New Orleans has been hit by another rash of violence this weekend. In the past 24 hours, there have been 8 shootings.
The shootings are occurring in areas that are away from the tourist areas.
In a press conference, two weeks ago, Chief Warren Riley said the City was deploying some methods that were confidential to reduce crime. However, he would not discuss those methods in fear that those secrets would be revealed and the criminals would not be deterred once they were armed with knowledge.
New Orleans is seeing more crime due to some of its former residents returning and due to drug trade. Some of the crime has been domestic, in nature. Part of the problem for the high return of the crime rate is the entire criminal justice system is in shambles.
Next Saturday, the City will hold a Crime summit. The purpose is to take a holistic approach of the problem but devise specific solutions. With eight shootings in 24 hours, New Orleans needs solutions, fast.

I don't live in Texas, and I believe the majority of the country feels the same way I do.
Every part of the country has its own disaster strikes, whether it's mudslides or fires or hurricanes or tornadoes or whatever.
And people in America pick themselves up and trudge their way through it.
The whiners in NO (and no, I am not saying that everyone who lives there is a whiner), act like no one has ever had to go through this kind of thing before.

Oh yes, I'm sure the problem will be solved by having another meeting.
My solution would have been to build a huge, spartan lock-up as the first rebuilt structure after Katrina. Then I would have installed a no-nonsense sheriff to bring some law and order to that chronically lawless society.
To: teenyelliott
No, he is not able to leave and would not if he could.
As for the whiners, I agree, but we picked ourselves up and started over and now have most everything the way it should be, with no help for anyone.
But some in the community want it all done for them, and why should that change now. How people can do this to themselves and their city is beyond me and most of my ilk.

I am glad all you Yahoos out there think this is a joke, try coming to this city and live!!!!! Amanda, I understand your anger and frustration, however, to call US yahoos is a bit much.
We did not re-elect one of the most incompetent Mayors the planet has ever known. We are not there to begin a recall of your incompetent Governor.
Thank you, but I will decline your kind offer to move to New Orleans. I would rather live in a cardboard box, under a bridge in the middle of Nebraska, then try to live in NOLA!
first they came for the jews, when will we be next?????
Are you comparing NO's residents to the plight of the Jews??? I certainly hope not.
Don't be a victim.....organize for change or get the heck out of NOLA!

No, he is not able to leave and would not if he could. I assume from your previous posts that he was able, and in fact did leave last year.

let the New York Times disclose it..I want to know Yes indeed! I believe it is in the public's interest to know, since billions of taxpayer money is being sent there.

I've never thought that it was a joke, Amanda. In her younger years, our daughter was fond of going to Bourbon Street with friends. Even as an adult, we cautioned her to never allow herself to be separated from her group. Her forays into New Orleans brought much worry to me and her mother.
When I say that New Orleans is a dangerous place, I am not joking. I know it to be true.

"So when are the Dems gonna suggest that the NOPD redeploy to Texas?" General Murtha would have them deploy a "quick reaction force" for New Orleans located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

You should leave the city. It is lost. It was lost when the 'chocolate' voters re-elected Schoolbus Nagin. You might as well cut your losses and save you life.

It's too hot in Texas. We actually don't allow crime...we arrest criminals and put them in jail. Whereas, that doesn't happen in NOLA. So these criminals are much safer in NOLA...they can run free and mug innocences.

Criminals armed with knowledge?
I could say something snarky about politicians, but that would be redundant.

The purpose is to take a holistic approach of the problem but devise specific solutions. Typical. Let's hold a summit and "join" together for "healing."
