PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- A US Airways flight bound for Charlotte, N.C., was delayed for more than 3 hours Sunday night after a passenger found a small knife on the floor under the seat in front of him, an airline spokesman said.
Flight 1897 was scheduled to leave at 7:35 p.m. The pilot declared the plane, a 737-400, a "threatened aircraft," shortly after pushing away from the gate, airport spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny said.
The plane returned to the gate, where the 142 passengers were taken off the plane to be screened again. The plane also was re-checked.
The flight had a five-member crew -- two pilots and three flight attendants -- who had worked their maximum amount of time for the day, said US Airways spokesman Phil Gee. The flight was expected to leave between 10:30 and 11 p.m. after another crew was brought in. The flight to Charlotte normally takes 85 minutes.
Federal transportation authorities and Allegheny County police are investigating.
I seem to remember the airlines finding a knife sitting on a chair a few weeks ago on another airplane...coincidence?
No, they are being tested (IMO) to see what they can sneak aboard.
Or they've decided they can break the airline business with countless fake scares.

This just lends further credence to my theory that we would be better off giving each of the TSA knuckleheads a picture of a Middle Eastern male who shouldn't be here and have them find him and keep an eye on him till real law enforcement get there to arrest and deport him. Getting rid of the trouble makers would do more to solve our problems than the circus they have going on at every airport
The report came out yesterday concerning a young male from Yemen who was returning to Yemen from Detroit on a one way ticket. Somehow he managed to hide a knife inside a book. I think this set off a few bells as he was stopped, arrested and I believe the report stated he was underr 55K bond. Will search FR and see if I can find the report.
That was my first thought too. Probably left by one of those fun-loving Middle Eastern bands. Move along. Nothing to see.

A man was jailed on $500,000 bail Saturday after authorities alleged he tried to board a plane bound for his native Yemen with a knife hidden in a book.
Mohammed Ghanem, 21, of Hamtramck, was arrested Thursday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after Transportation Security Administration officers detected the knife "artfully concealed" in the book, airport spokesman Michael Conway said.

Found it!
I would truly like to see some idiot try and take over a plane with a knife these days. Even if an hijacker pulled out a gun, he would likely be bum-rushed. Unless the flight is heading to Berkeley, CA, there would be no shortage of red-blooded Americans ready to take down a potential terrorist.
I think this is diversionary and an attempt to create tunnel vision.

Yes. I saw a link somewhere in a post on FR... I will look, it was to a blog.
under seat, covered in plastic a few weeks ago.

How did that knife get on the plane? I wonder how many sleepers work at airports, cleaning crew, etc. I would guess the number would give us nightmares.
Thanks. I wonder how many more of these we need to raise the alarm level.
