Rosa Brooks: No Escaping Sexualization of Young Girls With JonBenet back in the headlines, it's hard for a parent to avoid paranoia. August 25, 2006

IT'S BEEN a good week for the media, and a bad week for parents.

The arrest of former schoolteacher John Mark Karr in the slaying of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey launched a flurry of excited stories about pedophiles, child abduction and murder. The cable news stations could hardly hide their glee, and even the New York Times joined in.

In a two-part series on pedophilia, the newspaper reported that many pedophiles now use Internet support groups to swap how-to tips on getting jobs as camp counselors and teachers. Increasingly, the Times said, "pedophiles view themselves as the vanguard of a nascent movement seeking legalization of child pornography and the loosening of age-of-consent laws. They portray themselves as battling for children's rights to engage in sex with adults…."

Great. For anxious parents, it was a week of being paranoid and creeped out — a week to double-check the....

In a culture in which the sexualization of childhood is big business — mainstream mega-corporations such as Disney earn billions by marketing sexy products to children too young to understand their significance — is it any wonder that pedophiles feel emboldened to claim that they shouldn't be ostracized for wanting sex with children? On an Internet bulletin board, one self-avowed "girl lover" offered a critique of this week's New York Times series on pedophilia: "They fail, of course, to mention the hypocrisy of Hollywood selling little girls to millions of people in a highly sexualized way."

....we should worry a whole lot more about good old-fashioned American capitalism, which is busy serving our children up to pedophiles on a corporate platter.

I admit that I was astonished when Wendy Murphy yesterday mentioned the Boulder Police reports indicated that they suspected the Ramseys of child pornography, and she speculated that possibly this John Mark Karr could have been their kiddie porn distributor.

Rosa Brooks sounds like a very smart lady - and brave to face the hollywood perverts and other progressives that way.

Even FOX reporters seem to salivate over the toddler-in-adult-makeup sex pictures.

Putrid state of affairs in America.

The Mslim way to legalize child sex is to pretend to be prude about sex and then turn around and use rape as punishment.

Someone on Fox News was just commenting that his one year old twin daughters just received a gift of leopard print miniskirts.

He was NOT impressed, and did NOT think it was "cute", and when he protested, it caused a huge family rift!

Those little girls are lucky to have such a dad.

I was surprised only to hear that the police 'admitted' it. I had gotten a creepy vibe from them from the start, and this is one of the things I suspected. I hope it's not true, but it would help explain Mr. Ramsey's odd reactions to the arrest of Karr.

I might also explain several other things, including where his money came from...

Good news. The next big fashion trend is "Le Cover-Up." You daughters won't be showing midriffs, they'll be wearing their jeans under their skirts and dresses. It's already in the malls.

Not as hard as it sounds. We don't have cable. We only watch pre-screened videos. We homeschool.

The big downside, I have to go over to my dad's house to watch football games, which I like doing anyway.

hypocrisy of Hollywood

Sleazywood is hypocritical. Always has been; always will be. We KNOW that, those of us with a modicum of brains. It's all over the movies, the boob-tube and their accompanying rags. Most everyone buys into Sleazywood. They ignore the stereotypes of movies and T.V. and actually LOVE the shows where the heroines are always young attractive women....even though the parts OBVIOUSLY would have much older women in them.
I was just watching a Bond movie last night--Die Another Day Typical. Bond is 50 and the Bond girls are all 20-something. The new twist is that they also are spies and Bond-types. Haley Berry was a U.S. agent with as much knowledge, experience, etc., as Bond. Harhar. So stupid.
They sell sex to make money. It's so simple and Sleazywood has never been different. It was just better covered up in the past, as so many things were.

Pornography is now packaged in a slicker way. And it's always been about young, pretty, well endowed white women, with an occasion kink to young, pretty, well endowed minority women.
Now we see porn with minority men and the young, pretty, well endowed women, preferably white women.

A typical 10-minute "love" scene shows 9 minutes and 50 seconds of the woman's body and face, with full sounds effects from her and 10 seconds of the man's body, usually his butt and hands, and from him, silence.

All men buy into it, naturally.
All young women (under 40) buy into it too because they see themselves there.

It's only us older women who see it the way it is. It's not jealousy or envy, as young women will say. It's not about being older, as men will say.
It's about seeing women and sex sold to the highest bidder, demeaned and diminished for money.

Women, mostly those younger women, keep whining about no respect from men or other women. Lol. What DO they expect when they have no respect for themselves?
It's an age-old lesson that women never, ever will learn until they get older and stop being the "object of men's affections."

The entire industry of little girls and sex, that is, beauty pageants, pornography, Barbie dolls, hooker-fashion for girls (the clothes that teen girls wear now), thanks to the sleaze-markets of the rag industry, are all marks of our decadence....our distance from our faith.
The faith of our fathers.....

When you see it in that way you can understand why Mel Gibson's the Passion of Christ was despised, detested, loathed and hated so much by Sleazywood and accomplices.

My two cents.

"The Mslim way to legalize child sex is to pretend to be prude about sex and then turn around and use rape as punishment."

Unfortunately, the muslim way to treat girls who are not born into elite families is to marry them off (pre-pubescent) to 35 year old men. It's a disgrace!

"They fail, of course, to mention the hypocrisy of Hollywood selling little girls to millions of people in a highly sexualized way."

While it's unfortunate this happens, it doesn't make anyone commit sick acts. Crimes like this happened long before modern media. I don't care how many images of "sexualized" children you show me. I don't look at it and think...."wow, that's hot." It takes an especially twisted person to arrive at that conclusion.

I was out in Vegas a couple weeks back, and I was astonished at what I saw. Not the adults. I expected that. What was so disturbing was the utter lack of parental common sense in what they let some of these pre-teen girls wear at the pool. I wanted to find their parents and wring their necks, but - surprise surprise - they weren't around to monitor their kids. Absolutely disgusting.

P will be the next letter added to the GLBT alliance. The dirty little secret is that P is already a subheading under G. Homosexuals pretend to condemn this practice while performing such acts in the closet. Next in line will be the I and then the B.

Equally tacky, imo. I've seen it for about a year in our area.

BINGO! Starfish923 it's really nice to know that I'm not the only woman who has noticed this. When will parents start teaching their girls to be respectfull of themselves and boys to be respectfull? You reap what you sow......

I just did a google search on "child modeling." Something is strange.

There are loads of sites for things like "make your child a star." But, one of the MSNBC stories was a virtual "how-to" find the sexual child modeling sites.

What was the purpose of that article?
