Chicago chef first foie gras offender
CHICAGO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- A Chicago chef is receiving national media attention for being the first caught selling newly-banned foie gras in his restaurant.
The city Health Department received a 311 non-emergency report Saturday that the Block 44 was offering the pricy delicacy, three days after the city council banned it, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Chef Rick Spiros doesn't dispute the charge.
"I had a couple pieces left over and I just got rid of it," he told the newspaper.
He said it wasn't an act of defiance but an effort to avoid wasting expensive food.
The first offense earned him a letter of caution but a second would carry a $250 fine, the report said.
The city council followed several European cities' lead, banning the artificially fattened duck livers as a product of animal abuse.
Spiros thinks the whole hue and cry is silly.
"There are things far more important to be dealing with in the city," he told the Sun-Times.
Because illiberals want to control every little aspect of your life. That's why.
Hang him!
It's cruel to the poor little goosies.
'Cause they force feed the little duckies..to make their livers bigger......
Can't do that to farm animals.... dontchaknow
"Hang him!"
Fatten him up then give him a wafer mint.
You could make a lot of money selling "faux gras", I bet. And how much would it cost to set up a speakeasy for foodies?
The Internet has these things called "search engines." They're really cool!
PETA and all the animal rights wackos are up in arms because of the way foie gras is made. A goose is supposedly force fed until his liver gets really big and then he is killed and the liver is prepared as foie gras. They fatten up cattle and pigs and chickens and lambs...so what's the big deal. They do duck also. Kill em and grill em.
Ping
Or "faux GRASS"...effectively killing the marijuana industry. :)
Batter and fry some chicken livers, chill, throw in your favorite seasonings along with some hot bacon grease and use the blender for a few minutes.
Just like most things French, it can be done better the American Way!
Anybody have some crackers and Tabasco?
Hey everybody! There's a lobster loose! Quickly cover yourself with hot butter and carry lemons just in case! You have to squirt him and so forth to repel him! Everybody get outta here quickly there's going to be a tragedy!
Cruelty to animals. The geese are forcefed to make them fat so the foie gras will taste better. I kid you not.
So if fattening a goose for eating it is abuse then fattening any animal for eating would be abuse.
Hitler was Vegetarian. He was socialist too I hear.
Because with cattle they don't shove a steel tube down their throat and force 40-50lbs of feed into their stomach.
red onions, chopped egg ummmmm
