ANIMAL RIGHTS TERRORISM PAYS OFF:
://instapundit ^ | August 22, 2006 | Glenn Reynolds

The constant calls, the people frightening his children, and the demonstrations in front of his home apparently became a little too much.

Dario Ringach, an associate neurobiology professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, decided this month to give up his research on primates because of pressure put on him, his neighborhood, and his family by the UCLA Primate Freedom Project, which seeks to stop research that harms animals.

Anti-animal research groups are trumpeting Ringach’s move as a victory, while some researchers are worried that it could embolden such groups to use more extreme tactics. . . .

Colleagues suggested that Ringach, who did not return e-mails seeking comment, was spooked by an attack on a colleague. In June, the Animal Liberation Front took credit for trying to put a Molotov cocktail on the doorstep of Lynn Fairbanks, another UCLA researcher who does experimentation on animals. The explosive was accidentally placed on the doorstep of Fairbanks’s elderly neighbor’s house, and did not detonate.

If people were doing this to animal-rights activists, it would be called fascism.

This is where you end up when you live in a world of moral equivalence. When you are a law unto yourself, morality is whatever you decide it to be.

I'm thinking Dr. Vlasak would benefit immensely from a nice double tap.

If they are declared terrorists, how can they get a permit to demonstrate?

Animal Rights Leader Wants to Be Barbecued
Apr 25, 2003, 9:14 am ET

By Francois Murphy

LONDON (Reuters) - The leader of a prominent U.S.-based animal rights group said she had drawn up a will directing that her flesh be barbecued and her skin used to make leather products in protest at man's ill-treatment of animals.

Ingrid Newkirk, 53, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said on Thursday she had chosen to donate her body to her organization for use in a variety of startling protests.

Newkirk also suggested her feet be removed and made into umbrella stands similar to those made from elephant feet that she had seen as a child.

"I want to find ways to have my work live on when I'm gone and this has been my first idea. I will make a stir when I am long in the ground," Newkirk told Reuters.

A PETA spokesman said Newkirk held British and U.S. citizenship and a copy of her will would be kept in both countries.

In the document she also suggests her liver be vacuum-packed and sent to France to be used in a campaign to persuade shoppers not to buy foie gras, made from the livers of force-fed ducks and geese.

"We are in the business of getting people to think about what happens to animals," she said.

"When they go to the grocery store and buy foie gras in a tin, there is absolutely no thought of the geese. If my liver makes people talk about the issues then some good will come of it."

Newkirk said she had not heard of anyone making similar arrangements in their will.

"We hope it will start a trend," she said, adding that she had received a letter from a person interested in using their remains to promote vegetarianism.

But one body part listed in the will is not protest or animal related. It says a small part of her heart should be buried near the Hockenheim Formula One racing circuit in Germany, preferably near the Ferrari pits.

"I love Formula One. I love Michael Schumacher, and I thought I would have a little bit of personal indulgence there," she said. "But it's not without a connection to animals because he actually signed a letter for us against experiments on monkeys in Germany."

Thanks for the ping. Sometimes a little protest time can pay off, apparently. Just read this today from www.theoutdoorwire.com:

On Tuesday, August 15, The Outdoor Wire reported on a confrontation between Zazzle, an online marketer that sells customized postage stamps as an "official licensed vendor" for the U.S. Postal Service, and REACT Consulting Group of Olympia, Washington.

REACT boss Ed Owens wrote Postmaster General John Potter protesting Zazzle's acceptance of stamps that supported the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) while simultaneously rejecting a stamp that called sportsmen "America's first conservationists."

The reasoning behind the rejection was the reason Owens was so steamed.

The "Sportsmen" stamp was rejected due to a "Policy Violation" which "Incorporates material that is primarily partisan or political in nature."

How, Owens asked, could that message be primarily partisan when "Stopping Puppy Mills" or "Protect Michigan Mourning Doves" were not?

In his complaint, Owens not-too-gently reminded the Postmaster General that as an "official licensed vendor" Zazzle was obligated to make certain all standards were "absolutely uniformly applied to any and all submissions."

Instead, Owens observed, Zazzle didn't categorically define what constitutes an advocacy position for all ZAZZLE stamp creators, saying prohibited content would be decided at the "sole judgment and discretion" of ZAZZLE.

Owens, a member of Washingtonians for Wildlife Conservation, Hunters Heritage Council and Washington State Bowhunter's Association, soon realized he had Zazzle squarely in his crosshairs.

So too, apparently, did Zazzle.

On August 17, Zazzle.com marketing director Michael Karns issued a letter that said: "Zazzle did not anticipate that some of the HSUS designs and the Dove designs would be controversial or could be seen as advocating a specific agenda. Over the past few weeks, we have concluded that the most prudent course of action is to remove the designs from our website, and to discontinue their sale as postage."

Karns' letter also says none of the postage value (the face value) of the stamps benefits any group or individual. That's true. The benefit to the group selling the postage comes from Zazzle's customization charges, not the postage itself. In what has become a raucous protest against Zazzle's stamp sales, it had apparently been misreported by some that a portion of the actual postage was being returned to the HSUS. That is not the case.

Postal authorities tell The Outdoor Wire that there were "thousands" of complaints which poured in following the reports on Zazzle. Those complaints came, in part, from our readers and members of the United States Sportsmen's Alliance. The USSA immediately alerted their membership to the story, calling for members to make their objections known to the United States Postal Service.

Those complaints were, apparently, heard.

And, animal rights extremist Rodney Coronado has been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for his interference with Forest Service agents trying to trap mountain lions in Arizona two years ago.

As was first reported in The Outdoor Wire in early 2005, Coronado and two others had been arrested and charged for their interference with the trapping activities.

In December, Coronado was convicted of felony and misdemeanor charges for his actions in the Sabino Canyon.

Coronado has now been sentenced to eight months in federal prison for those actions. After his release, he has been ordered to pay restitution and further ordered to stay away from activists involved in the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) Earth Liberation Front (ELF) and Earth First.

Coronado's accomplice, Matthew Crozier of Sedona, Arizona was convicted of the same charges, sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours of community service, and fined $1,000.

Coronado is no stranger to federal courts or prisons. He has already served a three and a half year sentence for a firebombing at Michigan State University and a theft from the

Little Bighorn National Monument that resulted in the theft - and destruction of one of the few remaining personal artifacts of Custer's ill-fated Seventh Cavalry troop.

He's also a known lover of the spotlight. Since his first prison term, Coronado has frequently advocated the use of force against anyone he feels is exploiting animals or the earth. In one speech to American University, Coronado showed off a replica of a firebomb. Coronado remarked "this little one works nice," saying it was a model he'd used before.

With this latest arrest, Coronado will be off the streets for the next eight months, but also adding another credit to his eco-terrorist resume.

Eco-terrorists like PETA, ALF, and ELF are one of the most dangerous terrorist groups in America, besides Al-Qaida. They need to be destroyed, like Jihadists.

Man, my eyes are sore from all the rolling they just did reading through this stuff.

...while some researchers are worried that it could embolden such groups to use more extreme tactics. . . .

Ya think? Should it come as a surprise that these same domestic terrorist, AR nuts want us to surrender to Osama & Co.?

Its too bad that so many profs tend to be weenies. It'd be nice to hear him come out as a concealed-carry, pro-gun activist! I'm sure that if he made public some of the threats against him & his family, he would have quite a bit of support. Perhaps he's never visited FreeRepublic? :-)

In one speech to American University, Coronado showed off a replica of a firebomb.

Am I the only one outraged that tax-payer money is given to known domestic terrorists to come to universities and preach this garbage, but many feel that the US Military shouldn't be allowed to recruit on campus?

"Am I the only one outraged that tax-payer money is given to known domestic terrorists . . ."

Of course not.

INstead of being outraged, I want to be a founding member of one of thousands of money making organizations, on behalf of something.

WE STILL NEED A COMPUTER expert to help us with the cockroach effort. So little effort can bring so many results -- let's exploit these idiots.

I've always wanted to be a leader (grin).

The cockroach venture has been on the back burner for too long, hasn't it?

Hopefully when I get settled, it can get a 'go'! It is a really good idea, and I think its quite marketable.

The Animal Liberation Front (ALF), one of the most active ecoterrorism movements in the United States, issued a statement on July 12, 2006, taking credit for leaving an incendiary device at the home of a UCLA primate researcher.

Why don't we seize ALF's assets and send its officers to Guantanamo?
