Former N.J. Governor Talks to Oprah
TRENTON, N.J. Sep 12, 2006 (AP) Former Gov. James E. McGreevey, who had been publicly silent since announcing two years ago that he was gay and was resigning, arrived at the studios of the "Oprah Winfrey Show" Tuesday to tell his story.
Winfrey landed the exclusive interview with McGreevey because of her sense of faith and spirituality, according to friends of the former governor.
McGreevey is said to be a fan of Winfrey's education and anti-poverty work, two issues to which the former governor is devoting more time in his post-political life.
The 49-year-old Democrat drew national attention when he called a news conference in 2004 and, with his wife at his side, publicly declared "I am a gay American." The couple have since separated and McGreevey lives with his partner, Australian financial adviser Mark O'Donnell, 42.
About a dozen friends accompanied McGreevey and O'Donnell to Chicago for the taping scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Some segments of the show, including clips from the New Jersey home McGreevey shares with O'Donnell, were filmed previously.
McGreevey waved and smiled at reporters from a sport utility vehicle as he arrived at the television studio Tuesday but did not speak to the media.
The interview will air Sept. 19, the same day McGreevey's political memoir, "The Confession," goes on sale. The book traces his life through two failed marriages, his rise to the governor's office and the sudden, public implosion of his political career.
McGreevey, a Democrat, announced his homosexuality and his impending resignation in the same speech on Aug. 12, 2004, and acknowledged that he had been involved in an affair with a man.
State Sen. Ray Lesniak, who was interviewed by Winfrey's staff in preparation for the program, said they were interested in how McGreevey is now compared with how he was as governor.
"They are two different people," Lesniak said. "The first person was very guarded and very concerned about how he was perceived. He was driven to achieve and was somewhat uncomfortable.
*snicker*
This is NOT going to help the Dems in the election!! As many idiotic women watch that show, most of them don't know who the VP is, but my guess is that they won't like a GAY man being married to TWO women while he's GAY....I think they will see that as Living a LIE. I hop Oprah mentions that he;s a Democrat MANY MANY times!!
Did he bring his pet Gerbil with him?
Now I know why Tom Cruise always goes on her show for PR work... She`s an expert on BS.
He's a modern day Founding Father...../s
There is no way to parody something like this.
"So, Jim, how's the old wazoo?"
LOL..What IS her "sense" of faith and spirituality anyway?
I think I'd rather see Tom Cruise jumping on the couch than see McG sitting on that couch. UGH
Oprah has been had, again, by a well-packaged liar who now wants to make money from selling a trumped up book.

If McGreevey would set his sights a little closer, he would fulfill his obligations to his children and wife. But he is obviously more in love with his own phallus. I doubt he even loves his new buddy. Divorce is one the main causes of poverty in this country. I am sure when his children have intimacy issues in the future, they will be happy to know that their daddy was gay. I love how people want to save the world, but they don't even want to save their own families or their obligations to their families.
There's not a doubt in my mind that Oprah has faith and spirituality.
There's not a doubt in my mind that McGreevey's people SAID she got the interview because of her faith and spirituality (after all McGreevey went straight---ooo, did I say "went straight"?---to an Episcopal monastery to cool out for a while after resigning).
BUT, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they gave the interview to Oprah because of the size and demographic of her audience, not the depths of her spirituality...
The party then moved on to cruise various rest areas on the interstate.
I wonder if Oprah asked him about all his meetings with strange men in dark bathrooms, because he was so "repressed" at home and by his choice of profession...
