In early May of this year, our dear friend Flyer was diagnosed with a brain tumor and lung cancer. The docs told him the tumor was not curable, but treatable. His understanding of the lung cancer was that it was minor (if there is such a thing).
Several weeks ago Flyer finished radiation. Tuesday was his first chemo treatment. Friday he was feeling bad, but did not want to go to the hospital. His brother finally called an ambulance Saturday morning to take him to the ER.
A few minutes ago Eaker, myself and Roger (Flyers brother) returned from the hospital. The news is not good.
The lung cancer has spread rapidly. Flyer only has use of one lung. He is on constant oxygen, and his breathing is still labored. Because of the cancer and tumor his immune system cannot keep up, now he has a major infection in his left leg. They are giving him antibiotics thru an IV
The doctors told the three of us that Flyer does not want any heroic measured taken. Right now his care instructions are to keep him hydrated and comfortable.
For those wondering why a prayer thread was not started earlier, it is because Flyer did not want one ~ several friends asked if they could start one, and he said no there are others who need prayers more that I.
It truly breaks my heart to type the following words, our good friend and a wonderful man will soon die. I am asking you to please pray for Flyers comfort.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for Flyer.
Thank You for all the wonderful
people who care and love Flyer.
Thank You for the blessings Flyer
has brought to all of these people.
Please guide the doctors, nurses
and caregivers as they tend to Flyer.
Your will be done God.
In Jesus' Most Holy name I pray
this prayer.
Amen.

John sends...
While facing and fighting a spreading cancer, Flyer told his friends there were other people who needed prayer much more than he. He seems a gallant man whose courageous and generous heart has touched many here. When it appeared Hurricane Rita would slam into Houston, I wrote a little note to Flyer through the webcam site dedicated to his dog, Mason, to wish them well. Since I'd clicked on the "WriteMason" link, Flyer emailed back to me using the "voice" of his dog. It was a charming note written by a gracious, witty and warm-hearted gentleman. My heartfelt prayer is that Flyer will rest in peaceful comfort, assured of his Father's infinite love and protection. Prayers, also, for Flyer's family, including his many FRiends that they shall find strength and be comforted now and in the days ahead. And prayers for the medical staff that in every aspect of Flyer's care, the Lord shall guide them. God bless and keep you, dear Flyer.
Prayers for the gentleman's suffering to be eased.
Flyer, prayers for you are on the way.
Wise words, and even in the face of such adversity there may still be people who do. Nevertheless, Flyer has mine tonight. Bless you, sir.
Prayers sent.
Oh God.
God's blessing on him and all of those who are sick or suffering. If his illness progresses to its termination, we must remember that he will soon be home with God - cancer- and pain-free.
One Prayer...On The Way.
My heart grieves.
Thank you so much for your prayers. I have no doubt that God has heard, and acted upon them.
Eaker, Roger & I am headed back up to the hospital this morning. I will post an update when it is possible.
A quiet prayer for you. May God bring you comfort.
Flyer,
You're one of my favorite Texans, and that's a pretty select bunch. I pray for your strength and peace. You're a good friend and a good man.
Your New Mexican pal,
Slim
Fathe Lord we pray for our FRiend Flyer's complete recovery from these cancers if that is Your will. If it is Your will that he be called home to glory that you will give peace and comfort to him and all who love him. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Prayers, of course.
Oh, Flyer. We love you so much.
