Scientific definitions of "pregnancy" are irrelevant since science cannot determine the point of actual conception

LOL!!! I needed a good laugh this morning. I suggest you put down the Bible and pick up a biology book.

So in a crude generalization, this would act as a 'chemical' condom (ie prevent fertilization - but not implantation, should fertilization have already occurred). I'm I right?

As though every 14 year old won't have access to Plan B. It's a sad day for Planned Parenthood and other abortion mills.

"An embryo isn't even a blob of flesh. In fact, a pre-implanted fertilized egg doesn't even qualify as an embryo."

Sorry Lunatic. You are joining sides with the illogical left on this one.

If a fertilized egg is not an embryo, what do you call embryonic stem cells?

Nope. Just not betrayed by a President and an Administration that has done a lot for the pro life movement.

That's not true in my experience. Lots of us take those serendipitous babies as blessings. We wouldn't/don't even consider abortion as an option.

Nope, it isn't. Planned Parenthood is going to make big money of this, because they will be a major distributor of Plan B.

Not being qualified as a doctor or scientist, I'm unable to comment on the medical complexities of this issue.

I do know one thing, however. No matter which side is correct, the pill will be viewed right off the bat by most of the conservative base as a tool FOR abortion. Few minds will ever be changed.

I'm afraid that the social Right vote is largely down the drain for the Republicans in the next election. They'll just stay home.

Is there any conservative or Republican group remaining that hasn't been squandered by this administration? The anti-immigration voters?....... the fiscal restraint voters?.......those opposed to the McCain campaign finance "reform" bill?........the pandering to the Katrina Korps?.......rescuing Hezzbollah?......billions for AIDS in Africa and more for rebuilding Lebanon when it may be knocked down again or controlled by a terrorist administration?......

I'm really grumped out this morning.....just shaking my head at strange national policy at play.

The Republican timing on this pill issue is impeccable.....as usual.

Oh, btw, when this was intitally posted, it was under breaking news. If this isn't breaking news, I don't know what is. The owners and mods can run this forum as they wish, but if social issues are given less of a priority than other issues, then how conservative is this site?

It's not breaking news, read the site guidelines.

And your subheadline of "Bush Adminstration Betrays Social Conservatives" was a sad attempt to illicit a negative response against Bush, who had nothing to do with this decision.

The committees that make these determinations are made up of physicians with decades of experience... in other words, people much smarter than you and I put together.

The EC pill is not a chemical abortion, it prevents implantation similar to an IUD's secondary funtion. This will reduce the number of abortions in America, which I thought was the goal of the Religious Right (guess I was mistaken).

The two are completely related. You just don't buy it.

Pharmaceutical companies are the richest companies in the world. Bush must be getting paid off by them. How else can you explain his inconsistencies.

A sixteen year old girl can have her 18 year-old friend purchase it for her.

Perhaps that is the strategy to get rid of it. Lawyers will sue the company out of existance and it will disappear.

Why continue to say that Plan B prevents implantation?

It's not an abortion pill.
It is a contraceptive.
It is already legally available via prescription.
This is only a status change to OTC from prescription, and only for adults.

Get your facts.

If you are anti-contraceptive (Catholic etc.) then opposition to this change would be consistent and I have nothing further to offer.

However, if you are OK with contraception via birth control pills then opposition to this pill represents an uneducated and inconsistent position.

Before 'Plan B' even came to market many (and I do mean many - a lot) of doctors would prescribe a triple to quadruple dose of normal and readily available contraceptive for female patients reporting a sexual assault or a high risk (unprotected) encounter. From that practice evolved a single pill for that specific case - 'Plan B'. Even in the age of 'Plan B' many doctors still use the 'old' method of 3-4 pills of normal contraceptive.

Plan B does not coase an abortion.
It will not terminate a preganancy.

Many people have Plan-B confused with RU486. They are not the same thing. Please educate yourselves - and then, once educated, please feel free to rant away in a semi-intelligent manner.

.
Please note: I use 'you' in the general sense, not the specific. I intend no personal slights.
