A Path To Lasting Peace (By Condoleezza Rice]
Washington Post ^ | August 16, 2006 | Condoleezza Rice

For the past month the United States has worked urgently to end the violence that Hezbollah and its sponsors have imposed on the people of Lebanon and Israel. At the same time, we have insisted that a truly effective cease-fire requires a decisive change from the status quo that produced this war. Last Friday we took an important step toward that goal with the unanimous passage of U.N. Resolution 1701. Now the difficult, critical task of implementation begins.

If you worked urgently to "end the violence" instead of making sure the good guys won and terrorist were defeated, raise you're hand.

If you see the cease fire terms- even as lousy as they are- falling apart and you pretend otherwise, raise your hand.

Hezbolla killed Marines in Beruit and Airmen of the U.S.A.F. in Khobar towers. The planes that dropped bombs on Hezbolla should have been American planes. Instead, we were at the UN undermining Israel. Making peace with terrorists is not an effective way of fighting the war on terror.

There will only be a lasting period of 'peace' when the enemies of freedom are defeated. Don't our leaders understand history?

How pathetic.

The "violence" is a contingent phenomenon.

Why aren't we working to end Hezbollah?

This whole "cease fire" was dead on arrival. And all discussion of releasing the Israeli soldiers who are being held by Hezbollah and Hamas has stopped. Has Israel just written the three of them off??

Unfortunately, along the "path to a lasting peace", you must see the extermination of Hizb'allah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al Qaeda, and all the other Mohammetan terrorist groups.

Perhaps we must see the destruction of Mohammetanism itself.

The evaporation of Mecca would expose Mohammet as the false prophet he is, once and for all.

And it may come to that.

I've read the end of "The Book", and it certainly seems that something of a tremendously cataclysmic nature will happen when all the nations come to war against Israel.

We are almost there.

It is the Israeli Prime Minister that lost this conflict and handed Hizb'Allah there victory. Instead of moving ahead aggressively he tried to run a Polictically Correct response to the aggression.

Had Israel made better use of the time that USA gave them then the outcome would have been much better. The aggressors still have their weapons and still have the kidnapped soldiers.

The Israeli people need to elect stronger leadership.

Just my 2 cents

Dear Israel, you have five weeks to destroy the hezzies. Now don't you go killing no civilians, and don't shoot if the hezzies are hiding behind any civilians, and the media has the right to lie about what you are doing. Yep, it was a done deal.

In war one has to break things, and break people (civilians) otherwise one loses, if one fights a PC war. This was a PC war dictated by a PC 'un'

The only way there will be lasting peace in the Middle East is complete and unconditional surrender of the moozelims. They need to know that by no uncertain terms, they must cease hostilities against Israel or perish.

Anything less will be perceived as weakness, and will be exploited by the jihadis. Just like we're doing now.

We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

Never mind

The path to lasting peace is over the dead bodies of Hezbollah and its supporters (including "innocent" Lebanese civilians) and ends in Beiruit or at the Northern border of Lebanon.

Or maybe in Damscus and Tehran.

Until the morons in government figure this out, the war will continue.

If the international community real is defining Hizbullah as the source of the problem then this resolution is major diplomatic progress. It is also something being steadfastly ignored by the MSM who can't deal with the US dealing diplomatically with other countries. They see every scenario as "cowboy Bush" going it alone, whether we are or not.

I don't think anyone outside the NY Times expects the UN resolution to be followed. It took all of one day for Hizzies to refuse to disarm. It's worth noting, however, that the Hizbullah rockets not land in Lebanon instead of Israel. The next round of fighting will start with Israel already in Lebanon.

We can wish for Israel to "destroy Hizbullah" but the going on the ground has shown that to be very difficult. Finding, fixing and killing them is costly. Israel has lost many soldiers and a surprisingly high number of tanks. The "one foot in terror, one foot in government" approach by Hizbullah is working. They control civilian life and the media. It's true the MSM has fallen for propaganda, staged propaganda, manipulation and outright lies. Some of the MSM appear more than willing to help Hizbullah. However, they couldn't operate objectively even if they wanted to. It would be more appropriate for the MSM to go nowhere near Lebanon and discount anything reported from the region as unreliable propaganda. Ain't gonna happen until CNN reporters get kidnapped.

Hizballah lost half of their terrorists in this war, huge number of their weapons destroyed, their infrastructure in the South and Southern Beirut destroyed, and their leader hiding in bunkers afraid that Israel will kill them. I think you agree with Hizballah and the Arabs that it is a victory that Israel did not kill all of them. You have the Arabs concept of victory and defeat.

Condi is too closely associated with the State Dept where old flower children work. All this 'give peace a chance' bullcrap is going to hurt us/Israel in the long run becasue the terrorists will NEVER give up their goals. You can never make peace with a group willing to sacrifice their own babies for the cause

"The angel of the Lord said to her (Hagar): 'You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone a hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers. [Gen. 16:11-12]

God spoke concerning the "sons of Ishmael", who became the Arabs, who in turn, became Muslims. And nothing has changed since He spoke.

It would seem that the "sons of Ishmael" have accepted their lot in life; all that remains is for the rest of the world to accept its fate and turn its hand against them!

but one can make peace with a group that is completely defeated. I agree with you, and others posting here. We must decide to take off the gloves and get to bare knuckles fighting and defeat mooselimbs, their demon allah, and the mooselimbs religion islime. Should we continue to fight a PC war, we are destine to lose the war.

I have always thought Condi Rice was both brilliant and effective. I am afraid she has finally risen to her level of incompetence! The ceasefire was sold to the Israelis and, frankly, to the American people, on the basis that it would mean the disarmament of Hezbollah, at least South of the Litani River.

Now, everyone from the French and Kofi Annan (both to be expected) to Rice are saying "Oh, NO, the UNFIL won't disarm Hezbollah, that's the Lebanese Army's job." Well, that would work IF AND ONLY IF the UNFIL was robust and ready to fire on Hezbollah if it balked at the Lebanese Army's disarming it, AND the Lebanese Army had the will to try to disarm Hezbollah.

Of course, what we've learned has confirmed our natural suspicions that the Lebanese government and Army have no stomach for even trying to disarm Hezbollah, and the UNFIL types won't do a damned thing to stiffen their backbones. All this UNFIL does is make it harder for the Israelis to restart the offensive against Hezbollah when the Iranians and Syrians get the resupply going in earnest.

Bah! I am disgusted. This Israeli government shares the blame for this - it could hardly expect the US to indefinitely resist calls for a cease fire while it mismanaged the war and displayed both hesitancy and incompetence - but it is very disheartening to see Rice take this line.

P.S. I really like and admire Condi, but she needs to study her Old Testament just a little bit more and get with the program. ;^)

And since she works for Dubya, perhaps she needs to convince him to give her a different set of marching orders.
