More4 risks US ire with Bush assassination film

Jason Deans, broadcast editor Thursday August 31, 2006 MediaGuardian.co.uk

Digital channel More4 will court controversy once again this autumn with a fictional piece, shot as a documentary, about the assassination of the US president, George Bush.

Death of a President seems certain to cause a furore on the other side of the Atlantic when it is premiered at the Toronto film festival next month.

In the UK the 90-minute film will be broadcast first on Channel 4's digital service in October.

The drama takes the form of a fictional documentary looking back at the assassination of Mr Bush in October 2007, after he has delivered a speech to business leaders in Chicago.

When Mr Bush arrives in the city he is confronted by a massive demonstration against the Iraq war and is gunned down by a sniper as he leaves the venue. The hunt for Mr Bush's killer focuses on a Syrian-born man, Jamal Abu Zikri.

Death of a President will use a combination of archive footage, CGI special effects and scripted scenes.

Actors play the fictional secret service agents and other aides who are with Mr Bush when he is shot and recall the incident in interviews recorded for the retrospective documentary.

Death of a President also looks at the differing viewpoints of the pro- and anti-Iraq war lobbies and the impact of Mr Bush's war on terror on the US.

Are you saying the porn industry lowered its standards when it did a Bill Clinton movie? Lol - I hadn't thought of it that way, but good point!

Now that you mention it...

"all of the liberals" in Team America were not the Elected Head of State of the United States.

Either you're inciting violence, or you're not.

Incitement to violence against even Bill Clinton is crossing the line for me.

I agree, except this film doesn't appear to be a direct incitement to violence that could be prosecuted.

Yep. Of course, should such a thing were to occur, all the libs would move to Canada (again) as Cheney would become president and we'd run out of asylum space from all the blathering liberals getting committed.

I agree. It all makes me sick. They honsetly hate him (and probably all who voted for him) more than terrorists. I encounter the hate in person from time to time, and it is shocking.

Why don't you trot out your "proof" that Gov/President Bush doesn't allow criticism? You are making the assertion, so prove it.
About a year or more ago here on FR you made claims that GHWB said something, and when I pressed you to show reliable sources you offered up garbage and then you vacated the discussion.

Simply alluding to sources doesn't cut it. Bust them out for examination.

IIRC, so far, there have been a painting (in my city), a play (NYC) and a book (I think it had just large text on the cover) in this country dealing with this sick fantasy.

I am disgusted with myself for some of what I am about to type.

I have tried to live my life without being consumed by hate. I dedicated much of my life in the service of others and tried to be there in their time of need. Like many, my eyes have seen things that no mans eyes should see, but somehow... by the grace of God, I made it through it all.

BUT, I can no longer hold back the hate I feel for these folks that want to destroy our Country and kill our children. I can no longer tolerate these freaks of nature that infest our society.

I see the making of this film as a direct threat to our President. I may be damned to Hell for this, but if our President is assassinated, I pray that some nut case will come out of the woodwork and raise havoc and personal destruction to each and every one of these freaks.

I would hate to see our Country resort to Civil War and I don't think that it will ever happen, but with each passing day, I suspect my convictions. I am ready to protect my own and those around me should such a terrible event begin. I pray that it never will, but it sure seems that the libs, MSM and dem leaders want it to.

God Bless President Bush....

Don't hate yourself for what you wrote.

Why should we be expected to embrace those who wish us (and actually deliver) harm, death, and destruction? Those who think we should embrace/accept these people are the ones with the problem, and the ones bubbling with hatred.

If I hear any man praising this film, I will break his jaw. If I hear any woman praising this film, I will pour a beverage over her head.
BS - break both their jaws. They want equal rights, give it to them.

Soros is the anti-Christ. I really wish everyone on this forum would do more reading on this guy. He goes into a country and tries to destroy it bit by bit. It's his money that is paying for a large majority of these liberal websites, organizations, etc.... Google him for yourself. He is pure evil and wants America to fail in the ME and stop being the superpower. He's not a natural born citizen of the US, he has denounced his religion, he wants a drug free for all, he has spread his $$ all over the world for abortion. This guy is evil!!!!!!

...that could be prosecuted.

You are correct there.

Consider though, you believe that it is okay for creative people to produce items on the topic of assassinating our president, and then in another comment on this thread you criticize President Bush for shielding himself from potential assassins. You cannot support both thoughts simultaneously and consider yourself a reasonable person.

I think the socialists/communists around the globe are trying to brain wash some kook liberal blogger into doing this. They keep "suggesting it" in different ways, hoping some left wing loon will take the hint.
They'd make him a hero. Cindy Sheehan fell into their trap and went crazy. Some liberal kook still living in his moms basement could be easily swayed to take the same chance to get a book or movie deal.

I don't believe it's okay. I just believe it's constitutionally protected.

shielding himself from potential assassins.

That is not shielding from potential assassins. It's about keeping contrary views out of the public eye as much as possible.

Reasonable is just another trait antirepublicrat lacks...and I am certain he has no problem in me saying this, after all I am just exercising my 'freedom of speech.' *wink*

Actuallly the media try to keep President Bush out of the public eye, electronically, as much as possible. The only way he gets his message out is in face to face meetings, and he is at risk of a kook killer every single day.

Yes, of course. *wink* back

I am making a study of opposing thoughts that people claim they hold simultaneously. Libs are so adept at this that they are not even aware that they are doing it. Reasonable is not a natural attribute of foes of President Bush.

One example, Bush is stupid, and Bush is so clever that he can manipulate gasoline prices. They can stipulate both points in the same argument.
