I agree with him,and some of the other posters,It would not be so bad if the intelligent articulate contributing members of society were the ones having more children .That is not the case !Average amount of children born to an 33 year old unmarried woman in the 9th ward of N.O is 5 .I had 2 children 1 to replace husband, 1 to replace me.Spent tons of time before age of 5 teaching to read ,write and think, and not just that but to value our surroundings, animals, plants, nature and history.I watch huge tracts of land every day stripped to bare dirt ,for another cookie cutter subdivision ,metal buildings lining the highway with junk cars, used washing machines, worn out tires, and just about everything else you could name.I live in the #62 fastest growing county in the U.S and the very things people moved here to get away from are showing up,and the things they moved here for are disappearing!

"I happen to agree with Dr. Doom."

You, just like Dr. Doom, have no problem with mass human extinction as long as you are one of those to "hang around" and show how good stewards of the planet should behave. "Do as I say not as I do" I'm sure is your motto.

Where is the context about where the world's population is exploding? It sure as heck isn't in any first world country. But it sure IS in any Islamic country along with most third world countries. There is a reason they call them developing nations.

"are going to get better after the collapse because humans won't be able to decimate the Earth so much."

Note that contemporary academia's most acclaimed, award-winning poster boys don't know what the word "decimate" means.

Paul Ehrlich was wrong and so is this guy. Famine isn't caused by "overpopulation." It's caused by dictators like Mugabe who steal the land from the farmers and kick them out of the country.

I happen to agree with Dr. Doom. We DO have way too many people on this earth. Years ago, I wrote a college term paper in which I said that I would like to have seen the earth before man appeared. Surely, it would have been a more beautiful place.

"Beauty" is a term humans invented to describe their own feelings about what's out there. Would a squirrel, struggling to survive on an earth without humans, appreciate its environment? The whole idea of environment, and stewardship of it, is a human invention. Ever other species breeds without limit until the number of individuals dying of starvation or predation equals the number born. Nature is at that point in "balance".

We DO have way too many people on this earth.

If you truly believed that, you would remove yourself from this planet as quickly as possible.

"This is not politically correct stuff," he acknowledged, sitting in the cluttered university office he has worked in for 38 years.

Yes it is! It is the most politically correct idea.

He should start by killing himself.

The Doomslayer is an excellent article about Julian Simon, the business professor who challenged Ehrlich to a bet on whether resources would be more or less expensive (and thus more or less scarce). One should be careful about allowing oneself to be compared to Ehrlich, et al.

U.S. government has it all wrong: It should be taxing people for having children, not rewarding them with tax breaks.

And some socialist hasn't crucified him for this? I would think making reproduction a perk of the plutocracy (their words not mine) would be elitist in the extreme.

You obviously don't get out much or live in a crowded city. I live in Idaho. Extremely low density. You can drive down roads for miles and see nothing but the natural environment. A trip from San Diego to Pocatello on I-15 will expose you to massive expanses of totally uninhabited land. Likewise a trip from Lincoln, NE to Salt Lake City down I-80. I had to drive from Birmingham, AL to Salt Lake City, UT to escape Hurricane Ivan. I was amazed at the expanses of vacant land in it's pristine state.

Sooner,
Drive through Wyoming, Montana or more than 100 miles north of the Caandian border .... there is PLENTY of room on this planet for people.

Everyone else got pinged to this to show how to make any population bomb propaganda spouter look lik an idiot.

Here's a map you need to take a look at

See all those green and gray areas? There are no crowds, plenty of wilderness and PLENTY of room to live in.

I hate to say it but you just triggered a "ZOT!" from the Viking Kitties! Unfortunatly, this Viking Kitty crossed the BiFrost Bridge up to Vahalla today but I figure she is good for one more ZOT! As you can see, she ran on 120 volts, 60 cycles AC power as well as internal batteries.

Thanks. She just turned 19 last week. For the last month, she had fluid on the lungs and there were indications of lymphatic cancer. We were going to treat it using cortisone shots to reduce the tumor(s) but it was a bit too late. B-( She had a hyperactive thyroid too but we kept that under control with meds. Yeah, she was a tough one to lose, having her for 19 years, what is tougher, I lost another cat 4 months ago to kidney failure but in his case, we has only 5 years old. Losing two so close is really tough, plus I almost lost a third in May but we pulled him through. I have six cats now.

"We should have done something about our population 25 or 30 years ago,"

"We" DID do something, or rather they did, Dr. Doom and his ilk:

They convinced the members of MY generation that the earth was being overpopulated, we were running out of resources, Oh doom!

So we, the intelligent, educated, moral white folks, stopped having kids, or had far fewer than our parents' generation.

Meanwhile, (a) the Dr. Dooms of the world were as wrong about this as they are about everything else; and
(b) the other demographics kept right on pumping out offspring.

So now whites are a minority in Texas.

My generation was sold a line of crap by the "Dr. Dooms" of this country, and I'm angry about it.

It was real pertinent to point out that he had air conditioning in his house! I think this guy makes sense.
