Ask the FCC to enforce broadcast decency laws should CBS air profane language during prime-time viewing hours this Sunday evening
Earlier I wrote you about the plans by CBS to air "9/11" containing hardcore profanity during primetime viewing (Supreme Court's 'safe-harbour') hours when children are most likely to be watching television. The program is schedule to air this Sunday evening.
Because of your actions, CBS announced they would not seek sponsors for the program. But they also said, sponsors or no sponsors, that they will not mute the profanity.
A growing number of CBS affiliates have publicly stated that they would not carry the program. Other affiliates are expected to drop the show or air it late at night. Those that do carry it risk at fine of $325,000 for each indecent incident. Potential fines could run into the millions of dollars.
But CBS has responded by saying that the profanity is ok to broadcast to children because it will be shown "in context" of the program itself.
If the FCC allows this as an acceptable excuse to air the profanity, it leaves the door open for CBS to show anything and everything because anything, and everything, is always "in context."
For instance, suppose CBS decides they want to air a documentary concerning pornography. Using CBS's logic, the network could show actual hardcore pornographic scenes in an "after school special" saying the scenes are "in context" and necessary because they are an integral part of the documentary.
The phrase "in context" means that CBS could (and would) show anything because it is "in context." In the final analysis "in context" means nothing is exempt.
I urge you to email the FCC urging them to reject the "in context" argument. A copy will also go to CBS. And please forward this to your friends and family.
Take Action
Send the email to the FCC asking them to reject the "in context" argument.
Contact your local CBS affiliate" and ask them not to air "9/11." Tell them you are prepared to file a formal complaint with the FCC if they do.
Please inform your friends and family.

The AFA tends to offend easily. Many people think that they do good work, but I tend to disagree. If they only gave their opinions on programs and movies, such as which would be appropriate for families and children, I'd have no problem. Instead they are more in favor of a nanny-state type of regulating what people see. If it is offensive to some, it can't be shown to anybody at all no matter what! I've got a solution for the AFA hacks: ignore them completely!
The apparently should indicate it is hyperbole.
But, ironically, instead of supporting a true rendition of that day, AFA is attacking CBS for doing a GOOD thing and not airing liberal propaganda about Sept. 11.
They are being politically fair by airing this good documentary.
Instead of getting praise for this, AFA whips up a storm of protest.
NO WONDER we can't get conservative programs on television.
They are darned if they do and darned if they don't.
i watched this a few months after 9/11 when it first aired on prime time and they didnt bleep out anything then, why do it now?
That's the fighting American spirit! Just roll over and accept terrorism.
You can probably get a good deal on Islamic prayer rugs on e-Bay.
Actor Robert De Niro hosts the award-winning documentary, which began as a quest to follow a rookie firefighter on an ordinary day but resulted in the only known video of the first plane striking the World Trade Center and horrific and inspiring scenes of rescue, escape and death. CBS will show it on Sept. 10 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT, profanity intact.

Plot Outline A real life documentary following the events of September 11 from an insider's view, through the lens of two French filmmakers who were in Manhattan that one day.
Plot Synopsis: On September 11, 2001, filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet were filming a documentary on a rookie New York City firefighter when they noticed a plane overhead. That plane would hit the World Trade Center. The firefighter and the Naudets rushed immediately to the scene. The Naudets filmed throughout Sept. 11 and the days afterward from the firemen's perspective, as it became clear to them that this was the only known footage from inside the Twin Towers that day.
It's called: "Activism", and not being just a couch potato(e).
CBS is showing a documentary of what happened on 9/11...two Frenchmen happened to be filming what goes on in the life of NYC firefighters that morning.
That answers my question as well. Thanks.
It is an amazing documentary. I would show it in class while student teaching, but my coop teacher has a collection of news clips he wants to show next week, so I probably can't except for the one class I am taking over fully.
Just FYI - We dropped HBO because on Deadwood every other sentence seemed to carry the F word. It got to be too much.
LOL, the Dims are playing the profanity card? They'd better think that one through. DU will completely collapse without cursing.
I don't see anything wrong with showing this if they censored the profanity from it, or decide to show it "Uncensored" at a later hour like.....13AM (No, it's not a typo). I also heard from Rush this morning that he heard that the former Clinton Stooges have complained to CBS about some of the content of this program concerning themselves and Klinton, and that CBS is "editing" some parts of the program before it airs on Sunday.
I will tape the ABC one since I already have the CBS one on tape.
It is supposedly an updated version, but I doubt they changed much of anything.
My bad .. I thought the AFA email was referencing the ABC mini-series that has the dims up in arms ... gonna go get some coffee now and spill it in my lap to wake myself up.

I saw it last year. I am not ashamed to admit I cried at certain parts.
Fine! I am not going to watch network TV anyway, except for the NASCAR race.

Glad to see freepers who have their priorities straight. Won't watch a documentary on 9/11, but will turn that tube on to watch people drive in circles.
Whenever I have the urge to watch traffic, I just go to the MDOT website and check out their beltwaycam.
