WILLIAMSPORT (PA) - A member of the honor guard that carried President John F. Kennedy's casket was sentenced to more than 4 years in federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography.
"I let a lot of people down," Richard Gaudreau, 70, of Bloomsburg, told U.S. Middle District Judge John E. Jones III yesterday before being sentenced. He reports to prison Sept. 12.
The sentence includes a $10,000 fine, lifetime supervision and a ban on associating with anyone under 18 without the presence of an adult.
Gaudreau must register as a sex offender and may not have a computer with an online connection without approval of a probation officer.
Gaudreau, then 27, was a staff sergeant and ranking noncommissioned officer at Bolling Air Force Base near Washington in November 1963. His polished boots are on display at the Air Force Honor Guard building at Bolling in recognition of his assembling a team to meet Air Force One when it landed with Kennedy's body at Andrews Air Force Base.
He was selected as the Air Force representative on a joint-services team to carry Kennedy's casket during funeral proceedings.
Gaudreau pleaded guilty in February and faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years, but prosecutors recommended a lesser sentence to reflect marginal cooperation.
A number of character references submitted to Jones came from people at the VFW in Bloomsburg, where Gaudreau has assisted with funeral activities since retiring from the Air Force in 1979 as a senior master sergeant.
The local paper, which is only available online by subscription, gave more details. The paper reports that the U.S. Attorney said that he sent 4 videos and a picture over the internet to an undercover FBI agent in Buffalo, NY; the images included a girl under the age of 3 engaged in sexually explicit acts.

I am personally accquainted with Gaudreau, I served in the AF Honor Guard from 63-67 with him.

I suspect this is a lifetime obsession, no 70 year old just wakes up and decides he likes little kids.
I never saw any indication that an
ything was wrong with him but that was a long time ago.

No he wasn't, we had MSgts and SMSgts, he wasn't even the senior SSgt. He was just the biggest ass kisser.
I still weigh the same as I did then. It's just distributed differently now.
I'll wager that the a$$es he was kissing back then were far more age appropriate than the ones that he fantasizes about kissing these days.
I remember that I did a previous thread about Gaudreau (can't remember exactly), and that you knew him; I just couldn't remember your screen name.
I sure hope for his sake that the Federal Pen that he goes to has an elderly wing, or else he's in for a rough 51 months.
