Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - September 2006

Posted on 09/01/2006 8:57:29 PM PDT by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Five Years Later, We're Still Not Safe
-Full Story-

In the five years since terrorists flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Americans have accepted inconvenience, sacrificed personal liberties and paid billions of dollars for a security clampdown that touches virtually every aspect of their lives.

And we're still not safe.

A close examination of the federal government's homeland security effort shows that there have been major accomplishments since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. But it also reveals how vulnerable the nation remains to catastrophe.

Imam guilty of selling guns & ammo By GLORIA CAMPISI campisg@phillynews.com 215-854-5935

A man identified by authorities as a West Philadelphia imam has been convicted of selling numerous handguns and assault rifles from a clothing stand he operated at 52nd and Chestnut streets.

A spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office here said a federal jury yesterday convicted Wayne Hogue, 47, also known as "Imam Wadir" and Shahdeed Bay, of selling the weapons and ammunition, including hollow-point bullets, between May 9, 2003, and March 23, 2004.

Authorities identified Hogue as "an imam of the 52nd Street Mosque," for which an exact address was not provided, as well as a convicted felon, which prohibits him from possessing firearms.

The nature of Hogue's previous conviction was not disclosed.

Hogue could not immediately be reached.

"Evidence at trial included numerous audiotapes of Hogue selling firearms to a confidential informant," according to Richard Manieri, spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office. Sentencing is set for December.

The weapons included two Norinko 7.62 mm assault rifles - one loaded with 30 rounds; three Berettas; a disassembled 12- gauge shotgun with a 28-inch barrel; a Colt .45-caliber semi-automatic

How does this play into phase one of the "Plan"?

Not quite sure. Attacking ports? Attacking from ports?

Al Qaeda in Iraq Severely Disrupted, General Says

By Steven Donald Smith
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2006 – The killing of al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in June severely disrupted the terrorist organization’s capability, but foreign fighters entering Iraq continue to cause problems, a senior Multinational Force Iraq spokesman told reporters in Baghdad yesterday.
“What the al Qaeda in Iraq could do in May and what they can do today has been seriously degraded,” Army Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said. “They are not as effective or as organized today as they were back in May. But they're still an organization out there.”

The general said about 50 to 70 foreign fighters enter Iraq every month. “We know that most of them come from Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt and Syria,” he said.

Iraqi and coalition forces are capturing or killing between 30 and 50 of these foreign fighters per month, he said. “Today in Iraq there are currently 381 foreign fighters in detention,” he said.

Most of the suicide bombers in Iraq are foreigners, he said. “And therefore, the importance of securing the borders of this country becomes more paramount when you see that kind of infiltration occurring,” he said.

Caldwell said about 27,000 trained and equipped Iraqi border forces are operating on the country’s borders. “That is having a positive impact, but these are brand new forces that have just been trained,” he said. “They're just starting to operate out there, and it's going to take some time before we see the real benefit of their presence.”

The border forces are not just there to stop the infiltration of terrorists, but also to prevent any kind of smuggling or illegal transportation of anything across the borders, he said. Coalition forces continue to support the Iraqi border forces by providing aerial and ground assets. “There is a very close relationship between the coalition forces and the border security forces that are out there operating predominantly along the Syrian border and the Iranian border, since those seem to be the two places where we see the foreign fighters come from,” Caldwell said.

Coalition forces and the Iraqi government are striving to achieve three main goals. “Unity, security and prosperity are the ultimate three goals,” he said. Achieving these goals, however, will depend largely on Iraqi people and their elected government, the general added.

“Our ultimate goal for the coalition forces here in Iraq is to see an Iraq that is at peace with its neighbors, that has a country here that has a representative government that respects the rights of all Iraqi citizens, with security forces that are sufficient to maintain the security for the Iraqi citizens, and then to deny this country as safe haven for terrorists,” Caldwell said.

The general acknowledged that major challenges lay ahead for the Iraqi government. “They have to reestablish basic services for the citizens of Iraq. And when we say basic services, we're talking about electricity, water and sewage,” he said.

Caldwell also mentioned a letter from the president of the Islamic community of Kosovo that was recently published in an Iraqi paper. The letter explained the difficulties Kosovo had to overcome when transitioning from war-torn region to stability.

The letter talks about security, democracy, constitutional and privatization issues, Caldwell said. “The biggest challenge of all (in Kosovo), though, was reconciliation,” he said.

“He tells you to keep hope, to keep your faith, to not lose the fact that it's going to be hard and challenging, but in the end you will prevail and you will find the peace that they have found in Kosovo and what they have discovered there for their people,” Caldwell said describing the letter’s content.

“It's a very moving letter in that it's a very recent example,” the general said.

Following is a chronology of major statements attributed to Osama bin Laden, Zawahri or their allies this year. At least 36 messages have been broadcast since Al Jazeera aired the first statement by bin Laden in 2001.

Jan. 6, 2006 - Zawahri says in a video that U.S. President George W. Bush's plans to withdraw troops from Iraq means Washington has been defeated by the Muslims.

-- Jan. 19 - Bin Laden warns that al Qaeda is preparing new attacks inside the United States but says the group is open to a conditional truce with Americans, according to an audiotape.

-- Jan. 30 - Zawahri says he survived a U.S. air strike in Pakistan. The attack struck a village stronghold of pro-Taliban Islamists in Pakistan on Jan. 13.

-- April 23 - Bin Laden says Western efforts to isolate the Palestinian Hamas government and the Darfur crisis in Sudan are examples of the West's "crusader war" against Islam.

-- April 25 - A video of Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, is posted on the Internet, the first known tape to show an unmasked Zarqawi delivering an extended rallying address. Zarqawi was killed on June 7 in a U.S. air strike.

-- April 29 - Zawahri says in a video that hundreds of suicide bombers have "broken America's back" in Iraq.

-- May 23 - Bin Laden says in an audiotape that Zacarias Moussaoui had nothing to do with the 9/11 operations. The speaker says he personally assigned tasks to the 19 hijackers who staged the attacks.

-- June 1 - Zarqawi calls on fellow Sunnis to reject any reconciliation with "infidel" Shi'ites, in an audiotape.

June 9 - Zawahri urges Palestinians, in a video, to reject a referendum on a statehood proposal that implicitly recognises Israel.

June 22 - Zawahri vows vengeance against the United States for the death of Zarqawi in a U.S. air strike.

June 30 - Bin Laden praises Zarqawi as a "lion of jihad", and vows al Qaeda will continue to fight U.S. forces and their allies "everywhere", according to an Internet audiotape.

July 1 - Bin Laden warns Iraq's Shi'ite majority of retaliation for attacks on Sunni Arabs and says his group will fight the United States anywhere in the world.

July 7 - A year on from the London bombings, al Qaeda issues a video with comments from Zawahri, bin Laden and one bomber. Zawahri says bombers Shehzad Tanweer and Mohammad Sidique Khan had been trained in al Qaeda camps.

July 27 - Zawahri, in video statement titled "The Zionist-crusader war on Lebanon and the Palestinians", calls on Muslims to fight attacks on their countries.

Sept 29 - Zawahri calls U.S. President George W. Bush a "lying failure" for saying progress had been made in the war on terrorism. He also calls the Pope a charlatan because of his remarks on Islam.

"Writer of 'anti-Islam' article gets death threats"

On a radio talk show it was discussed how a certain diva attaches herself to a crucifix to create controversy for her present live show. The commentator said if she wanted to be really controversial, she'd use certain cartoon images as her backdrop.....instead she pushes the buttons that won't get her or her family killed.

Yep, political correctness is hazardous to your health.

IMHO political correctness is hazardous to the survival of the world as we know it, especially when it comes to the "homeland" security of free nations.

Thanks Cindy. Beautiful day today!

Pigs head dumped at London mosque at start of Ramadan

Snip: The head was found outside the Jamia Mosque in Newport, southeast Wales, on Saturday. The Koran strictly forbids Muslims to eat pork.

"We treat all incidents of hate crime seriously and are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry to identify the offender," said Gwent Police Superintendent Simon Prince on Friday.

Nobody at the mosque was available for comment but Sheikh Mohammad Thair Ullah, the chairman of the nearby Shah Poran Bangladeshi Jame Mosque, branded the incident "disgusting" and provocative.

"There is a good and bad in every community and I believe we have some young fanatics who could take this the wrong way," he said.

Gonzales cautions judges on interfering

Snip: Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who is defending President Bush's anti-terrorism tactics in multiple court battles, said Friday that federal judges should not substitute their personal views for the president's judgments in wartime.

He said the Constitution makes the president commander in chief and the Supreme Court has long recognized the president's pre-eminent role in foreign affairs. "The Constitution, by contrast, provides the courts with relatively few tools to superintend military and foreign policy decisions, especially during wartime," the attorney general told a conference on the judiciary at Georgetown University Law Center.

"Judges must resist the temptation to supplement those tools based on their own personal views about the wisdom of the policies under review," Gonzales said.

She publishes "clean" books for her children (she boasts about being an extremely strict parent) and yet continues to attempt to outdo herself acting skanky "entertaining" others.

O'Reilly featured a slot about Paris Hilton last night and her new video wherein she is a "teacher seducing a young boy..." NO amount of money can cure the lack of class in people.

I was just visiting with my 82 year old mother. She was terribly upset over the recent school shootings. Just couldn't understand what is happening with our "young people".

I told her it wasn't just the "young people". I cited Madonna, Congressman Foley; etc., etc.

There seems to be complete moral and ethical breakdown among so many. I don't understand it. I don't even want to understand it.

There's no Golden Rule anymore, no Religion allowed (except for the one that wants to eliminate the others), current music for the mostpart is disrespectful and vulgar, clothing for children borders on the hooker-pimp look and no need to marry (why bother - divorce is easy and frequent). Children are increasingly undisciplined and their parents seem more interested in their personal pleasures (why else all the fingernail and cellphone shops) then spending quality time with family and teaching the children the Golden Rule and introducing them to religion (full circle).
