Speaker of the House Nullified San Diego Congressional Race

It appears the US media overlooked one of the great political stories of the year. In what is becoming something of a pattern, here’s a brief chronology:

On June 6, 2006 Republican Brian Bilbray allegedly slightly outpolled Democrat Francine Busby in the special election for California’s 50th Congressional District, despite Busby’s lead in the polls going into the election. There were immediate cries of foul following the election due to major irregularities, including electronic voting machines sent out to the homes and cars of volunteers for up to 12 days prior to the election, and irregular election results like huge mega-precincts of absentee ballots where turnout was thousands of percent more than registered voters.

On June 13, 2006, Bilbray flew to Washington, DC and was sworn in as a member of the United States House of Representatives by House Speaker Dennis Hastert.

...

The election became an immediate cause for citizens, supporters of the losing candidate, and national voting rights activists. The results were also challenged by Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

When I saw this pop up on the Netscape "HOT Stories" with the source being nz I knew it would be a howler and it didn't disappoint.

Anyhow, the fact that the opponent was Francine "you don't need papers to vote" Busby probably had nothing to do with the election results. It was all about disenfranchised voters and the evil Diebold machines.

As I recall (since I was there) this Busby woman said illegals could and should vote.

The result was that American citizens turned out in vast numbers to vote for the Republican.

She cut her own political throat.

And she wasn't in the lead in any polls on election day anyway.

Oh please, what elections don't Democrats claim "massive irregularities" around anymore? It's become their modus operendi because their arrogance and psychosis tells them no one could possibly not want to vote for them. Spare me.

Now this childish tactic is taking hold with their socialist brothers abroad as we're seeing in Mexico. It's gotten tired and it's got to stop. Someone needs to say to them as they busily work to undermine confidence in the democratic process, "Sirs, do you have no shame?"

I wish congress would actually use this power and refuse to seat people who come to claim the votes of dead people.

The results were also challenged by Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

And anything this psychotic boob does automatically lends legitimacy to the effort? Democrats have settled on a plan whereby they question and smear any election result that doesn't favor them in the hope it will weaken the mandate and ability to lead of whatever Republican beats them. It's a shameless, frankly evil tactic that undermines confidence in the electoral process. They need to be called on it. But don't like to their friends in the media to do so. I can't imagine for a minute of the GOP stooped so low as to adopt such a cynical ploy the media wouldn't call them a party hopelessly adrift and devoid of ideas or legitimacy. Such is the state of the Democratic party today and few are willing to point out how antics and fever swamp conspiracy nonsense shows just how low they've fallen. By the way, I think it's a riot how they rely on polling to say how an election should have turned out, as if polling is always reliable, not to mention to fact no poll I ever saw showed Busby in the lead.

"Oh please, what elections don't Democrats claim "massive irregularities" around anymore?"

The Dems here in Michigan just nominated a candidate for Secretary of State, which is the person who handles election issues.

Of course, this person (black lady) was harping on how you don't need photo ID for "equal protection under the law" and therefore you shouldn't need one to vote. Hard to argue with that sort of logic, right?

And, her other issue is that the incumbent certified the Affirmative Action amendment proposal (to kill A-A) in spite of what she asserts was massive voter fraud.

Yeah, if you can't win, then it must be because the deck is stacked. Uh huh.

In their defense (and no, I'm not siding with Howie) shouldn't Denny have waited until the results were certified? Or were they just stalling?

They're a sick, sick party. Truly. Dementia is running rampant among those people, I honestly believe that.

Exactly. The irregularities were brought on by the Busby camp.

the evil Diebold machines

The machines that were stuffed down California's throats by the liberal left because 'people were being disenfranchised by punch ballots.' The evidence? That people didn't vote in races! These were used by the ACLU as evidence of disenfranchisement - people skipped races!

Liberals.

You're absolutely right. It's an amazing thing to watch Democrats lose; first they blame everyone else but themselves for their demise...and then they do all they can to change (i.e rig) the system. I noticed on Fox yesterday that the Democrats have begun to intentionally target the Secretary of State races so they can have more "control" over the electoral process.

Of all the things I despise about the Democrats, this is one of the most dangerous. Just as many of them have undermined Bush and the WOT, so have they the democratic process. When historians write the history of these years, they should note that the dissent and disorder against Bush didn't begin in Iraq or over the WOT; it began on election night when the Democrats decided for the first time in US history to de-legitamize (is there such a word?) the election of a Republican president.

Shortly after the last vote was cast, citizens discovered disturbing facts. Prior to Election Day, several poll workers had taken home voting machines for periods of a day to a week at a time without supervision or even consistent tracking procedures.

I am a resident and frequent poll worker in the 50th Congressional District. Almost all voting machines were taken home by poll workers. I had them at my home. This is necessary to allow the machines to be taken to the many polling places in a timely manner.

What is incorrect is that there are no "tracking procedures. The machines are sealed and the seals are inspected by the other poll workers. Also, a zero count ballot count is printed out and inspected before any votes are cast. This zero count print-out is left with the rest of the printed ballot tracking tape and sealed with the rest of the ballot information delivered to the registrar of voters.

Before the use of electronic voting machines paper ballots or punch card ballots were also taken home by poll workers and delivered to the polling place with less tracking than is done with the electronic machines.

Ever since Al Gore raised his 2000 election stink the Dems have been casting aspersions on the ballot process. This is causing people to lose faith in our election procedures and is one of the most deplorable aspects of the Dem party.

PS, there was never any problem with punch card ballots (see post #12)

Well put. The Democratic party is becoming increasingly lawless. They are little more than a mafia now.
