Bush: "Texas has lost one of its great daughters"
WASHINGTON President Bush has paid tribute today to Ann Richards, whom he ousted and succeeded as governor in 1995.
The former Democratic governor of Texas died last night at her Austin home after a battle against esophageal cancer. She was 73.
In a statement issued by the White House, the president said he and first lady Laura Bush "are deeply saddened by the passing of Governor Ann Richards of Texas."
He said Richards "loved Texas, and Texans loved her," and that "as a public servant she earned respect and admiration."
The president said Richards "became a national role model, and her charm, wit and candor brought a refreshing vitality to public life."
He concluded that "Texas has lost one of its great daughters."

President Bush has more class and dignity in his little pinky than all the Democrats in America put together. Bump that.

Politics are dirty. I don't think a heated campaign necessarily sums up the heart and soul of a person.

They'll probably have a Wellstone farewell, in which I don't think you will see a Gentleman and his Lady attending...

Will they learn from past mistakes, and avoid turning it into a "funerally" a~la Wellstone? The new breed of desperate Democrat scumbags cannot help themselves.

Condolences to her family, but I still wonder if Bush's main weaknesses is being to nice to those who want to destroy him.

Just think about all their hateful comments after Ronald Reagan's death. IIRC it took Jimmy Carter some 36 hours, before he acknowledged Ronald Reagan's passing, and IIRC it was somewhat of a terse statement.

She did have some class, unlike the radical marxist Wellstone family that disinvited VP Dick Cheney, even though as VP of the United States, he is leader of the US Senate per the US Constitution.

If they do, it'll be as Rush says-- tells us more about them than about President Bush.

I hope the President does attend her funeral, if asked by the family. It will show his class, and his willingness to put partisan politics aside to honor the life and service of Ann Richards. I didn't particularly like her, or agree with her politics, and maybe the President didn't either, but he knows how to respond with dignity at a rival's passing.

I certainly don't doubt that the Dims will profane this funeral as well.

Will they learn from past mistakes, and avoid turning it into a "funerally" a~la Wellstone? We shall see. They never learn. She was a die hard partisan and her funeral will be the same.

Bush's statement is much nicer than she deserved and much nicer than her comment would be if the situation was reversed.
