Bush: "Texas has lost one of its great daughters"
WASHINGTON President Bush has paid tribute today to Ann Richards, whom he ousted and succeeded as governor in 1995.
The former Democratic governor of Texas died last night at her Austin home after a battle against esophageal cancer. She was 73.
In a statement issued by the White House, the president said he and first lady Laura Bush "are deeply saddened by the passing of Governor Ann Richards of Texas."
He said Richards "loved Texas, and Texans loved her," and that "as a public servant she earned respect and admiration."
The president said Richards "became a national role model, and her charm, wit and candor brought a refreshing vitality to public life."
He concluded that "Texas has lost one of its great daughters."
President Bush has more class and dignity in his little pinky than all the Democrats in America put together.
Sad that someone lives their life with so much contempt for certain people(ie conservatives)and dies with that hate.
Ditto Bump
Those were my thoughts also.
A lesson that should be taken to heart by EVERYONE.
AMEN, Peach, Amen.
God bless President Bush and rest the soul of Ann Richards.
Will they boo him at the Funeral?
Just think about all their hateful comments after Ronald Reagan's death.
I know it may not sound charitable, but I hope she died better than she lived. That was a dirty campaign against Bush for the governorship.
Is the Pope German?
He does. After all the vile things she's said about him and his family, he's still the gentleman. I have seen liberals continue the smear campaigns even after death, but not the Bush family.
Ann Richards was so ugly toward George W. Bush when he ran for Governor in Texas and again when he ran for the presidency.
I won't say anything ugly about this woman and will try and follow the president's excellent example so I will leave the thread.
Ms. Richards. RIP
I for one never voted for her or liked her. President Bush has much more class than I.
and Amen to that.
Mine too....President and Mrs. Bush are class acts!
Though I held her politics with great disdain, I hated to hear of her passing.
Will they learn from past mistakes, and avoid turning it into a "funerally" a~la Wellstone? We shall see.
