The president spoke with UN SG Kofi Annan about the international force being assembled for Lebanon; the Iranian regime's statement on its nuclear program; and the need to improve the situation in Darfur. He attended a fundraiser for Senator George Allen, R-VA.

President Bush met with Rockey Vaccarella, Louisiana victim of Hurricane Katrina, to discuss rebuilding efforts there.

In my neck of the woods, pot roast is a 3 or 4 lb. chuck roast (you can't go wrong with that cut). You cut off the fat, roll in flour if desired, sear on all sides in hot oil, then add 1/2 C. water, salt, and pepper, and roast, covered, in the oven for 2-1/2 to 3 hours, adding vegetables (usually potatoes, onions, and carrots) during the last 90 minutes or so.

The juices make a fantastic gravy.

if you like curry add little curry powder and sultanas (white raisins) to bake beans

Very interesting -- not heard of it but am saving it in my recipes information. It sounds great.

If they had used green tomatoes in cooking they would have gone brown like they do in chutney.

Green tomato chutney is wonderful I must see if I can find mum recipe. She used to grow tomatoes and often the last crop would not ripen so she made this chutney would used to last us through till to end of Christmas and new year holidays.

If you heated the tub cheese in the microwave so it was "foldable," I think it would work in the cheese - canned chili con carne recipe to be served with nacho chips as a dip.

For me it is the other way round. The older I get I seem to be reverting to favourite things of my childhood.

Maybe I was lucky because my parents were in catering they often managed to get the best possible things available so I had good stuff as a very young child.

Though I am also reverting to liking the junk stuff as well so maybe that theory does not work. Like pink shrimps, strawberry laces etc. :0)

Thanks for that tip Gretchen had not thought of that and plus side is that cheese spread is quite low calorie.

Coopster, ohioWfan is on the PRISON DIET!

That's what we call it, although I think it comes from the Cleveland Clinic.

It really works, but I can't use it because of the grapefruit, which I can't have because of my anti-chloesterol medicine. Stick with it and you will lose weight.

I have them rarely, and always when I eat out, but yes, I've always enjoyed them.

The older I get the more I crave the food of my childhood - too.

When my Mum died (last year), I went through her recipe's and found one for a pea salad that I had loved as a child. That started the ball rolling. Now I must have bologna/tomato/salad dressing/potato chip sandwiches from time to time, and a few other "bad for you" items. Lord knows I've had my fair share of HEALTHY CHICKEN. I need some of that BAAAD food.

I hear you day before yesterday I made blackberry and apple pudding with suet pastry.

When I was a child that was a summer favourite in fact we even had it as a main meal a couple of times a year.

Maybe if I spent less time on FR I would be more inclined to cook? ;*)

We have a gas stove, snugs.

It was very nice when we lost power for nearly a week during an ice storm last year because, even though the oven was electrical and the starters (not the right word) for the burners were, we were able to light a match and get flame, so we could cook and get a little warmer at the same time!

Thanks! The strawberry laces are what I thought they were!

I wasn't sure if the pink shrimps were real shrimp. They look like they could be like our candy circus peanuts, or whatever they are called. Soft, squishy, marshmallowy.

ACK! Prison?? LOL!

I think you're right about the Cleveland Clinic..........but it also is being tested by the American Heart Association. Mr Oh had it checked out with the hospital dietician, and she said that they're doing a lot of experimentation on chemical interreaction of foods.

My problems with it are that it works the first week, but then doesn't work unless I give it time in between. And since I only lose about three pounds on it, I usually gain two back just by eating normally (though I tend to eat less, of course, because of minimal appetite).

So over the course of many, many months of both diet and exercise, I have still only lost 8 pounds......which is good, but I'd like to lose more.

My metabolism is seriously at zero. We went on an intense walking program for 45 days and I lost NO weight.......zip, zero, nada..........and didn't increase my food intake at all.

Right now, I'm working out at the fitness center three days a week (rowing machine for 20 minutes!!), and we're walking every single night (2 miles), and I'm not losing an ounce.

I think God made me a fat person, but I'm going to fight it with every ounce of strength I have. LOL!
