HARTFORD, Conn. -- Ned Lamont, whose anti-war campaign rattled the political landscape by toppling Sen. Joe Lieberman last week in Connecticut's Democratic primary, is gaining support in November's three-way Senate race according to a poll released Thursday...

Lieberman leads Lamont among registered voters 49 percent to 38 percent. Republican Alan Schlesinger gets support from 4 percent.

Thats an improvement for Lamont, who tralied Lieberman 51 percent to 27 percent in a three way race in a July 20 Quinnipiac poll...

This story just keeps getting better and better. I need to check and see how the DUmmies are reacting to this news. No doubt there will either be dismissal of it or a great wailing and gnashing of teeth

They were gleefully putting those "THANK YOU JIM" bumper stickers on their cars (until the GOP retook the senate that fall).

I just read an article two days ago that Lamont is now focusing on the moderate vote. ....Hmmmm, that should be interesting.

He's still a rabid anti-war candidate. This election and the election of 2008 will hinge on which side each candidate is on with regards to the WOT. All that other garbage the left depends on every election year, will be just that, garbage.

Anyone who votes for a viable Republican candidate would come right out of Lieberman's camp. We can't expect a real conservative to come out of Connecticut.

Don't they actually have the 4th candidate from Green party? Why isn't his name in the poll? I believe Joe's number would be higher...

I am not saying a real Republican could win, even in a three-way race. All I am pointing out is: (1) even Nancy Johnson or a complete RINO / self-promotor like Shays could be counted on to caucus with the Republicans and vote the party line far more often than Lieberman; and (2) in a three-way race, I think a guy like Shays could win. But I don't know if it is even procedurally possible at this point. I guess I am afraid that a lot of Freepers have canonized Lieberman based only on the facts that he (just like HR Clinton, voted to authorize the war) and is a (lot) less of a kook than Lamont. Despite his rhetoric, Lieberman is, in all other respects, just another leftist.

What the AP fails to tell (nah, they aren't trying to spin this. They wouldn't do that, would they?) is that that July 20 Quinnipiac poll was taken before Lamont won the primary. After the primary, according to an August 9-10 Rassmussenreports poll, Lieberman led Lamont 46% to 41%, with Schlesinger garnering 6%.

I see why you call this spin, but in surfing through a half dozen sites that list polls for the CT race, the July 20th poll is the last one that polled all three men as leader of three different parties. I'd say both polls are correct (or as correct as they come), but I certainly agree that Lieberman is increasing his lead over Lamont.

The liberals are going to be wetting their pants in another couple of weeks. These polls are going to be a huge embarrassment for them and essentially free advertising for Lieberman and the GOP in general.  It's going to be a very loud statement that 52% of screwballs in the primary wanted Lamont, but the majority of sound-minded people prefer Joe when it really counts.

There's no question that the antisemitic remarks will begin to flow in such numbers that the MSM won't be able to ignore them.

actually I live right across the border from CT and heard on a CT radio station about 8/1 that lamont led Lieberman by nine points head-to-head but Lieberman won by five points in a three way for the senate...

Lieberman beating Lamont in November is a FAR better outcome than him beating him in August.

I really hope he pulls it off.
