The Chargers kicked of their 18th annual Salute to the Military Weekend Friday with what is believed to be the first NFL practice ever held aboard a ship. The Bolts visited the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan (CNV 76), where they held their day-before-game walkthrough and spent more than two hours mingling with sailors aboard the ship.

Now there's a different locale for practice. Does Chargers refer to any connection with San Diego? I doubt it, and am always a fan of when a team mascot has meaning to the city itself. I wish the SD football team were called the Admirals or the Dreadnoughts or something like that.

Must have motivated the Bolts: 17-3 over the Packers Saturday night, with QB Philip Rivers 15 of 21, 2 scoring drives, and a passer rating of 111.0...all in the first half. (The 'Aints are welcome to Drew Brees.)

!!! San Diego Super Chargers, San Diego...Chargers !!!

That is an impressive stat line, but maybe you should wait to forget Brees until a game that actually means something.

Yeah, I don't think they'd change the name of a successful franchise just to satisfy someone who has no connection to the city or the team. But Dreadnoughts would be a cool name.

I have to agree with you on that one. I love Brees, although I am high on Rivers. This team is going to be very good. They almost survived a murderous schedule last year and this year's is much more favorable.

Yes, and they broke the back of the perennially overhyped Colts before the playoffs, and thus showed everyone else how to slay the dragon.

Sorry San Diego, but as a lonely recruit and later Seaman attending "A" School in San Diego (1968-69), I can only recall the downside of being a sailor in a town that hated sailors and treated us like criminals.

I have no desire to ever visit that dump again.

For some reason the Colts O is sensitive to the 3-4, if they don't do anything to remedy the situation they will continue the Dungy/Manning postseason lack of excellence.

I think the main problem with Indy in the postseason is that they change their gameplan from the regular season. In the regular season they mix up the passing game with plenty of rushing plays. They seem to abandon that in the playoffs and become a one-dimensional team, and thus much easier for defenses to stymie. In the game against Pittsburgh Edge played almost no role at all--completely inexplicable.

Shouldn't they be spelling out something by standing in formation on the flight deck?

You are dreaming .
I am a native here 59 yrs and this city loves and supports the military.

If this is a dump, you live in an outhouse.

Nah, Brees had one good year, got hurt last year, and has moved on to obscurity. Plus he's not really tall enough to be a long-term impact player. Rivers is the real deal; he's got Tom Brady potential. But yes, the games first must be played.

Yeah, "Thanks Guys"!
I thought the Chargers were actually named after a
horse, whose role in war was to Charge...They aren't
named after electrical charges..though their first helmets
and I think the area on the jersey where the arm comes
through had a lightning bolt graphic.

Of course, nowadays, one would expect some mall rat
with a credit card to be the mascot.
