Same here. Everyone I've seen at a range ENCOURAGES women to join the shooting. Shooting is one of those sports where women can compete against men without any disadvantage.

There are a lot of women who can outshoot me without effort!

I'm really new to all things gun-related so I appreciate any tips from experienced FReeper shooters.

Thanks.

She's gonna need this advice because her father just bought a semi-auto....see my FR home page.

Thanks again.

I would recommend both of you take a Pistol Course from a Certified NRA Pistol Instructor.

You will learn proper safety handling and marksmanship instruction.

We already did that as part of the permit process here in NYS.

Thanks for the advice.

Look closer. She's got foamies in her ears. (But thats just because we just got through shooting the .357 Mag a few seconds before.)

Our range master is fairly lenient. 17 posted on 08/13/2006 1:07:24 PM MDT by Delta 21

You might want to use some eye protection as well.

If that is the case you might want to consider taking

the NRA Certified
Personal Protection in the Home and the new and soon to be released
Personal Protection outside the Home courses.

I like the profile page. What Smith is that. I just picked up a four inch 686 on Saturday. It was a little rough but one or two ours later, the finish looks nice. I'll use it for an IDPA match next Saturday. You really should watch one of those some day.

That's a 2 1/2 inch 686, my wife's first gun, on the recommendation of her father (an experienced shooter).

She loves it.

you have my sympathy.

Thank you very much for your kind words (and for reading the article, not just the title and the excerpted sentence)  :-)

I suppose I should be grateful; many of my threads get posters who don't even get further than the title   :-)

Andersen said shedding some of the misconceptions about girls and guns has been key to encouraging more women to shoot.

"A lot of people think you've got to be a rough woman to hold a gun," Andersen said. "But you can still wear pearls and shoot."

Ooh, now there's something else to practice... Being dressed up, carrying a purse and all, and taking a stand against an attack. We're not always in jeans and tennies or boots.

We had a match where we were holding a "baby". Do you keep the "baby" in your arms and have it become a target or do you slowly drop it to the ground hopefully out of harms way? I think the answer was turn away as far as possible and shoot with one hand while shielding the "baby".

No, you can't take the "baby" and beat the bad guy over the head with it.
