HARRIS WINS REPUBLICAN NOMINATION
POISED TO DEFEAT BILL NELSON IN NOVEMBER
TAMPA, FLCongresswoman Katherine Harris received the Republican nomination for United States Senate this evening, and celebrated her landslide victory at campaign headquarters with nearly a hundred grassroots supporters in attendance. Harris received the nomination by winning nearly every one of Floridas 67 counties, demonstrating voters confidence in her leadership and ability to unseat Bill Nelson in November.
Congresswoman Harris states, I am thankful for the widespread support demonstrated by tonights strong victory. Im thankful for the personal sacrifices made by my family, staff and many dear friends who all united on my behalf because Florida deserves better than Bill Nelson. When elected to the Senate in November, I will finish the fight I started in the House and ensure that Florida remains a place where hard-working families can keep more of their hard-earned money while living in safe and affordable communities.
While the Harris campaign is very pleased with tonights election results, all of our energies will continue to be focused upon unseating the do-nothing liberal incumbent, Bill Nelson. Harris opponent has missed countless opportunities to provide the leadership Florida deserves in the United States Senate while she has a clear record of demonstrating leadership and delivering results for all Floridians.
While serving in the State Senate, as Secretary of State, and in the United States Congress, Katherine Harris has fulfilled her promises and fought for Floridas best interests. Throughout her tenure in public office, Harris has championed legislation to bolster Floridas economic development, cut taxes, reduce government spending and support traditional values. Katherine Harris will continue to do what is right for the people of Florida and work to advance their values as the next Republican U.S. Senator from the great state of Florida.

That's a more accurate title.
Looks like early demonrat reports of her ignominious defeat were greatly exaggerated.
I don't think many of us here really thought that she would lose the primary. We just don't think she has a prayer of winning the general.
I won't have much sympathy for Florida when they send another Dim to Washington.
I bet half you guys demanding everyone "get behind" Harris because she is the Republican nominee are REFUSING to support the "official" Republican nominee in half a dozen other states, like Kean in NJ and most notably Schlessinger in CT. Those people legitablity won their party's nomination, where's all the outpouring of freeper support because their "better than the Democrat"? Are you supporting Schlessinger and going to campaign like heck for him, or are you rooting for Al Gore's ol' running Joe Loserman (and his 90% liberal voting record) to win?
Well put.
Maybe if Kean and Schlessinger would thrust out their chests when being interviewed?
I agree with you. I think this is a failure of Elizabeth Dole to recruit better candidates. I'd be shocked if Harris wins this election.
"Looks like early demonrat reports of her ignominious defeat were greatly exaggerated."
I don't think a single person on here predicted losing in the primary. Its the general that she appears ready to be slaughtered in. She's run a terrible campaign.
BUMP to that. I really don't understand why they hate her so much. She prevented the RATS from stealing the election, so that Pres. Bush could be elected in the first place!
The negativity towards her has been uncalled for, and seems coordinated.
Maybe it's an uphill climb,
but it's time to get behind our primary winner, Katherine Harris.
I HOPE she beats Bill Nelson, who is a liberal and an idiot and would make Kennedy and Reid the masters of the Senate.
No Republican will stand in her way now.
We need to unite behind our candidates.
I hope and expect even Jeb Bush will campaign for her.
I hope she wins too but in this case, I'm not optimistic.

I can't speak for others but as for me I would support all the Republican nominees, unless they have some character blemishes (which I dont see here). That said, we have some real viable candidates (like Kean, Steele, Kennedy in Minn.) and we have candidates who are long-shorts or worse (CT is an example). We should support and not undercut any GOP candidate post-primary, but our energy and effort is best centered around winnable races.
To any good Republican: *definitely* get behind Kean ... he's ahead in the polls and has a very good chance to pick up that seat.
And for the record, despite the previous polls, I consider Harris a winnable race now. If Harris can get the GOP behind her and build up her base support, she would be in striking distance.
In the unlikely event she wins she'll be identified as - Katherine Harris (R-Starbucks)
"Is that you, Alan Schlesinger? :0)"
Look, it may be fun to laugh at one of our own Senate candidates, but consider this: CT is a deep blue state and
its a real long shot race (er snowballs chance in hell race). So hats off to getting a Republican willing to put his hat in the ring, giving Republicans a choice (cue the Teddy Roosevelt speech) ... "It's not the critic who counts".
God Bless and good luck to her and the Freepers of FL.
" You can put that same question to a plethora of so called "FReeper" who for months used the same tactics regarding posting their anti- Kathrine Harris bashing here"
I was bashing Harris pre-primary because I thought Florida could find a better nominee. ... the primary voters have spoken, and now is the time to put that behind us and unit behind defeating the sub-par moronic liberal Senator Nelson.
Please, someone post that pick of Nelson coming out from watching Moore's "Farenheit 911" with that silly grin ... a reminder of the choice we have.
