You are correct, these two things are perfectly acceptable.

What's not acceptable is when mom and dad turn a large portion of their daughter's life into "playing 'dress up' and putting on mommy's make up" for the benefit of the public.

As a child, I loved to watch old Shirley Temple Movies. As an adult I am appalled at the way adults dressed her in some of the movies. Specifically the littles dresses that never quite covered up her panties

That was the style. I had many dresses with lots of flounces and petticoats that were short. There were pretty party pants that were worn under them. I always loved to show off my party pants.

My wife, family members, friends, and co-workers all agree that the whole thing was one of the creepiest, perverted things they've ever seen. How you can believe these stupid kiddie pageants are good for children is beyond me.

After reading some of the comments in this thread I couldn't believe how narrow minded some members could be. I.was prompted to pull out and look at some photo's from when my girls were that age. I guess I have to hang my head in shame. There are several in particular where their makeup is so thick you could peel it off. The photo's were taken when they were involved in a Parochial School Christmas performance of 'The Nativity' and it was the nuns who were in charge of costumes, makeup and hair, so the nuns were responsible for making my girls look like 'whores'. What must my husband and I have been thinking of at the time allowing the wicked nuns to exploit our daughters in such a manner?

I'm always reminded by the judge who admonishes the rape victim while letting the rapist off with little time: "What did you think was going to happen wearing a mini and all that makeup?"

Only difference here is that some are blaming the parents not the victim herself...but it's a fine line between the tow.

I was responding to a poster who stated who thought that tarting up 6 year old children like a $20.00 whore was "adorable".
