BRIDGEPORT, Conn. --A Fairfield lawyer has been charged with stabbing his neighbor to death after learning the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said.

Fairfield authorities said attorney Jonathon Edington leaped through 58-year-old Barry James' bedroom window Monday and stabbed him nearly a dozen times in the chest. Edington, 29, was arraigned on murder and burglary charges Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. He was held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 12.

He's sitting in the joint now (assuming the million bond wasn't posted), how about time served, record wiped after 1 year probation?

Well, let me put it this way to you, Steve-b. If I were sitting on this jury, and the facts determined that this lawyer's neighbor molested his daughter, then I would vote to set the lawyer free.

I would do it to send a message to the judicial and political powers that be that citizens are fed up with molesters and rapists and murderers systematically being set loose by a broken system to commit more heinous crimes.

How's that? Now: what the hell was your stupid point?

Thanks for that update.

This is going to take some time and who knows if the whole story ever really comes to light? I hope it does.

Blah, blah, blah.

I'm not sure whether your eloquence or your respect for the rule of law leaves me more underwhelmed. My instruments aren't calibrated to the sub-micron scale it would take to measure either.

Sounds like to me a case of "some folks just needed killin'".

I would agree with a kind of temporary justifiability. I don't know the exact circumstances in this case at this time, so it's hard to, for sure, say one way or the other how I would "judge" this man if I were on the jury. However, if this wasn't an "immediate" reaction, or if he wasn't in some other way impaired at the time (like drunk) then it would be much harder for me to excuse the father's behavior.

In Texas, this incident would fall under the "Your Honor, he needed killing" exemption.

I unfortunately have stood in this man's shoes so I do feel I have a pretty good idea of how he was feeling, and I still think he was wrong to do what he did...

You are right, the details are very important in this case. This article leaves too many questions frankly. The only way this would be justifiable to me would be in the situation you mentioned - having actually caught it going on and it being an immediate reaction... It would then be understandable, IMHO.

Interesting that they also charged him with burglary.

Might give a jury a graceful out.

I'm very sorry you ever had to deal with anything even remotely close to what this guy did.

The mystery to me is how did this man get access to the 2 year old?

I'm sorry you have been in his shoes and offer my prayers. Was there a conviction in your case? Was justice served in your opinion? Has the victim been able to recover or is that even possible?

There seems to be no problem. I don't hold attorneys in high esteem, but this fellow is the exception. He protected his child from further reprisal, something the justice dept. and law enforcement won't or can't do. A father should protect his own family. This is the only rememdy for a pedophile who will have a 100% repeat of his dastardly crime.

What this guy did is the most sane response I can think of.

Good question. Another fact that should be interesting when more comes out.

There's an update in post 137 which seems to indicate that the mother of the child told her husband that this man molested the child.
