Fighter Jet Over Columbus Ohio? (Vanity)
Posted on 08/17/2006 11:28:32 AM PDT by SlayerOfBunnies
Heard a rumor of a fighter jet (F-16 possibly?) circling just north, northeast of Columbus, Ohio around 1400 - 1415 local. Anyone else hear anything about this?

Better over Columbus than in Columbus.

It wouldn't surprise me. Military jets sometimes use commercial airports when flying cross-country or training. We frequently used commercial airports for alternate runways at the AF Bases where I was stationed. The jets can divert there if a runway is closed at the main base due to weather, stalled vehicles, etc.

The air and water show is this weekend in Chicago. The Blue Angels F-18s are buzzing the city right now.

I see them high above Austin all the time flying a grid pattern. Everyone once in awhile they come down low and I wonder what they are up to. Two once came down low and fast and, had I been quicker with the camera, I would have had them in the same frame as an old bi-plane.

So what? Last night I was being kept awake by a Coast Guard C130 circling the airport in Manchester NH.

The pilot is probably from there, told some people ahead of time that he was going to be flying through and did some circles to let them see him.

We do have more than out share of rinos in Ohio. Maybe it's time for them to begin running, far away that is.

Ohio has several air bases. For a modern fighter, anywhere in Ohio is just minutes away. I do believe southern Ohio is a restricted airspace for military training. So he was probably just hot dogging for somebody...

I saw an alarming bunch of fighter jets circling over the vicinity of my home. Of course, that was when I was growing up and living on an airforce base, but none the less...

I'm not complaining, mind you. :-) The co-worker that spotted the aircraft said it did 3-4 tight turns and then he lost sight of it.
It was reportedly flying somewhat close to the airport (between downtown and a bit west of Port Columbus).
Just curious.
