Arrest Made In JonBenet Ramsey Case
CBS News Interactive: The JonBenet Case
(CBS) DENVER A man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, U.S. law enforcement officials said Wednesday.
Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.
Details on the arrest are developing, according to CBS affiliate KCNC-TV in Denver.
Patsy Ramsey made the 911 call on December 26, 1996, telling police that her daughter was missing. "There's a note left and our daughter's gone," she said breathlessly.
Ramsey said she found a ransom note on the back staircase of the family's home demanding $118,000 for the safe return of JonBenet.
Boulder police responded immediately to Ramsey's call for help, and what first looked like a kidnapping quickly became a murder investigation, when JonBenet's body was found by her father in a small storage room in the basement of her house.
An autopsy concluded JonBenet suffered a skull fracture, and was strangled and beaten.
Because of the bizarre ransom note, and the fact that JonBenet was killed in her own home, detectives focused on her parents, John and Patsy, as their prime suspects.
Boulder police brushed aside many of the leads that came in, and dismissed the possibility that an intruder had somehow slipped inside the house and committed the murder.
The police chief said the parents were "under an umbrella of suspicion," but a grand jury did not indict the couple for murder.
Throughout lengthy and sometimes hostile police interrogations, both in 1998 and 2000, the Ramseys maintained their innocence. A 2005 48 Hours report found that DNA evidence ruled out the parents as suspects and investigators were no longer focusing on the Ramsey family.
The couple wrote a book, "The Death of Innocence," which was published in 2000.
They later left Colorado and had residences in Atlanta and in Michigan, where John Ramsey unsuccessfully ran for a state House seat in 2004. The Ramseys discussed their daughter's death during the campaign.
"We can't just hold our breath and hope the killer will be found and then go on with our lives," Patsy Ramsey said in 2004. "We have to move ahead now. We can't let evil win."
Patsy Ramsey died in June 2006 from complications from cancer in Atlanta.
What age? These creepy old sicko men go for kids 10 yrs old or younger...SICKO SICKO SICKO...THROW UP...
additionally, although they didnt want to take chances in front of a jury on the matter, several hand-writing experts were prepared to testify that it was undoubtedly patsy's handwriting. furhtermore, the ransom note was made on a tablet of paper from within the house, and written inside the house. one page not used contained the beginnings of a letter, a straight line up and down as if to make an M or whatever. but the pen used to write the note was carefully placed back in the pen holding cup, if i recall. the big question being: why would a small foriegn faction wait until they had actually entered the house and abducted the girl before writing the note? isnt that a risky place to write a ransom note? the lead investigator wrote a book where he opined that jon benet wet the bed, and patsy freaked on her, and was coursely wiping her private area, perhaps while jon benet was standing on the edge of the tub, when jon benet lost her footing and hit her head on the tub. the rest, according to the investigator, was all staged. thus the same clothes the next morning, the note, etc. the investigator further concluded that john ramsey actually did find the body by surprise and put two and two together while being interogated by the cops, but didnt say anything.
Fox News now .
If it wasn't the Ramseys, I think a whole lot of people owe that family an apology.
MSM owes the RAMSEY'S an apology!
They had them hung out with a conviction all along... MSM strikes once again.
It is sick. No doubt.
You certainly are not calling Anna a pedophile. And that only leaves....
Hey, I'm no pedophile!
Although the rumors me and the Brazilian women's volleyball team are true, THEY ARE ALL OF LEGAL AGE!
LOL...that's bad!
You had posters on Anna when she was 15, fess up!
I admit I don't even remember alot of it. However, I held out hope that the parents were not involved. I just hate to think of parents doing those sorts of things, even tho I know they do.
Anyway, I do remember the media certainly pointed a finger at the parents.
susie
No, you're thinking of The Philippines
There have been some really bazaar things posted on the net about the parents....the Dad should sue...
There is a man here in Nashville that was suspected of killing his wife, but they never found the body. He "moved" to Mexico, and there was significant cooperation between the Mexican Authorities and the FBI when they finally indicted him (they essentially had to kidnap him).
Interestingly, the jury is deliberating in his case as we speak! This story was our local Laci Peterson soap opera.
I wonder if Mrs. Ramsey left a note before she died.
Now if they can just find Nicole Simpson's and Ron Goldman's real killer...
Don't hold your breath waiting for the apology. It will never come. Only those whose lives have been destroyed, losing everything can feel the horror of what happened to that family and the MSM and others will never even waste a minute of their time thinking of what they put the families through. I'm glad Patsy knew before she went, and I'm sure she's with her child now. May God give the father and son a blessed life from here forward -- that family paid dearly for everyone jumping to conclusions.
Yes.
They are saying on FOX this guy is a scientist.
She may have only been 15, but those were METRIC years.
Don't forget she is origially from Russia, you know.
In US years, that equates to 19 years old.
The timing of this story is suspicious!!!! Its all a plot by Rove to take the focus off of NED LAMONTS NETROOTS DRIVEN VICTORY!!!!!!!
