If the U.S. pulls out of Iraq one of the consequences could be a Turkish offensive against the Kurds all the way into Northern Iraq.

LOL

They probably get a tickle out of the way we folk say things - English being their "first" language and all...

Holidays do not fit the programming standards of so-called "news channels", who are intent on "infotainment" and slanted coverage of war activity that is renamed as anything but "war" depending on who is paying the propaganda bill at the moment.

Brits choosing to holiday in theaters of upheaval or actual battle are carrying on an old "stiff upper lip" tradition of Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead! Are'nt we a plucky Lot?...a transparent cover for damn fools.

They get what they deserve.

The United States should consider renaming the language American. There are episcopalians, after all, rather than Anglicans.

That would be a probable option. Which option would start with A? Azerbaijan?

We say some rather delightfully odd things, including the use of the word 'one' for I''.

On the other hand we are always amused by American who tell us that they have 'done' London and intend to 'do' Scotland.

Locally we have a habit of saying we will be be somewhere or do something "now in a minute". That just about confuses everyone.

Scarcely a recent usage. The first examples of "to make holyday" rercorded in the OED are from 1526 (Wynken de Worde) and 1592 (William Warner)! So very much part of the common heritage of the language rather than a modern aberration (if you see it that way) of English English.
