The last two of the 11 Egyptian exchange students who failed to show up at their college program were apprehended Sunday in Richmond, Va., customs officials said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Mohamed Saleh Ahmed Maray, 20, and Mohamed Ibrahim Fouaad El Shenawy, 17, at an apartment building in Richmond on Sunday night. Virginia State Police and the Richmond Police helped locate the students.

"I guess they were looking to hire on with the Confederates."
I thought maybe they were visting the White House of the Confederacy or the Museum of the Confederacy. Both must-sees if visiting the Richmond area :-)

Doubt if *our side* Montana State U will do it again, but the president of Mansoura U in Egypt is sending his own two sons over here like today to two other universities.
In fact, he said he'd be here in the US today or tomorrow, I believe, in one of the stories.

GREAT! it'll be a while before we know exactly what's going on here, I expect, but check my tag and be glad it's GWB saying it...;) I hear something like 73 congress people in Brazil are ready for indictment... quite the organized gang problem they have there recently, the capital held hostage by thugs... things that makes one say "hmmmmm..."

What set of circumstances do you believe delineates the WTO thread from the illegal immigration one? I am curious. They are distinct yet related.

Decoys most likely. The problem with the decoys idea is that there's no evidence they were supposed to decoy us away from another team.
And as a result of the heightened state of alert caused by the search, and coupled with the revelations of the British terror plot, two men from Georgia (the country, not the state) were caught with a bunch of disposable cell phones and cash.

Really? Is it not a violation of our immigration laws to enter the country based on application identifying a purpose that is fraudulent?

Please, please, please do not forget Canada! Our northern border is just as porous as the southern and has the nefarious advantage of not being in the public consciousness.

You have to admire the restraint, though. It took 9 whole posts before illegal immigration came up.

i live in texas. on 9/11/01 some of my first thoughts were how middle easterners can look hispanic and no one suspects a thing. I read some ME guy, aka Ernest Lozano or something was arrested awhile back. He obviously had that same idea, too.
To: Charles H. (The_r0nin)
Usually by tomorrow (the next day after an arrest) we hear more about their location - if it was a relative, or an "old friend" from Mansoura, as several have been, or if it was an Italian restaurant chosen at random (/sarc on just that one).
It said they were found in an apartment complex, so they must have known someone. We'll hear soon, I'm sure.

It's much more convenient to get a visa and overstay, than to sneak across the border. I've read that overstaying a visa is the most common form of ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
In fact, in case you missed the story of Abdel Jabbar Hamdan, a Palestinian who has overstayed his visa by 27 years, during which time he founded a mosque in Orange County, CA, raised millions of dollars here in America which he's been sending to Hamas, here is the story:
O.C. man freed after 2 years of detention
The FBI investigated, had him incarcerated, the ACLU appealed his case and he was freed earlier this month by Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr., a Carter appointee who denied the government's motion to continue to detain Hamdan.
So, yes, overstaying visas and attempts to overstay visas (could be the case with the Egyptial students) have everything to do with illegal immigration.
