HILL TOPPER: LEADS ALL DEMS IN NEW PREZ POLL
NY Post ^ | 21 August 2006 | CATHY BURKE

Posted on 08/20/2006 6:02:53 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

It may not be all uphill for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in a run for president. The former first lady - who already appears unbeatable in her re-election bid this fall - has come out as the top Democratic White House hopeful, according to a Time magazine poll released on the publication's Web site today.

According to the poll - which will hit newsstands tomorrow - Clinton would be the only Dem to make it a real race against GOP favorite Sen. John McCain.

The poll shows a statistical dead heat, with McCain getting 49 percent of the vote to Clinton's 47 percent. The 2-point gap is within the poll's margin of error.

By comparison, McCain would wallop John Kerry by 10 points, and slap former veep Al Gore by 9.

Americans appear to have at long last warmed to Bubba's long-suffering wife. She has the highest favorable rating of big-dog Dems: 53 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of her. That tops Gore at 49 percent, and former Sens. John Edwards and Kerry at 46.

Edwards, Kerry's 2004 running mate, generated fewer negative reviews than any of the Dems.

Though the poll didn't give a breakdown of red states' vs. blue states' opinions of Clinton, the Time poll proved almost everyone knows her: Only 3 percent of those surveyed said they had no opinion of her.

The poll also found that Dems overwhelmingly describe Clinton as a strong leader with strong moral values, while Republicans view her as an opportunist who'd say or do anything to advance her political career

If GOPers continue with the head-in-the-sand attitude, Hitlery will most certainly be the next POTUS - it's bloody terrifying!

I've been concerned about it since 1992.

Hello DFU,

Good to see you. I believe, without a doubt, that Hillary can get the Dem nomination. As to the general, I do have my doubts. However, the times and events will determine the mood of the country. We all need to work hard, to keep that hell from happening. I'll be there, with bells on.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

"Have you read some of the Guiliani threads on FR? They don't want to vote for him either."

I don't like Giulani but I'd pull the lever. However I hate McInsane enough that I'd consider a vote for Hillary (on the theory of the devil you know).

Does McCain even have a chance at getting the Republican nomination?

McCain probably has more hope than Rudy - Not that I'd like to see either with the nomination!

Rudy outpolls McCaine consistently. He also even beats Hillary in NY. The NY Post has been pushing Rudy's good numbers then they print an article where it's all McCainewithout mentioning Rudy.. Bizarre.

"If you would vote for Hillary under any circumstances......well, you know the rest."

Here's my thinking - McInsane would govern as a stealth Democrat and is mentally deranged. Hillary would on the other hand be opposed every inch of the way and demonstrate just how bad Democrats really are. Net result, we'd end up in better position long term. That's the theory anyway, reality may vary.

So, ladyinred, how come conservative women like you are hot, and liberal women look like an old rug that's been beat on the clothesline? Answer me that!

If Rudy can deliver the state of New York, Election '08 may be a done deal.

Hell, he cannot deliver it in '06, let alone '08...

If Giuliani is so happy to passively sit on his hands let Mrs. Clinton be his senator, why would any Republican trust that incompetence on the national stage?

A race between two liberal New York lawyers... I pick none of the above, and I don't care what Madison Avenue designer label they have...

So, Time has piked the Republican presidential candidate as well as the Democratic one. That is some feat.

IMO Hillary would be far easier to beat than some of the more moderate, appealing democrats.

"Though the poll didn't give a breakdown of red states' vs. blue states' opinions of Clinton, the Time poll proved almost everyone knows her: Only 3 percent of those surveyed said they had no opinion of her. "

So Hillary can win every Blue State. Give it to her now. That still doesn't win the election.
