Good - this kicks Elena Ford out of the day to day operations and makes sure she won't be heir-apparent to the CEO position.

FYI, Elena is the idiot responsible for killing off SVT.

Could be a case of too little, too late I'm afraid. Ford's going to lose a few of it's marques in the process of being resuscitated.

Well, Mulally should be good with fleet sales. Other than that, I can't really see what he would bring to the table that would be helpful to Ford.

They've needed to kill a couple of them off for a while now.
Mercury needs to be put out of its misery, Jaguar either needs to be redeveloped in the Aston niche (since it's all but certain Aston is going to be sold; and Aston was actually limiting Jaguar's top end models) or sold to someone other than the Aston buyer.

"Other than that, I can't really see what he would bring to the table that would be helpful to Ford."

Strategic planning, perhaps. Boeing, for example, is in the business of working far ahead of the present to get stuff to market at the right time.

Myself, I'd rather fly on a Boeing airliner than any other.

Ford must do something more than just produce the same old crap year after year. If they don't innovate in some way, the company's going to be gone soon.

This sounds like a pretty good move to me.

"Wonder if their new CEO will finally "break up" with the homos.

Hardly their main problem. Really.

I remember Alan Mulally from the PBS series on the making of the 777. He was/is a very engaging character.

Something's got to be done with Jaguar - the new Hyundais look way too much like them. Who the heck is going to buy a Jaguar when it looks like a $20,000 car?

Aston Martin is the reason why Ford made Jaguar's top engine a V-10, not a V-12, and why we don't have the 550+hp XKR R-Performance in showrooms - because both would threaten Aston sales. It's stupid.

Of course, letting idiots run the division and produce such garbage as the X-Type didn't help either.
