Saw this just breaking...Jerry Lewis will not host the annual MDA telethon for the first time ever due to a sudden illness...Ed McMahon will take his place as full time host this year.
Lewis has battled a number of illnesses over the last 12 years but always managed to host the 21.5 hour show...even on oxygen.
A taped opening filmed on August 31st on the Vegas strip with him stopping traffic with an orchestra at 2 am will still be shown but Lewis is too ill to do the show live.
I have supported MDA since age 4 when I would walk neighborhoods collecting for the charity and well...Labor Day wouldn't be Labor Day without Jerry Lewis on TV.
That sucks - I never really cared for Lewis' comedy but thought his telethon was a great thing.
Wow... you know he's in a bad way.
Even his movies with Dean Martin? They were so silly they were hilarious.
prayers for Jerry Lewis.
he is an intresting and a weird guy, but his heart is in the right place most of the time.
Understand...his sense of humor is really a matter of taste. One can not however look at the man and not show an enormous amount of respect for 41+ years of dedication for MDA...it still gets major star power to the program.

Prayers for Jerry!
France is deeply saddened...
I'm sorry to hear this, and offer my prayers as well. Labor Day is all about the MDA Telethon. I'll of course watch much of the telethon and make our annual contribution, but it won't be the same without Jerry.
Poor Jerry..sw
Jerry...if you are never able to do another telethon then God bless you for the work and dedication all these years for MDA. Get well is our prayers for you.
"Ho, ho, no, what kind of Zeros ARE they, Johnny? Ho, ho, ho."
That's more or less what I was going to say but you beat me to it
So.....
Ditto!
I always liked Lewis and could never understand all the bashing he gets. I would suspect it`s because of his loud manner, but that never bothered me. What bothers me was the idolization of him by France which to me was such an insult. If dogshiet idolizes someone you admire, how can you not be insulted?
Snide!
Putting "talent" and "Celine Dion" in the same sentence is like putting "sane" in the same sentence with "Al Gore".
Where did you see/hear this? Just yesterday there was an interview saying that his health was better. Guess he had a setback. We'll miss him this year.
He really doesn't look like he'll be around much longer. I wish him the best for now. He seems like a good man. I like him even more after reading how he stands up for his telethon. See: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1694761/posts .
