Poll indicates Crist-Gallagher race tightening
A Florida chamber poll has Crist's lead down to 10 points, with 29 percent of voters undecided in the GOP gubernatorial race.

Jeb Bush disagrees with you. He has said repeatedly (as recently as last week) that Charlie Crist is a conservative. Conversely, he has said that GALLAGHER is a liberal. During Gallagher's last unsuccessful bid for Governor, Jeb Bush said, "He [Gallagher] makes Lawton Chiles look like a conservative."
(This comment from Bush was in response to Gallagher comparing Jeb Bush to Fidel Castro.)
By no means am I saying Crist is perfect, but at least he is consistent. Gallagher is a scumbag who repeatedly cheated on his wife, used cocaine as a state legislator (as documented by his ex-mistress), is currently under investigation for violations of state ethics charges, has described himself as adamantly pro-choice in the past, has supported an assault weapons ban, supported the largest tax increase in Florida (the state services tax), supported an additional 1% sales tax for prisons, supported registration of all bullet sales, supported banning gun ownership under the age of 21, strongly opposed school vouchers, etc., etc.
And now, after all of this, we are just supposed to take his word that he is a changed man and has found God? Give me a break. With all due respect, a man with as many personal issues in the past as Gallagher does not deserve to be Governor of Florida. Take a look at his tax records that he had to release in order to run for Governor. Take a look at how much he tithed to his church, and tell me if he is now a devout Chrisitian. (He gave a total of $2,600 in 2005 to his church, as per his tax returns). Tom Gallagher is all talk. Crist is not perfect, but at least he is consistent.
Throughout his career Crist has been a fighter for innovative, positive change. As a state senator, Crist fought for and passed the STOP (Stop Turning Out Prisoners) legislation that required prisoners to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences.
He also co-sponsored legislation to implement the charter schools bill, which gives parents the freedom to pick the best schools for their children.
As commissioner of education, Crist supported early reading programs to better prepare children to read at grade level when they enter school.
As attorney general, Crist helped draft, and worked to pass, tougher price gouging and looting laws; supported stronger penalties for identity thieves; and spearheaded landmark legislation requiring prescription drugs to be tracked from the manufacturer to the pharmacy to ensure drug safety.
He also created an innovative program to aid victims of domestic violence, and was named the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence's 2005 Advocate of the Year.
He has vowed that as governor, he will promote business in Florida and appoint conservative, not activist, judges to the courts. Despite Gallagher's claims to the contrary, Crist is solidly pro-life and supports a constitutional amendment to define marriage as being between a man and a woman.
Significantly, polls have consistently showed that Crist is the stronger GOP candidate, and he would fare better against either of his Democratic rivals, Rep. Jim Davis and state Sen. Rod Smith, in the general election to replace outgoing Gov. Jeb Bush.
One recent poll revealed that in a head-to-head match-up, Crist outpolled Davis 48 percent to 32 percent, compared to Gallagher's margin of 41 percent to 38 percent. Against Smith, Crist won by 18 percentage points; Gallagher led by only 10.
Crist has also won an impressive list of endorsements. Recently Sen. John McCain expressed his support for Crist, as did the National Rifle Association, whose past President Marion Hammer said "no one has been stronger" than Crist in support of Second Amendment, self-defense, and anti-crime issues.
Other endorsements have come from Sen. Mel Martinez, Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and Jeff Miller, the Police Benevolent Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Florida Association of State Troopers, the Cuban American Veterans Association, and the Florida Nurses Association, as well as 46 members of the Florida Legislature and 28 county sheriffs.
Gov. Jeb Bush promised to remain neutral in the race and has not endorsed a candidate. But NewsMax believes Charlie Crist is the best candidate to continue Gov. Bush's legacy in Tallahassee and keep Florida among the most prosperous states in the Union. -------------------------------------------------------
OK, that's what NewsMax had to say -- I only met Crist once, and I liked him. I also don't appreciate the lies and innuendoes put out by the Gallagher camp... If you want more reasons after reading all of this - I'll give you more.
Please see post #62
Charlie does NOT support gay adoption - did you hear the debate or do you just like to spread lies? I mean, really, did you hear the debate? I want to know.
I seriously doubt Rome2000 got that idea from where you claim, or anywhere else for that matter. Rome2000 never said that Jesus is liberal.
I love that picture. You can tell they belong together.
The same could be said about the picture of Tom and Laura too.
Lol - I see the Crist campaign is grasping at straws.
I think I said about twenty times so far that Gallagher was a moderate until he had a kid. Since 1998 Tom has been a consistant and constant supporter of all conservative causes. Charlie has supported none and thwarted many.
You bring up what was said in 94 when Gov Bush was challenging Gallagher in the primaries and when Tom was a moderate. This is laughable for the above reasons.
However, even then Tom Gallagher was not for gay adoption, "civil" unions and outrageous spending proposals. It is Charlie Crist who now makes Lawton Chiles look like Alan Keyes - of course I wish Keyes a longer life.
Charlie Crist a conservative? Yes, a real conservative. He's for gay adoption, he's condescendingly for civil unions ("I'm a live and let live guy.")and for record spending. A stand-up conservative in the mold of Barney Frank, Maxine Waters and Ralph Nader.
His use of the term "Reagan conservative," a term that every liberal RINO is using now makes me sick. Reagan would have had a field day with those guys (something similar to his 'I know immitation is the best form of flatery, but this is grand larceny' comment).
His commercials are now just plain desperate and sick. Tom Gallagher a tax man because Gallagher has a more broad based tax saving incentive than Crist's homestead raise? Tom and Gov. Bush fought the bullet train. Charlie advocated for it. Tom and Gov. Bush fought the ridiculous classroom ammendment that encourages laziness and does nothing to raise standards . Charlie advocated for it. Tom and Gov. Bush fought the slot machine proposal that would increase crime while failing to actually provide any money to education. Charlie advocated for it. Charlie's the one who's promising $5,000 a year for every adopted child until they turn 18, something he knows won't even pass, showing his dishonesty as well as his fiscal recklessness. All of this would lead to unimaginable taxes.
All this leads any rational person to conclude that Charlie Crist is the tax man.
Lol - Although he has not gone on the record at any time opposing gay adoption he was asked during a recent radio interview regarding his views on gay adoption. His response, "I'm fine with that."
I guess he's really fine with that because he wants to give every adoptive couple $5,000/child/yr - and that would include gays as he's in favor of changing the law. Sounds great for the vaseline industry.
It seems that some posters don't know the difference between gay marriage - which Charlie won't support unless it gets more popular - and gay adoption which he already supports.
You bring up all of the citizen sponsored initiatives (slot machines, bullet train, class size) and say that "Crist advocated for it." Are you implying that by filing briefs in front of the Florida Supreme Court in his capacity as the state's attorney general that he "advocated for it?" That's the only way that your above post could possibly make any sense. He did NOT support those amendments, and if you disagree, please post a link.
By the way, are you still insisting that Crist is pro gay adoption, even after he has said he opposes gay adoption? Finally, I have no idea what this $5k for adopted kids is all about. If you have any details about it, please share them. Otherwise, relax, I'm sure it's not a tax increase. If it were, the Gallagher campaign would be blasting him for it. (which they are not)
This is a BLATANT LIE and you know it. Crist OPPOSES gay marriage and has signed the statewide petition for a constitutional amendment to make marriage between a man and woman. Saying that he supports (or will support) gay marriage is a lie.
He has also said he opposes adoption by gay couples. http://www.tbo.com/news/politics/MGBYW9H67RE.html
Charlie Crist recently appeared on a progressive radio program in Miami andannounced he is open to the idea of gay adoption.During the same interview, Charlie Crist said gay civil unions are fine.

You guys come on and say that he's pro-life when he himself says he wants the law to stay the same (albeit he did say "I'm pro-life, I'm just for Roe v Wade to stay in place.") You guys say he's against gay adoption when he himself just said in a radio interview that he's for it and has said nothing to the contrary. You say he's a tax cutter when he openly advocates some of the biggest spending measures imaginable, often surpassing those supported by the Dems.
You bring up Gallagher's positions in 1994, still far more conservative ones than any espoused by Charlie Crist, and portray them as recent opinions, despite the fact that Gallagher has not only been a steadfast conservative since 1998 but he openly admits being a moderate before then and has gone into detail about what changed his views.
Your candidate runs around calling himself a "Reagan Republican," all the while supporting gay unions, gay adoption and record spending. Yet we're the ones who are "spreading lies and innuendoes." Go soak your head!
I'm not from the "Gallagher camp." I'm just fed up with liars and liberal who are trying to take the GOP in Florida and turn it into a second Democrat Party.
The only honest poster from your camp was MonroeDNA who openly admitted that he rejoiced when Terri was starved. The rest of you have repeated the same lies over and over in spite of irrefutable evidence.
Did you or did you not hear your candidate, the upstanding "conservative" condescending express his support of "civil" unions, insinuating that those who do not are "closed minded" and won't "let people just live their lives?"
Did you or did you not hear your candidate express support for amnesty while half hazardly trying to dodge the issue?
Did you or did you not hear your candidate falsify his record on taxes?
Did you or did you not hear your candidate make outrageous spending promises, that even he knows would never pass, allowing the Dems to rightly paint him as both reckless and a liar should our party have the misfortune of having him as our nominee?
He's a louse, and I can provide many more examples. So by all means continue to expose yourselves.
In all fairness, a recent poll showed Crist up 10 points. However, from what I hear, this is a lot closer than either of the campaigns' internal polls have the race. Several more polls are out this week which are likely more reliable than the recently quoted Florida Insider poll.
Count me in too as I'm voting for Gallagher. I just don't trust Crist.
Thanks for confirming that this is just a personal grudge on your part. Next time, ping her.
You're either the most uninformed poster on this board or an out and out liar. Based on your refusal to accept cold hard facts when presented with them as well as the distortions you've put forth on board, even after being refuted it's clear to me that you're the latter as opposed to the former. Not surprising for Team Crist.
I'm saying he supports the initiaves because "he advocated for them in his capacity as Attorney General."
No you nitwit. I'm saying he supports those initiatives because he said so during the debates.
"He's never supported gay adoption. He's come out against it."
Really????? Wrong again. In a recent radio interview he said he's "fine with it." Google it!
Don't know what I'm talking about when I refer to the 5K per couple per child PER YEAR?? He never said it because Team Gallagher would "be blasting him for it????"
Guess you weren't watching the debate. I think there's a rerun on tonight. You might want to watch it and see just what kind of puke you're supporting. Just one word of advice. Bring lots of kleenex. Your candidate won't be the only one sniveling (or do you again not know what I'm referring to because "Team Gallagher" didn't make hey of that either)?
Note to other Freepers: Isn't it amazing how thoroughly inept these trial lawyers, who are away all week and spend their Sundays fielding for their trial lawyer candidate on the boards, are at making a coherent argument.
What was Crist snorting during the debate? Somebody should tell him needles are quieter.
