. if you believe that negotiation is the best approach with serial killers, then vote for your favorite local democrat candidate

I just hope he has some hard news, rather than this internal clash with the Senate Armed Services bunch. Usually a press conference is used to push some position or agenda. Hard news from the Pres usually comes in the form of of a statement from the oval office. So I'm not expecting much.
To: RobFromGa
Bottom line it for me if you can: what did the Senate do yesterday?

Amen...go get 'em. We have politicians vascillating in the face of a determined, mortal enemey to try and win some perceived political points for an election. Lots of 'em on the Dem side, too many on the RNC side too. It is shameful and disgusting...and will lead to much, much worse death and destruction at the hands of those same enemies IMHO.

Or he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
I was going to say that! Well, my counter is, that he got hurt at work, but he's not worried, because he has great insurance.
Q: What's that, Mr. President?

I did find this Google reference to the Rose Garden (if that is in fact where the press conf. will be), although I was unable to click through to the link cited:

I am so sick and tired of John McCain. This idiot stick doesn't even understand the fundamental issues associated with the Geneva Convention discussion today.
1. The terrorists are not signatories
2. The terrorists do not abide by the Geneva Convention themselves
..a. They do not wear uniforms
..b. They target civilians
..c. They torture captive soldiers and civilians
..d. They behead their captive soldiers
..e. They behead their captive civilians
..f. They specifically target women and children
Those who adhere to the Geneva Convention are easier to apprehend or defend against. It is the special status of the terrorist that makes it so important to apprehend them.
If given regular trials, the terrorist will be given access to top level documents and privileged information. This they can pass on to other terrorists through their attorneys, family members or friends.
Should we extend Geneva Convention treatment to people who blow up market places? Should we provide cover to people who will hijack airliners and fly them into targets at will? Should we give any consideration at all to those who would target any person on the planet including our President or other political leaders?
John McCain, you are aiding the enemy. You are an absolute fool. You're an embarrassment to anyone you associate yourself with, including our government.
Sit down and shut the hell up!
You did not win the Presidency. The American public saw right through you. Now quit siding with the enemies of our nation.

Maybe he's going to explain why the US marshals office wasted resources by helping Mexico arrest Dog the bounty hunter.
It's really bad when Mexico says "jump" and all our justice dept. says is "How high?"
