New Al Qaeda message threatens France
Paris - Al-Qaeda's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has threatened France with attacks by an Algerian terrorist group, French media reported Thursday.
According to a transcription of a video released earlier this week, al-Zawahiri announced the official alliance between al Qaeda and the Algerian Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), and threatened that it would be a 'thorn' in the throat of the French.
'Our soldier sheikh..., Osama bin Laden, has charged me to announce that the GSPC has joined al-Qaeda. We pray to God that they become a thorn in the throats of the American and French crusaders and their allies,' al-Zawihiri said in the video, which was primarily concerned with the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The substance of the video statement was made public on Monday.
Al-Qaeda messages directly targetting France are rare. The last one dates back to 2004, when bin Laden criticized the French for banning the wearing of the Islamic headscarf in public schools.
The GSPC was created at the end of the 1990s by dissidents of the Algerian Armed Islamic Group (GIA), and in September 2005 declared France to be 'public enemy number one, enemy of our religion, enemy of our community.'

Ayman al Zawahiri makes very specific references and attacks President George Bush for not accepting the truce offered by Osama bin Laden. He urges all Muslims to take up jihad, to make use of every opportunity to take revenge on America for its imprisonment of Sheikh Umar Abd al-Rahman, a reference to Abd al-Rahman who is imprisoned for his role in the February 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
"The days are pregnant and will bear new events God Willing"
1) Warnings and more warnings
2) A Truce offer
3) An invitation to convert to Islam
4) Indication that the truce and invitation to convert was not accepted. They now believe that they are justified in launching another 9/11 or worse.
Stat safe and vigilant!!!

"Al-Qaida cell targeted Oslo synagogue"
By MICHAEL FREUND
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An al-Qaida-linked Algerian terror cell that was broken up by Italian police last fall was planning to carry out attacks on targets in Oslo, Norway, including the city's main synagogue.
Anne Sender, president of Norway's Jewish community, told The Jerusalem Post during a telephone interview from Oslo that local authorities had informed her shortly after the suspects were arrested in November that there existed a credible terrorist threat against the synagogue.
The plot came to light only this week in the wake of a report on Monday in the Norwegian Verdens Gang (VG) newspaper.
"At the time, we were informed by the government that some people had been caught in Italy and that police had found plans indicating that they were targeting the synagogue in Oslo," Sender said.
She added that the threat was considered sufficiently serious that, in its wake, Norwegian police decided to adopt additional, unspecified measures to boost security at the synagogue.
The terrorists, who resided in Italy but were allegedly plotting attacks against sites in Oslo, belonged to an Algerian-based group known as the GSPC, a French acronym which stands for the Salafist Group for Call and Combat.
The GSPC, which has links to al-Qaida, is a splinter faction that broke away from Algeria's Armed Islamic Group in 1996.
Sender praised Norwegian police, but nonetheless expressed concern over the community's security with the approach of the High Holidays."
The case for limiting Muslim immigration
Muslim immigration into the U.S. is way up, with 96,000 coming from Islamic countries in 2005, more than any other year in the previous two decades.

Washington, DC 20520
This information is current as of today, Thu Sep 14 2006 16:30:33 GMT-0700.
SYRIA
September 14, 2006
This Travel Warning is being issued to alert U.S. citizens to increased security concerns in Syria following the September 12 attack against the U.S. Embassy in Damascus. As a result, the Department of State has authorized the departure of dependents and non-emergency employees at the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on a voluntary basis. In light of these security concerns in Syria, the Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer non-essential travel to Syria. American citizens currently in Syria should carefully evaluate their own security situations and consider departing.
On September 12, the U.S. Embassy in Damascus was attacked by assailants using improvised explosives, gunfire, and two vehicles laden with explosives. However, the Embassy perimeter was not breached and, other than injuries suffered by two local guards, no U.S. Embassy personnel were harmed. This attack underscores the presence of terrorist groups in Syria that have the ability and intent to target American interests. The Embassy is working with the Syrian authorities to address these threats and the security issues raised by the attack on the Embassy.
U.S. citizens who remain in or travel to Syria despite this Travel Warning are encouraged to register at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, and to obtain updated information on travel and security in Syria. Americans in Syria should exercise caution and take prudent measures to maintain their security. These measures include being aware of their surroundings, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, keeping a low profile, varying times and routes for all required travel, and ensuring travel documents are current.
U.S. consular personnel remain available to provide emergency information and services to American citizens. The U.S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria, is located at 2, Al-Mansour St., Abu Roumaneh. The Embassy telephone number is (963) (11) 333-1342, fax (963) (11) 331-9678, e-mail: acsdamascus@state.gov. American citizens may register with the Embassy online by visiting https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs. Additional information may be found on the Embassy website at http://usembassy.state.gov/damascus.
Updated information on travel and security in Syria may be obtained from the Department of State by calling 1-888-407-4747 within the United States or, from overseas, 1-202-501-4444. Additional details can be found in the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Syria, the Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, and the Middle East and North Africa Public Announcement which are available on the Department's internet website at http://travel.state.gov.

Islamic jihadists attack Catholic school in Kashmir
These misunderstanders of Islam attacked the school before the Pope made his remarks.
"Muslim militants attack Catholic school in Kashmir," from CWNews.com, with thanks to Twostellas:
Sep. 13 (CWNews.com) - Muslim fundamentalists attacked a Catholic school in India's Kashmir valley on Monday, demolishing a wall and smashing windows and furniture.
The Good Shepherd Mission School in Pulwama is run by a popular missionary priest, Father Jim Borst of the Dutch Mill Hill order, who has been in the region since 1963. Although Muslim militants persuaded the state government to begin proceedings to expel the priest in 2004, Christian groups campaigned successfully to reverse that order. A leading retreat preacher, Father Borst is credited with initiating the translation of the Bible into the Kashmiri language. The elderly priest-- now in his 70s-- is regularly sought by local Muslims and Hindus, as well as Christians, to comfort the sick and suffering.
During the September 11 attack on the missionary's school, the Muslim militants involved shouted slogans denouncing all Christian missionaries.

Al Qaeda presence in Kashmir worries India

In a major breakthrough, security forces in Jammu's Medhar region have recovered two video CDs containing a film of a training camp being operated by the Al-Qaeda at an undisclosed location, an ANI TV report said on Friday.
The CDs carry no hint of the exact location of the training camps.
The CDs were obtained from two Al-Qaeda terrorists who were gunned down by the security forces. The CDs show youth receiving physical training, shooting and riding horses.
The youths are also shown singing motivational songs. The CD shows youth as young as 12-year-old are being taught expertise in the use of artillery.
It is not clear as to how the CDs landed in Jammu and Kashmir. In recent times, there were reports that Al-Qaeda has made a foray into the Kashmir valley.
Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden is also shown delivering a speech and inspiring the youth to fight for the jehadi cause. While many knew about the terrorist outfit in the eighties and nineties, Al-Qaeda hogged the international limelight after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Tower in the US.
Al-Qaeda, an Arabic word meaning 'the Base', was founded sometime in 1988 by Osama bin Laden and Muhammad Atef, the latter a native Egyptian and a one-time member of the terrorist group Egyptian Islamic Jihad.
Al-Qaeda grew out of the Services Office, a clearing house for the international Muslim brigade that opposed the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
In the 1980s, under the leadership of bin Laden and the Palestinian religious scholar Abdullah Azzam, the Services Office recruited, trained and financed thousands of foreign mujahideen or 'holy warriors' from more than 50 countries.
Seeking to extend the Islamic jihad or 'holy war' beyond the borders of Afghanistan even after the March 1988 Soviet pledge to withdraw its forces, bin Laden created Al-Qaeda.
The organisation today supports Muslim fighters in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya, Tajikistan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, and Kosovo. It also trains members of terrorist organisations from the Philippines, Algeria and Eritrea.

TERRORISM: SUICIDE BOMBER'S 'WEDDING' TO FEATURE IN NEW TV SHOW
Dubai, 14 Sept. (AKI) - A new programme airing on al-Arabiya, the Dubai-based pan-Arabic network, will on Friday show rare footage of a mock wedding ceremony carried out for a suicide bomber on the eve of his terrorist mission. Known as The Martyr's Wedding - the young man is being symbolically wed to the 'virgin' that under Islamic teaching awaits him in heaven - it is also believed to be a form of moral encouragement by terrorist groups to encourage followers to conduct suicide operations.
The programme is the second in a new series on terrorism which examines some of the social, religious, political and economic factors that play into the terrorist phenomenon and boasts rare or previously unknown video footage.
The first episode, aired last Friday, discussed the backgrounds of the the three most wanted leaders of Al-Qaeda - Osama Bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi - revealing details that have never been shown through video footage and interviews with their relatives and friends.
The upcoming second episode, entitled "From Recruitment To Death", looks at how young people are being convinced to join extremist groups, and how they are being trained on weapons and in carrying out suicidal attacks.
There is also footage showing how and where members of those groups receive intensive training in explosives and in combat with various kinds of weapons.
The surprise of the show, according to al-Arabiya, will be a special interview with one of the former leaders of an extremist group - a friend of Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. The two co-founded an Islamic terrorist group in Jordan in the nineties, and spent four years together in jail. This former terrorist leader will be speaking of his experience as a prominent leader of a terrorist group until he reflected, repented and decided to reject violence and the murder of innocent people.

EGYPT: FBI HELPING AL-QAEDA HUNT, PRESS REPORTS
Cairo, 14 Sept. (AKI) - Egyptian intelligence officials are working with FBI agents on the investigation and hunt for alleged terrorists who infiltrated Egypt last month, according to opposition daily al-Wafd. The newspaper says the joint operation involves combing the entire area close to the Mediterranean coastal city of Alexandria, the suspects' likely entry point, and claims that the security forces have arrested eight people in recent weeks. The suspects, who are being detained, are accused of belonging to organisations based on religious ideologies.
The arrest of a suspected terrorist and the information gathered from his laptop, have shown that their targets were once again the tourist resorts on the Red Sea, security sources said.
More than 70 Egyptians were arrested earlier this month in and around Alexandria, while another group was detained in the Nile Delta town of Damanhur.
"They were arrested because they consulted Islamist websites linked to militant groups," said a lawyer representing the detainees.
The news reports of the presence of al-Qaeda operatives in Egypt have been met with scepticisim by many experts and analysts of Islamic terrorism.

Key Terror Leader Captured in Iraq; Security Focus in Baghdad Expands
By Donna Miles
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Sept. 14, 2006 Iraqi and coalition forces captured a key al Qaeda operative and some 70 more terror suspects in Iraq during a series of 25 raids in and around Baghdad Sept. 12, a senior Multinational Force Iraq spokesman told reporters in Baghdad today.
The raids netted a personal associate of Abu Ayyoub al-Masri, Army Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said. Masri took control of al Qaeda in Iraq after a U.S.-led air strike killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in early June.
While not revealing the detainees name, Caldwell called him the leader of assassination, kidnapping and IED (improvised explosive device) cells in Baghdad. He is known to have directly participated in numerous terrorist acts and to have contributed to sectarian violence throughout the city, Caldwell said.
In addition, the detainee played a key operational role in terrorist activities leading up to and during operations in Fallujah in November 2004, he said.
The Sept. 12 raids, which also netted dozens of other terror suspects and multiple weapons caches, is part of an ongoing effort to help secure Baghdad during Operation Together Forward, Caldwell told reporters.
Iraqi and coalition forces have been focusing on five specific neighborhoods that were experiencing the most sectarian violence. During the past two weeks, more than 150 focused operations resulted in 66 terrorists killed and 830 terror suspects detained, Caldwell said.
The focus expanded today into the Shaab and Ur neighborhoods, he said.
This approach appears to be working in the focus areas, where violence is down, Caldwell said.
However, he acknowledged that violence in other parts of Baghdad experienced a spike yesterday and noted that terrorist death squads are clearly targeting civilians outside the focus areas.
Overall, Baghdads level of sectarian violence has been reduced, he said, but remains above the levels of violence we saw before the Golden Mosque bombing in Samarra in late February.
Iraqi and coalition forces are working together to help bring these levels down, particularly with Ramadan just 10 days away. As we approach Ramadan, we know there is generally an increase in violence, and the government of Iraq has ongoing plans to address this, Caldwell said.
