NEW YORK The gap has narrowed to a slim 3-percentage point advantage for Democrats over Republicans in the latest FOX News likely voter poll, though many voters say they are still deciding which candidate to support in the upcoming Congressional elections. Iraq is mentioned at least twice as often as any other topic as the most important issue in voting this fall. While there are sharp divisions on Iraq, a slim majority says they support the war. In polling conducted in the days after the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and after a nationally televised presidential address to commemorate the anniversary, President Bushs job rating is up slightly: 40 percent of voters say they approve, up from 38 percent two weeks ago and 36 percent at the beginning of August. The partisan division continues to be extreme, with 82 percent of Republicans saying they approve of the presidents job performance compared to just 12 percent of Democrats. A 53 percent majority of voters says President Bush is honest and trustworthy, the same number as when the question was last asked in May 2004.

Yep. Watch the talking heads try to spin this one! Rasmussen had a poll saying just about the same thing, but he mentioned that values voters are cocked and ready to hit the polls. I still believe that the social conservatives will propel the party to victory in November. My prediction: GOP +2 Senate, +1 House

Pew and Gallup have the Dems +80.
Pew - a LIB group.
Gallup - 90% of undecideds go to Kerry.
Brilliant.

My prediction: GOP +2 Senate, +1 House Well, we've got a structural edge right off the bat in this election. Despite the fact that we hold more Senate seats than the Dems, more of them are up for re-election this time around than us. They've also got quite a few retiring (I count Jeffords as a Dem). More exposure = fewer chances for them to gain seats, more chances for them to lose seats; fewer chaces for us to lose seats, more chances for us to gain seats.

I got to see the first four hours, then when they cut to the news conf., my TiVo assumed the program was over. GRRRRRR! So I didn't get to see the last part of Monday night's show. Still, POWERFUL stuff, and while it made Clarke look too good, it nevertheless made Clinton and Not-So-Bright look like the morons they were.

"82 percent of Republicans saying they approve of the presidents job performance "
Eighty two percent of Republicans approve of all the spending, the big government, free drug programs of the president? They approve of Ted Kennedy writing the education bill, giving away the first amendment with McPain? Amazing! No wonder so many on this board say that we have to keep voting these RINOs in all the time, they approve of the liberal trend.

Wow!
Let me know where this Senate +2 pick up is coming from.
Presuming you are saying that every incumbent Republican is going to win?

Just before the last election Gallup had a poll that showed Bush ahead with people who had decided who they were going to vote for. So to help out Kerry they assigned 90% of the still undecided voters to Kerry to get a 49-49 tie. They were found out by Rush and a few other new media types. You don't have to do much digging to find it, I remember it happening like it was yesterday. It completely shattered my faith in Gallup as a pollster.

So all the other stuff is ok? We just have to put up with the liberal big government mess so we can have the WOT and Harriet Meijers?

The GOP is actually WAY behind in the polls. WAY behind. We are facing a slaughter. But we are now rigging the opinion polls so when we steal the election through Diebold it won't be obvious. All the talking heads will just point out the big surge in the polls the GOP had in the last 6 weeks leading up to the election and the motivated base put them over the top.
But in reality it was Rove and Diebold that saved the day!

I predicted that we pick up NJ with Menendez going down, and that alone should prevent a Rat takeover of the Senate, regardless of other races.
But a net 2 gain, I don't know what the other poster is looking at. I suggest the Rats get a net gain of 2 at best, likely 1.
I think Santorum pulls it out in the end to really infuriate the left. That will be sweet!
