Worried GOP bids to shore up conservative support for Nov.
St. Petersburg Times, FL ^ | Sept. 10, 2006 | WES ALLISON

Leaders fear those disillusioned with the Republican-led Congress could stay home on Election Day, giving victory to the Democrats.

For all those glum conservatives out there, Terry Jeffries has a message: Yes, the Republican-led Congress has failed to plug the leaks in the nation’s borders. Yes, federal spending is out of control, despite pledges by Republican leaders to temper it. And, yes, Congress has failed to pass key social measures once thought all but assured, considering Congress and the White House are in Republican hands.

But Jeffries, the editor of Human Events, a respected conservative newsweekly, also wants readers to realize those frustrations will seem piddling if Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the strident Democratic leader from California, becomes speaker of the House after November’s elections.

Concerned that disillusionment among conservatives may keep them home on Election Day, conservative groups and opinion leaders have embarked on a two-pronged strategy, on one hand urging Republican congressional leaders to assuage their conservative base in the few weeks left, and on the other imploring the base not to abandon deserving Republican candidates at their time of need.

Through articles, opinion columns and talk radio, as well as Internet blogs, they are warning conservative voters that unless they flock to the polls in November, the Republicans may lose control of the U.S. House, and that the margin in the Senate could get dangerously close.

There is something else that we will get and nobody seems to realize it.

Gerrymandering is always slanted to the party in power. Period.

To ensure they stay in power for a long time to come. - Simple concept.

We will not lose the House, period.

If I'm wrong, you can say "I told you so" after the elections.

Nobody wants the dems in power, but I'm not sure why we're painted as the bad guys. A lot of the GOP constantly insults the Constitution and base, and nobody asks them why they dared to do such a thing considering the circumstances.

The base works hard and gets Republicans elected. The politicians then do whatever they want. Come election time, literally the security of the country/world rests on the insulted conservative base to elect more Republicans.

and then present their record of legislation to the country for approval. So far they have done neither.

I feel your pain, and see that your reasoning is sound.

But you also may be very sure of one other thing.

and then present their record of legislation to the country for approval.

The far left democrats certainly have done so to their leftist constituents, and if they control the reins of power its Johnny bar the door, because the flood of real Socialist, far left legislation will be coming for decades to come.

Military spending gutted.
Gay agenda in top gear.
Revisionist history with no restraints in the schools
The MSM will be validated in it's current tactics to push their "agenda for change."

20 - 30 million new leftist voters, AKA immigrants,

Think about how close that last issue almost came to pass and how it was barely stopped by.... The House.

And that alone is a checkmate issue for conservatives as the Voting demographics would change with the stroke of a pen.

That just a few issues and the list goes on.

It's such a sad day when Republicans have to resort to the stupid "If you're think WE'RE bad... look at the competition", mantra.

Sickening. How about addressing the problems you've mentioned instead of just acknowledging them.

"Anyone who prefers Speaker Pelosi to Republican control in Congress is NO CONSERVATIVE. PERIOD. There is no excuse to allow the Dems to take over."

Go tell that to the liberal Republicans, you're wasting your time here.

Exactly. The Dems are the real enemy.

Nope. Liberalism is the enemy. It does not matter which party it manifests itself in, it must be destroyed.

"And think about how when the Dems took over the House, it took 40 years, before we could get it back."

House, Senate and POTUS. What have they done for Conservatives lately?

A few good SC nominations, some decent tax cuts.....but measure that against an absolute flood of illegals that will have some nation changing detrimental effects for the foreseeable future....and run away spending. Talk about a wasted opportunity!

...urging Republican congressional leaders to assuage their conservative base in the few weeks left...

Campaign Memo from Karl Rove:
O.K. guys, time to engage yourselves in our "Plantation Strategy" we learned from the Democrats. Get out there and throw those ignorant, Red Neck, Conservatives a bone, but just enough to keep them on the plantation until after the election. If you need to get in touch with me call the Rhode Island number. Lizzie Dole and I will be up there in bed with Lincoln Chafee."

Yours for a kinder, gentler GOP,
Karl

It seems that people who gave us 8 years of Clinton, because they wanted to show the Republicans by voting for Perot, learned nothing.

This is an imbecilic remark.
If you Republicans wish to win the solution is simple...run conservatives. I myself will not, ever, vote for any other type of candidate.
Of course folks like yourself are more than willing to forsake any moral and logical discretion you may have in order to boast of your (Pyrrhic) victories.

“We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all.” --- Ronald Reagan, 1965

it is time to wipe the RINOs out of the book, all of them.

Yes. That way the GOP can become a minority party as it was for 50+ years after the New Deal. You are obviously not serious about actually accomplishing something politically. You merely want to feel pure and powerful. It doesn't work that way. Never has. Never will. Too bad for you. And the country, if 'conservatives' share your selfish attitude.

Oh, so conservatives are supposed to blind vote Republican again and think that is going to solve anything? How many times does the less-of-two-evil strategy have to fail before it sinks through certain people's skulls that it does work?

There is no chance for ANY significant changes in this nation with a CONSERVATIVE majority in Congress and a conservative in the White House. The biggest obstacle to that objective is RINO and liberal Republicans. Until they are eliminated, there will be no significant changes in the nation.

If conservatives keep rewarding Republicans that compromise, why would the Republican party ever stop compromising? They won't if they know conservatives are dumb enough to vote for them no matter how much they spend and no matter what kind of pseudo-amnesty legislation they attempt to passs.

Conservatives MUST vote for conservatives and let the RINOs die on the vine -- even if that means allowing Democrats to temporarily take the a seat.

Who cares of Nancy Pelosi is speaker for two years if in 2008 conservative Republicans end up having a working majority in the House? A little gridlock would do wonders for Federal spending and make the Republican party realize it must putforth conservative candidates.

We busted ass and turned out in droves to get them elected,

You want a medal or a chest to put it on? Good grief. Voting is a privilege AND your civic duty.

Yet somehow things we wanted all ended up getting hamstrung, blocked by procedural moves, etc.... funny how that happens.

Most of the social issues have been pushed by liberal judges. Getting conservatives on the court is the most important way to address the issues that 'social' conservatives care about. It is going to be a slow process because, in many instances, the 'social' conservatives represent a minority opinion.

What is your big issue? Do you think the Democrats would do more to advance your cause?

LOL! It is not inspirational. It is realistic, though. It is the way our government works. You don't get all of what you want. You just get more of what you want from one side than the other.

Another self-righteous person who wants to be in the minority so they can feel all pure and clean. None of that compromising that comes with being in the majority for you. Fool.
