The last two of the 11 Egyptian exchange students who failed to show up at their college program were apprehended Sunday in Richmond, Va., customs officials said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Mohamed Saleh Ahmed Maray, 20, and Mohamed Ibrahim Fouaad El Shenawy, 17, at an apartment building in Richmond on Sunday night. Virginia State Police and the Richmond Police helped locate the students.

I guess you haven't heard about the guys with alQaeda ties coming in from Mexico. Every terrorism expert has mentioned it. (Steve Emerson and others) Also, I've read stories of police on our side of the Mexican border who have caught guys that spoke a middle eastern language.
As for money, terrorists related to groups or countries overseas have plenty of money. Do you know that Mexico and Iran have friendly relations?

We allow students and visitors into this country every day from Egypt and other countries and lose track of them. I think the story of these missing students was overblown, considering there must be tens of thousands that are here whose whereabouts are unaccounted for. The media just chose to focus on these guys.
If we're so afraid of Egyption students (or others) coming into this country, and don't have confidence in our screening process, then we shouldn't allow them to come here in the first place.

"get a clue"

The foreign student visa tracking system(CIPRIS-SEVIS) was/is a fiasco.

There were several foreign students participating in the FIRST WTC BOMBING. Because of this, Congress moved to create the tracking system. The first one, paid for by the foreign student, was dismantled because the cost to the student would impact enrollment. The second one, paid for by the taxpayer, was not implemented until 2003, and is underfunded.

Obviously, the system worked since these students were flagged when they didn't show up for classes.

The issue is one of "how much money" is directed towards the threat of terrorists entering the country as a student.

Or, how does the govt prioritize the numerous threats and allocate funding towards the numerous threats.

How much money should be spent tracking foreign students, inspecting containers, chasing mexicans around the AZ desert, or any other threat.

More importantly, are we spending money to protect ourselves from a cultural threat and not spending enough on terror threats.

Not forgetting Canada, though they have tightened things up in the past year or so.

Yup. It's always been easier to get a visa and overstay.
Already read the story you mentioned.

In the meantime, how many people have snuck across the border from Mexico?

Well it can be calculated. assuming a linear relationship (which it's not) to make things easier, the in 1986 the amnesty was for 2.8 million illegals. we now have an admitted 13 million (more like 20 million). If we use 13 million we get 1400 per day and if we use 20 mil we get 2354 a day.

If we assume that it's getting worse recently and that 50% of the invasion came in the last 5 years, then these figures double to 2800 and 4708 per day. If you assume a log linear relationship, then these numbers go up again to as much as another double, but probably go up by 50% to 4200 and 8220. If you multiply by a week, then you get a lower limit of 9800 and an upper limit of 49000 so the answer to your question is at least 98 hundred and possible as many as 49 thousand. If we take the midpoint between the two as the most likely answer, then somewhere around 29,000 have sneaked in.

"They sure spread out. "

Yes, interesting, isn't it. It's quite clear English lessons and Montana history were NEVER on their agenda.

SO, they were also in San Francisco at some point? Am I reading this correctly? For some reason, I am just not buying this "nothing to see here" bit they are trying to sell us.

In the past week?

That would be my estimate - at the very minimum at least 9800. Of course I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet...

How many hundreds of bogus "students" do US universities "lose" every year? Is there anyone from the Dept. of Homeland Security checking their foreign admissions policies? Or are universities so greedy for Arab money that they don't care who they admit? Inquiring minds want to know.

Notice that all these young men are...clean shaven? No moustaches, no beards, etc. Just an incidental coincidence maybe, ala' the 9-11 operation, but it pays to take precautions.

My theory is they were after the Virginia Commonwealth University professor who got the Islamic world in an uproar because she led prayers. Something women aren't allowed to do in the ROP.

That, and maybe they just wanted some cigs from Philip Morris.
