Do you remember the scene in The Naked Gun where Leslie Nielsen, as police detective Frank Drebin, pretends to be a major league baseball umpire in order to be able to search the players to see who might be the assassin?
The very first pitch is dead over the heart of the plate, but Frank hesitates before finally, timidly, calling 'strike.' The crowd roars in approval. Frank gets a taste for the positive feedback, and by the third strike is bellowing out his calls, making flamboyant hand gestures, even doing a moonwalk.
A similar phenomenon might be occuring with Keith Olbermann. As noted here, in a closing 'Special Comment' on last night's show, he accused the Bush administration of representing "a new type of fascism." Daily Kos and Democratic Underground exploded in paroxsyms of joy, and deluged the show with thousands of approving emails.
Towards the top of tonight's show Olbermann profusely thanked his fans for their outpouring of praise. Now that he's experienced the complete and utter adoration of the netroots that comes with calling Bush & Co. fascists, Olbermann decided to do it again tonight.
With former Nixon counsel turned bitter Republican critic John Dean as guest, Olbermann proclaimed:
"Why is the administration on this Nazi and fascism terminology kick, especially given the fact that the rest of Mr. Rumsfeld's speech read like [fascist politician and Nazi collaborator] Quisling of Norway or Oswald Mosley of the British Union of Fascists? Is that not quite a rhetorical balancing act, to be so vicious in the terminology whilst embracing to some degree the methods of the [fascist] people you're supposedly criticizing?"
Bouquets, kudos and kisses from the Kosmonauts surely to follow. But where was the moonwalk, Keith?
MSNBC-Olbermann/NewsBusters fascism-redux ping to Today show list.
Olberman and his fans are cheering for the terrorists like those who cheered on the Nazis in the 30s.
Amin Al Husseini seen inspecting his Hanzar Division made up exclusively of Muslims, mostly from the Crotia/Bosnia/Serbia region. They actively lead the genocide against Serbs, Serbian Jews and Gypsies.
Amin Al Husseini meets with Adolf Hitler in November 1942, weeks before the decision to implement the Final Solution which sent Europe's Jews to the gas chamber. The Third Reich provided Amin Al Husseini with a salary and appointed him Head of the Hanzar SS Division. The Hanzar Division was made of Nazi Muslims and implemented the genocide of 250,000 Serbs, Gypsies and Jews during WWII.
Amin Al Husseini shown here on a Nazi poster recruiting fellow Muslims to join Hitler in the fight against the West and the Jews. His disciples today include Yasser Arafat, Saddam Hussein and the leaders of Hamas, Al Qeida and Islamic Jihad.
Amin Al Husseini, future President of the World Islamic Congress (1961) and founding father of the Arab League (1944) inspects his Muslim Nazi troops, the Hanzar Division. Amin Al Husseini making the traditional nazi salute.
Yasser Arafat became a disciple of Amin Al Husseini since the age of 17. Here: recent picture of Palestinian soldiers under the leadership of Arafat making the traditional Nazi salute.
WWII . Amin Al Husseini spent most of the war in Berlin. He was on Hitler's payroll as he lead the Hanzar Division of Muslim SS and played a lead-role in determining the fate of Europe's Jewish community.. From Berlin, Amin Al Husseini helped organize the transfer of Nazi officers into the Middle East

Excellent! You nailed it with this one.
Olbermann knows that his prime audience consists of DUers. He will do whatever childish thing makes them happy.
They are going right in the toilet, as far as ratings are concerned.
This is just a pathetic attempt to get some kind of attention.
Doesn't this Olberman freak only have a few thousand viewers?
He also mentioned communists, but then, he was talking about democrats throughout the speech.
Thanks, Jean!
Nothing new under the Sun.
Does this asshole even know who Quisling of Norway was?
And the number of people who listen to Olberman is:
10,000,000
5,000,000
1,000,000
500,000
100,000
not measurable
Great comparison!!! Olbermann really does seem to be in love with the sound of his own voice, with his own wit and wisdom. He thinks he's so darn funny. He must be basking in the glow of kudos from kooks.
Thanks, YaYa. Don't know how it came to me, but the analogy really struck me. Naked Gun is one of my favorite movies, although having OJ Simpson in it is creepy.
Did you hear Babs Boxer say that she is going to file a resolution to ask Bush to fire Rummy...and her reason is he is trying to "stifle descent"...not of her or TV reporters...
She said he is trying to stifle American citizens' descent...and she it going to attach it to the Defense Appropriations Bill next week...
Olberman is out of control. It's amazing that NBC keeps him on.
I did catch that. I'm sure it will be popular in the bluer parts of the country, but don't see how it's going to help the Dems win in November. Americans don't want to see Rumsfeld or W attacked like this.
