That is certainly possible. But if you read the entire article, you will see that the bus driver only allocated the last two seats for the nine black kids -- not the last two rows, but the last two seats. Also, the bus driver called one of the families to apologize.

I did read the entire article, and I saw those two facts. By themselves, there is still a possibility (not much of one, admittedly) that the whole thing is a more-or-less innocent mistake. What was the apology for? "I'm sorry that I unintentionally embarrassed your children" is way different than "I'm sorry for being a racist POS."

Again, I don't have much hope that it's an innocent screw up, but it's just hard to believe that anyone would be that much of a moron in this day and age.

More like, "My lawyer says I have to apologize if I even want the chance to keep my job, so I'm sorry that you're black."

Some people have issues, and if this incident happened as reported, then this particular person obviously has lots of issues.

Story is about perceived racism.

I posted to provide a general perspective on what is considered newsworthy and what gets buried where race is concerned.

Did you find the facts of my post disturbing? ...so much so, that instead of assuming quite naturally I was adding unemotional contextual fact to the discussion, you were subconsiously looking for a reason to disregard the harsh new reality in front of you?

Clara, When I worked at your school, as a substitute, I witnessed, daily, the most atrocious, barbaric, unhuman and uncivilized behavior by the black students to either the caucasian students or their fellow black students. Things I never would have thought possible by thirteen-year-olds, like pushing people down stairs with an intent to cause great harm.

The comments of some of the posters re: administration tip-toeing around the black students while coming done hard on the white students is totally true at your school. It must make it hard to fulfill your duties with all that nonsense going on.

I suggest your daughter get some martial arts lessons and kick some butt back.She will then get"the sisters"respect real fast.
I work around lots of the girls in the hood.I know that most of their anger-at least here in California-gets taken out on each other.Evidently there still is a lot of"race tripping"going on in Virginia.Too bad they haven't moved beyond that nonsense.
I knew a white kid from the hills who went to a flatlands school in my city and got harassed a lot by the young black kids.He got in three fights his first week.He wasn't a slouch either when it came to using his fists.Two of those boys actually became good friends of his and word got around among the other black kids is that you"don't f--- with Jerry".
Of course,this was in 1967.Lots of attitudes have gotten worse but if I were your daughter I would stand up for myself,not be"a sweet little white girl".That attitude doesn't wash anywhere anymore and that is most unfortunate.

It's hilarious how people cherry pick which articles to believe right off, and which to say "Hey, now, let's calm down..."

Every Bush-bashing article from the Buchanan wing gets believed and Bush is pilloried, every HRC-bahsing article is believed right off, but a white driver sends black kids to the back of the bus and it's let's wait and see?

If a black driver did the same to some white kids there would be no call for wait and see, there'd be hundreds of screams of reverse racism (whatever that is--it's racism, period).

Everything we comment on here could be retracted at a moment's notice when new facts emerge--why the extra caution on racial stories like this?

The driver should be fired; if he were black and did this to whites we'd all be demanding it, and rightly so, also. Racism isn't a Republican value--we're the party that freed the slaves. Let this guy join the democrats, he'll be comfortable there.

I was raised in a military house. We lived next to white, black, Filipino, and Mexican/Puerto Rican. I learned about people and types. color is only one part of the equation. More than anything, it is lack of respect for others. That is something only found at home!

My daughter learned the things she needed. She is a mom, now and raising a fine young man (his 5th b-day is Saturday). He knows how to handle bullies, now, too! His hero is Chuck Liddell, and he just got a mohawk!

Good for your daughter.I find that military families seem to be much more comfortable in-excuse the cliche-"diverse"environments.Its something they are used to on a day to day basis.
I'm not one to make excuses for these black kids.You do wrong and you should be punished.I don't care WHAT your background is.Yet most of these kids come from HORRIFIC home situations and although they may flaunt how"bad"they are at school,at home and on the streets they are a split second away from GETTING the same kind of hurt they inflict upon others.

You make a good apologist. I just think they are cretins, born and bred to reproduce more of the same. Fortunately, there is enough wisdom in the black community that wse are seeing a seed change. But, as long as Jesse, Al, and their allied friends in the "poverty" business get out of the way, it will stay pretty much the same.

My goal in the schools is to CHANGE unacceptable behavior,not enable it.I'm NO apologist.Example-a couple of years ago I kept two out of control back kids after school and read the riot act to them.I said,"Damn,it,I'm so f----- tired of you black guys f------ up this school.Do you understand the kind of s--- that crap leads to"And so on.In THOSE words too,OK?I am TOUGH and put up with no crap.They know better than to get in my face.
Now,AFTER the admonishments and condemnations,where do we go from there?I contend that we must OFFER positive options.If they choose not to TAKE them,well,then see ya in the jailhouse,brother.These kids don't give a pig's fart about Jesse or Al Sharpton.And rap music?Hey,I knew plenty of thuggish kids in New Orleans when the big stars were Al Green and Marvin Gaye!
