The woman who fought back during a carjacking believes her safety may still be at risk. This weekend the Copiah County woman shot and killed the man she said was trying to steal her car and possibly kill her.
It happened around 11:30pm Saturday outside a pool hall on Highway 51 in Copiah County.
Kennya Johnson is still shaken up. Saturday night she was leaving the pool hall in Copiah County when a man approached her, asked for directions, then pulled out a gun.
"I reached over to shut my door from my left, and he had a gun in my face, a silver gun in my face," said Johnson. "He told me to get out. I threw my hands up, and asked him what he wanted and he said, I want to have this car."
Johnson says she offered to give the man her car, but as friends passed by, her attacker told her not to speak out. The gun was still at her chest. Johnson feared for the worst.
"I'm begging him and telling him that I have got kids," said Johnson. "He said, b***h do I look like I have got a heart.' So I knew it was serious at this time."
Luckily, her attacker, Vincent Fleming, 19, of Jackson, got confused. He misheard Johnson and assumed she had a child in the back seat. He allowed her to remove the baby, but she took that opportunity to get her handgun. She reached inside grabbed the gun and shot once. Fleming fell to the ground
"At that time he came up with the gun pointed at me. So I just started back shooting because it was either me or him," said Johnson.
She shot the 19-year-old at about five times. She said three other men picked the teen up off the ground and drove away. He later died at the hospital.
But Johnson still fears retaliation. Johnson said she was told by investigators that one of those three men turned himself in on Sunday. She said he provided investigators with valuable information but was never arrested.
"So that means that there are three guys out there that know me, and I don't know them. Evidently the Sheriff's department is not concerned about my safety," said Johnson.
Johnson believes her 1992 Buick was not what her attacker really wanted. She said he mentioned how much he liked her 22-inch rims.
Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones would not address Kennya Johnson's concerns today. He says the investigation is still ongoing.
Most likely a cheap nickle plated thing. But not necessarily, there are good guns that can be had nickle plated... but what was it Patton said about Pearl Handled Pistols? Something about a pimp in a New Orleans whorehouse?
she just happens to have her own gun handy enough to shoot him five times before he knows what happened
You don't "just happen" to have a firearm, you plan to have one. She did, although apparently it wasn't in all that "handy" a location. She just surprised him when she came up with it rather than the baby he thought was in the back seat. :)
What point in having a gun if it's not at hand, and loaded, when you need it?
Another righteous killing!
Tune in at 6:00 to see if you picked the correct line.

I'd bet all three will be used, and perhaps a few more.
Nothing in the story says she did either. A .380 might be the most likely, but a 9 mm or .40 are also possible, even if in a cheap and clunky gun.
However for all we know she had a "Dirty Harry" .44 Magnum in the back seat. :)

Maybe she works there, and hubby was home with kids. Who knows? None of our D#$% business either.
Another TEEN.
Now, what's with $2,000.00 rims on a $1,000.00 car?
Exactly. But you see how some with an agenda would try to make the real victim into a villain and this so-called "teen" or "disadvantaged youth" into a victim. As someone said, once that child puts on a gun or starts carrying around some other weapon for the purpose of doing harm, he/she is no longer a child.
Kennya,
The next opportunity you get to be interviewed/get your story out in the media, state that:
a. You have recently met a shooting expert who stated that your "pattern of shots" could be improved and the caliber of your weapon should be increased for "maximum killing power".
b. As a result, you are taking shooting lessons and buying a larger caliber automatic, with a large clip, so that if his three friends decide to threaten your life, you will have a excellent chance of getting all three, in self-defense of course.
c. You sincerely hope that these three don't come after you, but if they do, you intend to be fully prepared, and will not be intimidated by the possibility of them attempting revenge on you.
This woman can join me in my fighting position at anytime.

"I bet the police took here pistol for evidence, leaving her without protection. I would hope the authorities wouldn't leave her in such a predicament. Folks in Mississippi usually have the common sense not to."
Folks in Mississippi usually have the common sense to have more than one gun. ;o)
After the first shot she was heard to say, "Do you feel lucky"? and then proceeded to make additional lead deposits. Cause of death: Lead poisoning.
As a Mississippi native I know that, but they are some Mississippians have unusual common sense or maybe her other shootin' iron was still at the cleaners.
Good ploy to remember! Kid in back seat.
Good shooting.
Idiot officials.
