BANGKOK, Thailand - An American suspect arrested in connection with the death of 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey denied any connection to her murder when he was detained at his downtown Bangkok apartment Wednesday, police said.
The suspect was identified as John Mark Karr, according to Lt. Gen. Suwat Tumrongsiskul, who heads the country's immigration police. Karr denied involvement in the slayings, another police official said.
Karr's visa has been revoked because he was regarded as an "undesirable person" since he is accused of a crime in the United States, Suwat said.
Federal officials in the United States, speaking on condition of anonymity, also identified the suspect as Karr, a 42-year-old American, and said he was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.
But Thai police said he had not committed any crime in Thailand.
Suwat said he expected American officials to take the suspect back to the United States in the next few days.
The arrest was a surprise breakthrough in one of America's most lurid murder cases a decade-old crime some feared would never be solved.
JonBenet was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.
"When we informed him that he has been accused of committing a crime at home he denied all accusations. It is normal for a suspect to deny the charges," said a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The suspect, who has been in Thailand four times over the past two years, was being detained by immigration police pending arrival of U.S. officials, the police said.
Suwat said Thai police investigated the suspect and made the arrest at the request of U.S. officials.
The district attorney in Boulder, Mary Lacy, said the arrest followed several months of work. She would not disclose any details about the suspect, but the Ramsey family's attorney in Atlanta said the man was a schoolteacher who once lived in nearby Conyers, Ga.
I contend that most news sources are hooey ... including the Internet. No one checks things first.
I believe US Representative Jack Bauer said he confessed.
It's a ten year old crime that has to be solved by maybe DNA and circumstantial evidence.
If the DNA is a match, the man will be then in really hot water.
I totally agree. I just think we know too little now.
...Karr was arrested in April 2001 in Sonoma County and charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, but fled the county before he could be convicted, said Sgt. Robert Giordano of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department.
A source close to the investigation who wanted to remain anonymous said the pornography was allegedly found on Karr's computer after a third party alerted the sheriff's department. "It was a hard case," the source said. "I think they worked on it for months."
Karr worked in the Petaluma City Elementary School District as an elementary substitute teacher from Dec. 8, 2000 to April 2, 2001, when he was terminated from the position, said Deputy Superintendent of Business Services Steve Bolman. Karr worked in several schools in the district and in other schools in the North Bay.
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing suspended Karr's credential on April 11, 2002, the minutes of the commission meeting show. He was suspended because of a complaint, information or an indictment that had been filed in court against him alleging that he committed a sex offense or an offense "involving aiding and abetting the unlawful sale, use or exchange to minors of controlled substances," according to the minutes.
Authorities learned during the investigation that Karr had been fired from teaching jobs in Georgia and another southern state amid similar allegations.
"We submitted (the case) to the DA's office for prosecution," Giordano said. "At some point in the court process he failed to appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest. That warrant is still outstanding."
The media needs to slap their own faces and start over.
See #45
LOL!!! Good one!
Not true, we know his brother says HE'S A GREAT GUY and that he was getting together with the family to find old Xmas photos and to then make a recollection that they were his alibi! :-)
Thank to an inept investigation, the DNA evidence may get thrown out,

why they are buying them is starting to come out now.
I agree completely; especially about what's on line.
Thanks. He was divorced from Lara Marie in 2001.
One has to wonder if the "faster than lightening" media has once again led folks down a dead-end road. I swear, the MSM is like a bunch of hen gossip. And now I will assume that many even here on FR will KNOW for a FACT (based only on MSM reports today) that this man is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Let the absurdity begin........
And his brother says he was in Georgia, so it will be interesting to see which alibi his family goes with.
The guy's a pedophile creep either way. It's a good thing they caught him when they did (even if just on unrelated charges), because his interest in the death of young girls (according to his wife he was interested in both the Ramsey and Klaas murders) + pedophile = eventual child killer. If he didn't kill JonBenet, it was only a matter of time before he killed someone else.
unpleasant thought!!!
You're Dawg-gone right! LOL! :)
He was not a pedophile and there was no crime in Thailand.
He was gathering evidence for a book.
They are always gathering information for a book.
