Status of Egyptian Students
The Late Show starring David Letterman ^ | 8/16/06 | kh

Posted on 08/16/2006 8:46:49 AM PDT by kinghorse

I like to watch the Letterman monologues to see how low he and his writers will go attacking the policies of the Bush Administration and Monday's show hit a new, disturbing low. First off I believe Letterman got in his requisite number of Bush is a drunk jokes. Then things got interesting. Part of the monologue including him pointing to the audience identifying the 11 Egyptian students. The camera panned to the balcony and presumably 11 young people stood up. They were all dressed very western and very casual, you know like normal, nose ring toting, tatted up young liberal Americans. they didn't look a thing like the passport pics. But he camera pan was so fast it left the viewer wondering was it real or a spoof. Of course Letterman didn't let us in on the joke if it was a spoof.

Was this a spoof or were these the 11 in the audience as Letterman's guest. If it was a spoof the message was unmistakable - The Bush administration is demonizing these poor Egpytian Students. And if we can't produce the truth to support this we'll spoof it but not tell the audience.

I believe this is known as fake but accurate in the Democrat liberal double speak dictionary of terms.

Someone help out here. Was that a "spoof" or were those the exchange students in the audience. If it was a spoof, it crossed the line big time. The Letterman scumbags were making the very popular leftist political statement that the government is trying to scare you. Then they planted actors to play the part of the Egyptian students with the subliminal "Look at these cool, normal kids". And they used these props to drive it home That would be dispicable if true.

Of course if they were all released and in his audience I'll be eating crow for this post. Let's see what the other folks know about this incident.

Profiling works. They were caught because they Walked Like an Egyptian.

I am also shocked and disturbed when late night television goofs on the current president. It's never happened before and I just dont understand it.

Letterman is starting to remind me of Alex Ballwin.

hey genius read the rest. it was psyops if the people they portrayed as the Eqpytian 11 were actors. you need to pay a little closer attention to what's going on right now. We are a country deeply divided.

I doubt it vey seriesly!! I believe those 11 are, right now, guests of the US government, at various places in the US prior to their deportation back to Egypt.

Letterman's an arrogant, elitest ass. I refuse to watch his show.

I would bet hard money that Letterman's spoof was phony. He's just as lost as Howard Dean. The laugh is very often on themselves. Sometimes it is not wise to make jokes or laugh at matters about an important issue. I think after the November elections, Mr. Letterman will be shown as a fool, especially when he made so much TV face-time in the news outlets talking about how he was so emotionally torn up about the events of 9-11. He must have short term memory loss or post tramatic strees syndrome.

then we need to find the video of that little stunt. You will be very interested to see how they made it look authentic. Letterman never let on that it was a joke.

you need to because now he's not content to just be an elitist arrogant ass. He's messing with politics in the big leagues. It's one thing to play to your audience and disparage the President in the most demeaning ways. It's entirely another to leave the audience thinking the Egpytian 11 were free and normal like you and me. That was the intended statement. Nothing about a spoof. It was pure political manipulation.

It was psyops? Yes, it's a big conspiracy. The country is deeply divided, you are right. One side contains those who think late night comedy routines are actually thinly veiled psyops, and the other side contains rational human beings.

Letterman never let on that it was a joke.

Um, except that it was on a COMEDY SHOW. I think Letterman assumes the viewer possesses a sense of humor.

I am a average Joe and I could not determine from that stunt whether it was real or contrived. Is it possible to dig up the video somehow? you need to make your own determination.

it was not presented as overt comedy, okay? are you that unsophisticated that you can't tell the liberties these writers and photographers are taking to skew perception. this was very insidious. Not a joke at all. We need to video cap to discuss rationally.

We should encourage "W" to remove Letterman from the American defense perimeter.

watch the video when we find it and then comment. You might be shocked at what the audience was left to deduce.

I felt like an idiot for a split second thinking we had been duped by the goverment with those scary mugshots. these kids were normal looking college aged kids. there was no stunt. Only waving from their part of the audience.

And it was not set up as a joke.

What can we expect from someone who finds the following to be an incisive argument:

“I’m not smart enough to debate you point to point on this, but I have the feeling, I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap.

I've always thought Letterman was as funny as a TeeVee situation "comedy". Ever notice that you don't laugh? only the "audience"

Folks, I have asked Michelle Malkin for some help getting this video capture. If I am overreacting I'll be the first to admit it. I honestly did not know if those were the "students" or not.

it was not presented as overt comedy, okay?

You obviously don't watch Letterman much. He's not like Jay Leno. Whether or not you think he's funny or relate to his humor, he rarely presents anything as "overt comedy" or announces "that was a joke" or flashes a neon sign reading "Just kidding, folks" for the slow-witted. It's a comedy show, not a news program. Those were not the actual Egyptian students in the audience. It was a joke.

A joke is supposed to have a punchline. All I got from the "joke" was the US government is fear mongering and look at these normal college kids people were panicked about. Who writes the checks for CBS? The same muslim apologists as Reuters?
