Raise your hand if you believe in freedom of speech and a lively public debate of important issues.
Now, raise your hand if you think a feature film depicting the assassination of President Bush sounds like a thought-provoking look at the important issues of the day. Educational entertainment. A good date flick, maybe, for that hot librarian, the one with the fading "Unelect Bush Again in O4" bumper sticker who goes for that deep-think Brit Masterpiece Theatre stuff.
The BBC thinks so. Perhaps enviously eyeing the millions and the acclaim that self-loathing American Michael Moores exercise in distortion brought him, BBCs Channel Four and BBC Director Gabriel Range are producing a "shockingly real," "documentary-style" film that shows Bush being assassined by a Syrian at a large anti-war demonstration in Chicago.
The film is clearly highly fanciful, as anti-war demonstrations have had a hard time mustering more than a few hundred angry marchers at a time ever since their efforts to keep Saddam Hussein in power failed.
Heres what Range told the Times of London: "The film is based on meticulous research and interviews with FBI agents and people on the other side of the war on terror. "OK, we know that FBI agents have sometimes been on the other side of the war on crime, particularly in Boston. But the other side of the war on terror, if Im not wrong, would be Al Qaeda.
Wait a minute. I think by the "other side" he means us. Those of us who believe Al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the others who want to destroy us are evil.
"It is a serious and sensitive film. There is no way it would encourage anyone to assassinate Bush and usher in Cheneys America," Range said.
Of course not. Not at a time when Bush is routinely called a murderer, and seemingly normal educated suburbanite Volvo drivers sport "Impeach Bush" bumper stickers, apparently believing grounds for such action exists.
-snip-
The BBC wants to hawk this revolting bucket of bile in the United States. Its not clear to me what business foreign agents have advocating the murder of a sitting United States president, shouting fire in a crowded American theater. But America is a free country.
So I have an idea. How about a Hollywood blockbuster that depicts Britain under Sharia law?
Good idea:
How about a Hollywood blockbuster that depicts the US under Sharia law?
Movies are not always meant for education. I think everyone should know that. Depends on why the movie was made. Hard to comment on something we have not been able to view yet. I would say the likelihood of a Bush assassination is EXTREMELY high.
It's kind of pathetic, really, and the notion that it isn't wishful thinking on the part of a vicious, hateful political splinter just won't wash. Let me see, what are the elements - massive antiwar demonstrations (wet dream number one), the assassination of Bush (wet dream number two), a Middle Easterner framed for the act (wet dream number three) - all that's missing is a resolution wherein white separatist Christian fundamentalist Nazi Ku Klux Klan'ers sporting "Cheney-Rove '08" bumper stickers turn out to be the real villains. If by "thought-provoking" they mean mindless indulgence in hostility then I suppose it might work out, but there are a number of thoughts that simply aren't worthy of being provoked.
How about a Great big STFU to all the liberal idiots with their heads in the sand?
How about a film showing leftwing journalists being shot? There is an idea I'm sure the press would feel to be a bad one, but I'd go see it.
Disgustingly sick, perverted, twisted minds of the deranged leftist elitists who concoct such sewage and call it thoughtful film making. I see Michael Moore disease has spread to the Euro Brits....
"No weapon formed against GWB will prosper"....
Liberals are sick in the souls and literally in bondage from the forces of darkness.
But this is just a suspicion...
President Bush 'assassinated' in new TV docudramaThe two hour drama, in which events are 're-created' by the use of footage and interviews, shows the media storm around the War on Terror as Muslims are fingered as the culprits before there is any evidence.
In the wake of the assassination, authorities focus on a Syrian-born man in the search for the culprit.
'In the hunt for the killer, this will show how America has been affected by the War on Terror,' said a spokesman. 'It is about the polarisation of America in all the events post 9/11.'
Beyond the pale. And destined to backfire in terms of it enraging the American electorate if it gets any more publicity.
We may see that come to pass in the not-too-distant future....
Now we need a "what if Hillary were raped" story. Uck!
If you notice, they would never depict the assassination of a sitting monarch in England... it would predicate a speedy visit from some very nasty people...
I bet Hitlery, Bubba, Or Comrade Carter weren't even considered for this scenario in place of Bush.
Bush Derangment Syndrome in in purest form.
And just to be clear - it wouldn't be as a Hollywood blockbuster either!
Why reject Rudy in 2008?...because National Security should not be... held hostage to someone that will not enforce immigration laws...
At least they picked the right city.
Leave it to the sick tabloid style media of Britain to come up with something like this. Disgusting especially when the man is still in office.
I don't think this is entertaining either, much less educational. It is wishful thinking at worst. I can't imagine condoning this.
