Snow White's dwarfs more famous than US judges: poll

Three quarters of Americans can correctly identify two of Snow White's seven dwarfs while only a quarter can name two Supreme Court Justices, according to a poll on pop culture released on Monday.

According to the poll by Zogby International, commissioned by the makers of a new online game on pop culture called "Gold Rush," 57 percent of Americans could identify J.K. Rowling's fictional boy wizard as Harry Potter, while only 50 percent could name the British prime minister, Tony Blair.

The pollsters spoke to 1,213 people across the United States. The results had a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.

Just over 60 percent of respondents were able to name Bart as Homer's son on the television show "The Simpsons," while only 20.5 percent were able to name one of the ancient Greek poet Homer's epic poems, "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey."

Asked what planet Superman was from, 60 percent named the fictional planet Krypton, while only 37 percent knew that Mercury is the planet closest to the sun.

Respondents were far more familiar with the Three Stooges -- Larry, Curly and Moe -- than the three branches of the U.S. government -- judicial, executive and legislative. Seventy-four percent identified the former, 42 percent the latter.

Twice as many people (23 percent) were able to identify the most recent winner of the television talent show "American Idol," Taylor Hicks, as were able to name the Supreme Court Justice confirmed in January 2006, Samuel Alito (11 percent).

How else are they supposed to think about where those gas taxes go?

Do you not have schools in your area? Airports? Welfare programs? Crime control programs? Road projects?

But how do they know which of those is being funded by their gas taxes without a true accounting from the government? You want them to obsess, stop back tracking. You made a list that if they didn't follow they're stupid, and that list involved obsessing. And now you're trying to BS your way out of it.

Good night nurse! Are you about twelve? Can you not understand some rather general and simple concepts?

You explicitly called out a section of taxes and how that's being spent. In order for them to think about how that specific section of taxes is being spent they'd need that infor from the government. That's what YOU said, don't insult me to cover the fact that you stuck your foot in it.

That was an example. Understand examples?

It used specifics, understand specifics.

Funny how quick you are to question the intelligence of everybody that disagrees with you.

Yes, very specific examples directed towards someone that is under the impression that the lives of the Average Joes are not all that affected by government. And no, I am not quick to question the intelligence of someone I disagree with...or I would have done that as soon as you made the first reference to the lack of influence of government on the Average Joe.

BUZZZZZZ, now you're lying. I never said the lives of the average Joe are not all that affected by the government, in fact I said the opposite at least once. I said the average Joe doesn't regularly DIRECTLY interact with the government, which they don't. Now you've gone from insulting to outright lies, congradulations, you've rendered yourself unworthy of further attention.

You don't call paying taxes a direct interaction?!?! How much more direct do you need to get?

Please....don't vote!

Not when the check is actually cut by your employer. Already explained to you multiple times.

Please, stop being a lying abusive dork.

Your employer collects gas taxes? I would question that. All I can collect are payroll related taxes.

Gas taxes are collected by the gas station, again no direct interaction on your part.

I think I'll stick with my original conclusion that you are a moron. Grab a beer and watch the tube. Maybe J-Lo will be on.

Again, please don't vote.

Ohhh way to show you have a point, nothing like insults and no facts to really drive it home. Simply pathetic. Who writes the check to the government? That's the party having DIRECT interaction with the government, that will always be the party having DIRECT interaction, based on simple grammatical and logical rules we all learned in grade school. Sad to call other people names because YOU can't understand 2nd grade grammar.

nothing like insults

I did not insult you. I just said that, based on what you have typed, you are a moron. Your present example only highlights that fact.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Now we know why you can't understand that the indirect object is not directly interacting. You simply have no understanding of English. When you call someone a moron you are insulting them. Go away now, the grownups have things to do.

the indirect object is not directly interacting.

You can't even understand a simple tax collection arrangement.

And moron is not meant to be an insult, just an apt descriptor.
