AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch police arrested 12 passengers on a U.S. Northwest Airlines plane bound for India which was forced to turn back to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Wednesday, news agency ANP reported.
ANP quoted a police spokesman as saying 12 were arrested, but declined to give further details due to the ongoing investigation.
Police officials were not immediately available to comment.
The Dutch Defense Ministry said earlier the pilot decided to turn back after the crew said several of the 149 passengers on flight 42 to Mumbai were behaving suspiciously.
Security has been increased at airports worldwide in the last two weeks after British police said they had foiled a plot by British Muslims to blow up planes in the mid-Atlantic using liquid explosives disguised as drinks.
I love wisecracks. There is something very defiant, and American, about them in the face of somber events and especially in wartime.
I just flew in from Amsterdam this morning. KLM tells you all cell phones must be shut off before take off . Other than that they are allowed on the plane and no one really checked if anyone was on the phone. I saw a few people "playing" with them but no one using one.
At least make up new wisecracks and not have almost a whole page dedicated to them. If it is in breaking news, some of us would like the facts instead of wading through a ton of the same old wisecracks that lost their laughter factor sometime back!
LOL! We should fly together. That way nobody would wake either of us up...although I will say that between the first and second Scotches, I do make a little conversation with my seatmate. Then I go to sleep.
I did get left on a night train in Spain once, no Scotch involved, simply because the motion of a train is sooooo soothing. There were four of us in the compartment, total strangers and dead to the world, when the cleaner came through and pounded on the door. We had to leap out onto the platform in Madrid dragging our baggage and one girl was still wearing the funny outfit she slept in.
Mabbe IRS should just audit their "little side business selling phones" - if they dare ...
I would pay extra for a non-muslim flight. I would pay double for a non-muslim, smoking flight.
I stand corrected.
I stand corrected.
I hear you - sometimes it is a pain in the neck to wade through dreck. But I pray the impulse to crack wise never stops, ever.
I couldn't agree more.
I would too! :0)
As a matter of fact, there are now more threads on FR, that have nothing to do with politics or real news, no matter how hard one might try to twist them into being such, than there are on news and politics. Doubt that? Then look at the religious threads, the what's your favorite/ least favorite song, group, commercial, movie, T.V. show, animal, Sci-Fi movie, book, scene, line from a movie, brand of underwear, food to eat after you come down from a pot high and on and on and on.
Please don't even attempt to tell others just how "stressed" other people are; it doesn't wash.
You're right. This thread has been trashed, from the time it was first posted, by a bunch of jerks. There's nothing funny, nor to joke about here.
What's your secret?
ROFL!!
There's a lot of that going around, among Muslims, apparently.
I wonder if they simply claim difficulty with the language, (while they threaten to sue for discrimination, of course).
For people who claim to be so unjustly persecuted, they certainly know how to push the negative attention buttons. Maybe the plan -- if there is a plan, and not simply ignorant arrogance -- is to wear down westerners with false alarms, with the result that people will be more afraid of complaining or reacting that they are of death by flaming aircraft.
