Does the NFL have a rule that at least one European-American be interviewed for each lineman or running back vacancy? Hmmmm? Why not?

I care about my team winning football games. End of story. Don't give a rat's arse what color their skin is. My starting backfield can look like this for all I care:

---'Report card gives NFL B+ for RACIAL diversity'---
The article says it still won't give an A to the NFL because (in part) there aren't enough women.
When did women become a race?

Well, I'm giving it a C- til they get more White cornerbacks.

So if more white guys were players would they get an A?

They should apply the same quota to the players....fair is fair.

However, the report noted that the NFL .... continued to lag in hiring women. Don't be too surprised to eventually see an NFL rule mandating that at least one woman be interviewed for each vacant head coaching position.

Uh, ok. Last time I checked, there wasn't a single Indian (that is, from the Subcontinent) in Football.
And really, how racially diverse can a sport be where 60% of the athletes are Black?
Don't get me wrong--I think it's great that the NFL (and NBA, MLB, etc.) are meritocratic. And I could care less what color the athletes are as long as they are the BEST. I just wish our elitist masters would allow the rest of society to follow the same model.

Are they talking about diversity, or just about black people making progress in the league? Would the nearly segregated NBA count as "diverse"? If I eat all the brightly colored jelly beans in the jar on my desk, and leave only the black ones, does that make my jelly bean jar more, or less, diverse?

Hi All-
I would never want to win a job via affirmative action, as it would be a complete insult to me. If I can't win it on my proven accomplishments, I don't want the job at all.

While some black coaches have done very like Marvin Lewis (assuming he has enough non-jailed players to field a team), others have shown little.
Given the improvements the Cardinals have made, if their record doesn't improve significantly, Dennis Green should be gone. Also, Herman Edwards is a nice guy, but had a losing record with the Jets. In fact, the team he took over wasn't bad, but the team's record got worse as his tenure went on. Yet, teams were lined up to hire him.
Don Baylor and Dusty Baker are similar examples in baseball. Baker has ruined a number of pitchers' careers by letting them throw too many innings or trying to rush them back after an injury.

The NFL's rule that at least one minority candidate be interviewed for each head coaching vacancy is the reason there are now a record seven black head coaches, six more than 16 years ago Or...it could be that it's 16 years later, and we have more blacks who have developed their careers so that they might be suitable head coaches. I suspect that one or two along the way might be because of the NFL policy, and the rest and current from my suggested alternative.

Report card gives NFL B+ for racial diversity
there are now a record seven black head coaches
Blacks make up approximately 12% of the population. Seven black head coaches would be 12% of 58 teams. I must of missed the NFL expansion, I didnt know there were that many NFL teams.
/S
More seriously, there are 32 NFL teams, so 7 black head coaches would be 21.875% for a group that is 12% of the population, and that only rates a B+?
Do you suppose that 100% black head coaches would rate a plain A grade?

"It's been really fast-tracked in a big-time way," study author Richard Lapchick said. "I've always felt the commissioner [Paul Tagliabue] had high on his priority list to improve the record for diversity, but until then he just didn't have the leverage."
I truly believe that if the unfortunately named Dick Lapchick would just exert a little more effort, he could maybe - just maybe - work a few more buzzwords in there.
"Paradigm" has a place, as do "utilize" and "core competency."
