Ky. Plane Crash Survivor Asks 'Why?'

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The sole survivor of a plane crash that killed 49 people near the Lexington airport last week told family members from his hospital bed, "Why did God do this to me?" but he hasn't mentioned the crash, a close family friend said Wednesday.

James Polehinke, who was the flight's co-pilot, can move only his head, and tears often well up in his eyes, said Antonio Cruz, Polehinke's mother's boyfriend. He said the 44-year-old has been in and out of consciousness.

'You might find it interesting that there was a combination of circumstances that led to the accident.'

There will be ancillary issues mentioned, but the real causal factor is pilot error. The crew are the only ones who could have prevented the mishap. They were up departure, the tower call would have to have been on Guard, they crossed a lit runway, the crew is responsible, and the PIC is ultimately the responsible person.

'Just like MURTHA and the Marines in HADITHA, maybe you are a little to quick to judge others, considering YOU WEREN'T THERE.'

But the facts are there to see, unlike Haditha and I don't hate the crew, but don't/can't excuse them.

Hello! You seem to be familiar with aviation. Should the pilot and co-pilot have been able to see that the runway was too short before it was too late?

It was dark, if they had checked their compass, they would have known they were on the wrong one and that is was too short for their min requirements. The fact that they used an unlit runway shows a lack of situational awareness. Passenger AC use lit runways. On their takeoff roll, they crossed the duty which was lit. That should have been a good abort clue. They were however, by then on the 'Road to Abilene'.

Look I do not know who who is on that ping list and that is not really that important. What is important here is that Co Pilot will live in torment and be haunted with all of those lost lives because he was part of a tragic chain of events and he missed his opportunity to stop it because he did not see the warnings.

For the record I do not hate science. As I see it, the majority what goes down on the evo ping list threads is not science no matter who the signers to it are. Usually the threads are 'luddite bashing' even when 'no luddites' show up. I can take pretty much any thread you want on that one to prove it, and you know it.

Now Coyote, what you think is productive is a very subjective thing, so if we cant agree on that then do not use any of my posts as a entry place for yours, IOW don't use my post and replace 'Wolf with 'All in the [to field] capiche?? To be truthful, your using my posts as a springboard does not bother me at all, but this looks like a tit for tat thing going on here.

Now Ichneumon, I saw some of what you said on that DC thread that was taken offline, and your comments were off the mark because they were incomplete as is my project. Actually while it was a pretty good roast going on there, most of it was not all that bad. 'Wolf can take it, he might sign up there and fend for himself.

Funny. . . Usually when we post a science thread and no contrarians show up the thread is spent talking about science. However, when the anti-evolutionists post a science thread, either you'll see a dozen sarcastic posts bashing evolutionists or a dozen silly posts show up before the thread chokes and dies since no one's really interested in talking about the science.
