ADL Blasts Christian Supremacist TV Special & Book Blaming Darwin For Hitler
New York, NY, August 22, 2006 The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today blasted a television documentary produced by Christian broadcaster Dr. D. James Kennedy's Coral Ridge Ministries that attempts to link Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to Adolf Hitler and the atrocities of the Holocaust. ADL also denounced Coral Ridge Ministries for misleading Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the National Human Genome Research Institute for the NIH, and wrongfully using him as part of its twisted documentary, "Darwin's Deadly Legacy."
After being contacted by the ADL about his name being used to promote Kennedy's project, Dr. Collins said he is "absolutely appalled by what Coral Ridge Ministries is doing. I had NO knowledge that Coral Ridge Ministries was planning a TV special on Darwin and Hitler, and I find the thesis of Dr. Kennedy's program utterly misguided and inflammatory," he told ADL.
ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman said in a statement:"This is an outrageous and shoddy attempt by D. James Kennedy to trivialize the horrors of the Holocaust. Hitler did not need Darwin to devise his heinous plan to exterminate the Jewish people. Trivializing the Holocaust comes from either ignorance at best or, at worst, a mendacious attempt to score political points in the culture war on the backs of six million Jewish victims and others who died at the hands of the Nazis.
"It must be remembered that D. James Kennedy is a leader among the distinct group of 'Christian Supremacists' who seek to "reclaim America for Christ" and turn the U.S. into a Christian nation guided by their strange notions of biblical law."
The documentary is scheduled to air this weekend along with the publication of an accompanying book "Evolution's Fatal Fruit: How Darwin's Tree of Life Brought Death to Millions."
A Coral Ridge Ministries press release promoting the documentary says the program "features 14 scholars, scientists, and authors who outline the grim consequences of Darwin's theory of evolution and show how his theory fueled Hitler's ovens."
Hitler was mainly influenced by neo-paganism...
Yeah...
If you feel I am "infesting your country," perhaps you would like to exterminate me? I thought only "Bible-thumpers" did that. I thought evolutionists and atheists were pure as the driven snow.
As I mentioned earlier, ZC appears to be exempt from the usual FR rules against promoting slavery, upholding the Constitution and so forth. His prsence will do wonders for the site's reputation when it gets quoted on the Daily KOS.
Unfortunately, the Daily KOS may already know more about the contents of the Torah than ignorant "philo-Semites" who think Judaism is all about dancing the hora and celebrating the First Amendment on Chanukkah. Otherwise, are you saying that a belief in the Torah is an embarrassment or something that shouldn't be allowed? Why don't you lay your cards on the table?
And for the record, the whole demonstrates the fact that people who say "Darwin doesn't lead to genocide" turn right around and then claim that Genesis does. Isn't that a bit of a contradiction? Not to mention that all my life (even before I became an observant Noachide) I have had to listen to idiots claim that "the Bible is an anti-Semitic chr*stian document" or "fundamentalists lynch Blacks" without anyone ever addressing the fact that the Bible is JEWISH and that the victims of racist lynchings had the same religious beliefs as their murderers. I'm still waiting to hear why the same fundamentalism that causes rednecks to go out on murderous racist rampages is find and dandy when professed by people with slightly more melanin.
LOL. You really don't want to go there. This is the actual transcript from your reference:
[Dr. Franklin speaking]
Mr. President
The small progress we have made after 4 or five weeks close attendance & continual reasonings with each other--our different sentiments on almost every question, several of the last producing as many noes as ays, is methinks a melancholy proof of the imperfection of the Human Understanding. We indeed seem to feel our own want of political wisdom, since we have been running about in search of it. We have gone back to ancienthistory for models of Government, and examined the different forms of those Republics which having been formed with the seeds of their own dissolution now no longer exist. And we have viewed Modern States all round Europe, but find none of their Constitutions suitable to our circumstances. In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.--Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth--that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that "except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human Wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.
I therefore beg leave to move--that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service--
Mr. Sharman seconded the motion.
Mr. Hamilton & several others expressed their apprehensions that however proper such a resolution might have been at the beginning of the convention, it might at this late day, 1. bring on it some disagreeable animadversions. & 2. lead the public to believe that the embarrassments and dissentions within the convention, had suggested this measure. It was answered by Docr. F. Mr. Sherman & others, that the past omission of a duty could not justify a further omission--that the rejection of such a proposition would expose the Convention to more unpleasant animadversions than the adoption of it: and that the alarm out of doors that might be excited for the state of things within. would at least be as likely to do good as ill.
Mr. Williamson, observed that the true cause of the omission could not be mistaken. The Convention had no funds.
Mr. Randolph proposed in order to give a favorable aspect to ye. measure, that a sermon be preached at the request of the convention on 4th of July, the anniversary of Independence,--& thenceforward prayers be used in ye Convention every morning. Dr. Frankn. 2ded. this motion After several unsuccessful attempts for silently postponing the matter by adjourng. the adjournment was at length carried, without any vote on the motion.
Did you note that the reason that prayer had been ommitted prior to Franklin's request was that the Convention had no funds [to hire a minister]? LOL!
Note also that your reference puts to rest the false claim that Franklin was a deist. Franklin was a Quaker (as were my ancestors from eastern Pennsylvania), and no Quaker is a deist.
>>>It is difficult to see how people committed to telling the truth could be Holocaust deniers or deniers of the centuries of German antisemitism leading up to it, but here it is, for everyone to see.<<<
Liberals supported Hitler and anti-semitism then, and they support anti-semitism now. Nothing has really changed that much.
>>>Are Jews asking that Christian kids be forced to read the Talmud in elementary school? No? Then afford us a similar courtesy.<<<
Why have those claiming to be Jews worked so hard at destroying Christianity in the United States, when this Christian nation has proven to be a haven for Jews in their hour of need? That is a real mystery. Rabbi Daniel Lapin explores this subject in his book, "America's Real War".
Nazism was supposed to be "applied biology" (Fritz Lenz coined this phrase in 1931).
The Nazis collected race records of grandparents and great-grandparents, not synagogue records of Bar Mitzvahs.
>>>Benjamin Franklin was not a Quaker. He was baptized in 1706, at the Old South Church congregation's Cedar Meeting House on downtown Washington Street, Boston. Built in 1729 as a Congregational church, Old South was the largest building in colonial Boston. In Philadelphia he occasionally worshiped at Christ Church, the Church of England parish established in colonial Philadelphia in 1695 and later reorganized into the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America." <<<
LOL. I always assumed he was Quaker (by his dress and demographics). Now I find he was a good Protestant and Episcopalian. Thanks for the info.
BTW, my ancestors were Quakers in eastern Pennsylvania in the late 1600's and early-to-mid 1700's. They migrated south with the Boone's (Daniel Boone, his parents and his siblings) during the great Quaker migration of the mid 1700's and settled in western North Carolina. My ancestors and Daniel Boone's parents are buried there.
No sane breeding program would trough away the best stock and keep the dregs. Nazism had a lot of handles, and the most popular was its reinforcement of the traditional hatred of Jews. The hatred was already there and had been for centuries.
I was not aware that Darwin was a "social scientist".
Man, talk about "victimology."
I disagree. IMO it's a stretch to find any coherency in Hitler's policies, except for the Fuehrer Principle and the pro-Aryan anti-Jewish anti-Slavic, etc, racism/nationalism.
A total opportunist. A chameleon. He was a Catholic when he talked to the clergy, a Pagan with Himmler, an artist with Speer, a militarist when he talked to the Junkers, a peace-lover once he had gotten his way, a friend of capitalism when he cadged money from the industrialists, a poor workingman when he addressed the masses, etc [cf 1 Corinthians 9:20-22]
Someone rising to power by denouncng the Versailles Treaty, exploiting the Depression, and scapegoating the Jews for betraying the Fatherland, corrupting society, spreading syphilis, etc, hardly needed any help from Darwin.
Keep in mind that A.H. learned his Anti-Semitism in extremely Catholic Vienna; at the time he was interested in art and politics - there is no evidence he knew any biology, or any science, at all. When he was in more-Lutheran Germany, he took Luther's advice
In On the Jews and Their Lies, written in 1543 three years before his death, Luther recommends that Jews be deprived of money, civil rights, religious teaching, and education, and that they be forced to labor on the land, or else be expelled from Germany and possibly killed. You don't fnid that kind of crap in Darwin.
Yeah but ignorance abounds more. What it doesn't have in knowledge it makes up for in quantity.
I am not working hard to destroy Christianity in the United States. Is Christianity really harmed if you can't proselytize to Jewish kids in elementary schools? I just don't see where you're picking up any anti-American or anti-Christian sentiment -- it's certainly not coming from me.
Hitler, role model for healthful living: an antismoking, teetotaling vegetarian.
You're right, evolution doesn't need a God. But then neither does the theory of gravity. Somehow, I can reconcile my acceptance of gravity and of evolution with my faith in the Almighty. And I even manage to do so without becoming a mass murderer or participating in genocide, etc. Faith runs deeper than you think.
