The book's web site's main page links to a review from the National Center for the Study of Children's Literature, at SDSU. This is the Center's review, mind you, and not simply a children's review of the book. The 2nd sentence is: "I liked it a lot." That, to me, is so funny on so many levels... and slightly terrifying.

Better check out Zachary again. Cats are only Democrats for the first 8 days of their lives. That's when they open their eyes and become Republicans.
However, someone might have registered him to vote as a Democrat.
Other reasons Mommy is a Democrat:
- She's got the IQ of a 40 watt lightbulb.
- She only has little tree rats because of a weekend at the Kennedy compound.
- She hates her country.
- Her mommy and grandmommy were all democrats, and she never learned to think for herself.
- Her life partner, "Patty" demanded she vote for Dean.
Mommy is a Democrat because she hopped in the sack with a loser or two, and personal responsibility just ain't her thang, so out went the hand to git paid, and the Democrats stepped up to the plate with Great Society (tm) brand Charity. Now, she'll never amount to anything, even if she lives to 18 without cracking out.
