ADL Blasts Christian Supremacist TV Special & Book Blaming Darwin For Hitler

New York, NY, August 22, 2006 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today blasted a television documentary produced by Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy's Coral Ridge Ministries that attempts to link Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to Adolf Hitler and the atrocities of the Holocaust. ADL also denounced Coral Ridge Ministries for misleading Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Human Genome Research Institute for the NIH, and wrongfully using him as part of its twisted documentary, "Darwin's Deadly Legacy."

After being contacted by the ADL about his name being used to promote Kennedy's project, Dr. Collins said he is "absolutely appalled by what Coral Ridge Ministries is doing. I had NO knowledge that Coral Ridge Ministries was planning a TV special on Darwin and Hitler, and I find the thesis of Dr. Kennedy's program utterly misguided and inflammatory," he told ADL.

ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement:"This is an outrageous and shoddy attempt by D. James Kennedy to trivialize the horrors of the Holocaust. Hitler did not need Darwin to devise his heinous plan to exterminate the Jewish people. Trivializing the Holocaust comes from either ignorance at best or, at worst, a mendacious attempt to score political points in the culture war on the backs of six million Jewish victims and others who died at the hands of the Nazis.

"It must be remembered that D. James Kennedy is a leader among the distinct group of 'Christian Supremacists' who seek to "reclaim America for Christ" and turn the U.S. into a Christian nation guided by their strange notions of biblical law."

The documentary is scheduled to air this weekend along with the publication of an accompanying book "Evolution's Fatal Fruit: How Darwin's Tree of Life Brought Death to Millions."

A Coral Ridge Ministries press release promoting the documentary says the program "features 14 scholars, scientists, and authors who outline the grim consequences of Darwin's theory of evolution and show how his theory fueled Hitler's ovens."

Gravity is a theory??? I'm sorry, I thought it was the reason I am not flying out into space. My bad.

Actually gravity is REAL, evolution is a theory.

A. was not a Darwinist

B. hated Darwinism

C. and was guided by anti-Darwinist, psuedo-scientific notions

"This thread is about a misguided attempt to blame Nazism on science, using fraudulent documents."

So you respond by repeatedly trying to pin the Nazi tail on another Donkey, lol. I've pulled a few cites for you, that are contrary to your contention that "science," specifically that aspect inspired by Charles Darwin, played no role in the development of industrialized genocide of peopels deemed "inferior" in Nazi Germany.

"In every European country between 1870 and 1914 there was a war party demanding armaments, an individualist party demanding ruthless competition, an imperialist party demanding a free hand overbackward peoples, a socialist party demanding the conquest of power, and a racialist party demanding internal purges against aliens—all of them, when appeals to greed and glory failed, or even before, invoked Spencer and Darwin, which was to say, science incarnate . . Race was biological, it was sociological; it was Darwinian."—*Jacques Barzun, Darwin, Marx, Wagner (1958), pp. 92-95.

"[Hitler] stressed and singled out the idea of biological evolution as the most forceful weapon against traditional religion and he repeatedly condemned Christianity for its opposition to the teaching of evolution . . For Hitler, evolution was the hallmark of modern science and culture, and he defended its veracity as tenaciously as Haeckel."—*Daniel Gasman, Scientific Origins of Modern Socialism: Social Darwinism in Ernst Haeckel and the German Monist League (1971), p. 188.

"I cannot deny that the theory of evolution, and the atheism it engendered, led to the moral climate that made a holocaust possible."—*Edward Simon, "Another Side to the Evolution Problem," Jewish Press, January 7, 1983, p. 248.

"Adolf Hitler’s mind was captivated by evolutionary thinking—probably since the time he was a boy. Evolutionary ideas, quite undisguised, lie at the basis of all that is worst in Mein Kampf and in his public speeches. A few quotations, taken at random, will show how Hitler reasoned . . [*Hitler said:] ‘He who would live must fight; he who does not wish to fight, in this world where permanent struggle is the law of life, has not the right to exist.’ "—*Robert E.D. Clark, Darwin: Before and After (1948), p. 115.

"The more civilized so-called Caucasian races have beaten the Turkish hollow in the struggle for existence. Looking to the world at no very distant date, what an endless number of the lower races will have been eliminated by the higher civilized races throughout the world."—*Charles Darwin, Life and Letters, p. 318.

"Biological arguments for racism may have been common before 1859, but they increased by orders of magnitude following the acceptance of evolutionary theory."—*Stephen Jay Gould, Ontogeny and Phylogeny (1977), p. 127.

"My abhorrence of Darwinism is understandable, for what member of the ‘lower races’ could remain indifferent to the statement attributed to the great master (Darwin, 1881, in a letter to W. Graham) that ‘at no very distant date, what an endless number of the lower races will have been eliminated by the higher civilized races throughout the world.’ "—*Kenneth J. Hsu, in Geology, April 1987, p. 377.

>>>Is Christianity really harmed if you can't proselytize to Jewish kids in elementary schools? <<<

Proselytizing, huh? Do you have any evidence this has occurred? It certainly did not occur with the Jewish kids I went to school with.

>>>I just don't see where you're picking up any anti-American or anti-Christian sentiment -- it's certainly not coming from me.<<<

It most certainly is. Your anti-Christian bias comes through loud and clear.

Gravity is a theory???

Yes, gravity is a theory. Gravitational theory is what we use to explain what gravity is and how it works. It is a "theory", even though everybody knows gravity exists, because scientists use the word "theory" in a different sense than non-scientists. A scientific "theory" is a model or framework for describing a set of observed, related phenomena.

Actually gravity is REAL, evolution is a theory.

Both are real, and both are theories.

"My ancestors and Daniel Boone's parents are buried there."

I have a few Quakers in my ancestry, too. Surnames Reddick, Thornton and Cox. I'm still in western NC. Where are yours buried, Yadkin County?

I'm not sure you understand my point. I'm not suggesting that there is a massive proselytization campaign underway, but I would be concerned if elementary students were suddenly subjected to bible study in public schools. I think most Jewish parents would feel more comfortable with their kids learning religion in a Jewish setting. That's all I'm saying.

Your anti-Christian bias comes through loud and clear.

I think you're being silly. I still don't see why you think I have an anti-Christian bias.

Why? Most Muslim extremists *are* creationists. Just not *Christian* creationists.

My 6th g-grandparents are buried in Greensboro, Guilford County. Their children (my 5th) are buried in Cedar Valley, Caldwell County. Daniel Boone's parents (Squire and Sarah) are buried in nearby Rowan County.

I'll have to profess a lack of familiarity with the Noachide. It could be akin to omitting the "o" in "G-d," that I've seen before among certain Jewish groups, as well as certain evangelical Christians. It pertains to not wanting to utter or profane the name, as best I am able to interpret. Or, it could be removing "Christ" from "Christian," somewhat like Xmas or Xtian. He didn't capitalize "chr*stian," either, so I suspect it might be the latter, but I can't really say for certain.

Greensboro? New Garden meeting. Historic, lots of ties to the Underground Railroad, Levi Coffin, the Mendenhall Plantation. They still have an old, false-bottomed wagon there, used to conceal former slaves while they transported them to the next "station." Rowan County covered a lot of territory back then, though. It was quite large, and was divided several times. Boone's Cave was in Rowan County, and is now in Yadkin County. That's why I asked.

Sorry. I didn't hear about scientists performing an experiment that proved conclusively that slavery was wrong.

I'm a scientist. Take it from me, slavery is wrong. If you disagree, where is your proof?

So what happens in the Messianic future when a thief cannot recompense his victim? The Torah says he is to be sold into slavery and the profit from the sale used to recompense the robbery victim. So . . . you won't let him do this?

There is no Messianic future in store for us, so the question does not arise. No sharia future either. (I think you need to get out more, meet new people...)

Prior to the ACLU's meddlesome (and destructive) activities in our society, virtually all elementary students were subjected to bible study in schools. Further, many of the most prestigious colleges you are familiar with today (including Harvard and Yale ) were started as Christian schools. Bible study in public schools was common as late as the 1960's in many of the Bible-belt states. I know. I attended public school during the 1950's and 1960's.

"Darwinism does not need a God and therefore does not have to have a conscience or morals."

What you are saying is that humans if they do not believe in and apply 'God's' moral standards tend to act immoral. This sounds like you are agreeing that without God's guidelines humans are nothing but animals.

Which is it, are we animals that will naturally act immorally without God's guidance or are we God's special creations, above the animals, who will act morally because of our special position?

On the other hand if atheists are correct and there is no God then the morals most cultures abide by are a direct result of the evolution of cooperation. Without a God, then the morals you and your belief system operate under did not originate from a supernatural source but from the internalized formalization of social constructs resulting from the advantages cooperation imparts to a social group. If there is no God, then the emotions of love, trust, desire all are the result of evolutionarily stable strategies carried through 100s of 1000s of generations.

Why you creationists never take your claim of immoral evolution to its logical conclusion is beyond me. All you have to do is posit one case where God does exist, and then posit a case where God does not exist, considering in both cases the current moral standards of our society.

If God does exist you have to explain why humans tend to act like animals when God's morals are ignored.

If God does not exist then you have to explain where Christian (or any other set of) morals came from if not from evolutionary processes.

Perhaps you should learn what is meant by 'scientific theory' before you spout off about it.

Just a suggestion.

Where are your ancestors buried? I searched the Quaker Encyclopedia disc and found many Thornton's and Cox's, and nine Reddick's.

Well, correcting myself, it borders Yadkin County, and also borders the Yadkin River. The park proper is in Davidson County. Squire Boone's property was in nearby Davie County, which was also once Rowan County, prior to partition.
